Chapter 294: I'm Pregnant!
Harriet's lips curved as she spoke, "Explain yourself clearly."
Elowen's tears rolled down instantly, "Lark has a crush on your husband and dreams of marrying him. Since she can't have him, she's become more obsessed."
"She came to me and asked I steal your personal belongings, saying the more you liked something, the more she wanted to get her hands on it."
"I refused, but she threatened me. If I didn't agree, she'd send people to cause trouble at my parents' restaurant and make it impossible for them to stay in business..."
"Harriet, I was really forced by her threats. That's the only reason I stole your things." Elowen's face showed disgust, "Lark insisted I steal your pretty lingerie so she could wear it and fantasize. It's really disgusting."
Harriet fell silent.
It was indeed disgusting.
No wonder she kept losing her favorite pajamas during that period. Turns out they ended up on Lark had them.
Elowen pleaded tearfully, "Harriet, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me this once!"
Harriet looked at her, "So then you stole my amulet and replaced it with a fake."
"Yes..."
Harriet smiled faintly, "You stole the amulet not just because it was something I valued, right?"
"More importantly, you knew it was something Grandma left me. You were jealous, thinking you're her only granddaughter, and wondered why she left the amulet to me instead of you, right?"
Elowen denied it flatly, "Harriet, I never thought that."
"Whether you did it or not, you know in your heart." Harriet said coldly, "Elowen, I've treated you well, yet you screwed me over like this."
"What Grandma gave me was the Romanov family's amulet, which means it originally belonged to me. Grandma was just keeping it safe. It's normal she didn't give it to you."
"Just because I told you to study hard and not to focus on marrying into a wealthy family, you started hating me. You're really some cousin."
"Harriet, I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me this once, okay?" Elowen begged, "Look, after everything, we've still become family. You're the Romanov family's daughter, and I'm carrying the Romanov family's child, who's blood-related to you. This is such an amazing connection! Harriet, help me secure my position. We can support each other in the Romanov family together, okay?"
Harriet curved her lips, "Elowen, I believe Lark made you steal my things. But you can't be completely innocent in all this either."
"Help you secure your position? Dream on."
Elowen's face went white with anger, "So even if I try to please you, you still won't help me, right?"
"Of course!" Harriet said word by word, "The day you stole my things without any remorse, I was disgusted by you. How could I possibly give you a second chance to disgust me?"
"Harriet, you're horrible!" Elowen got up, saying angrily, "I knew it, you can't stand to see me doing well! You're afraid I'll do better than you, so you want to block my happiness!"
"You're beyond saving." Harriet looked at her, "I promised Uncle Jasper I'd bring you back home safely, and I won't go back on my word. I've already arranged a flight. You're going to the airport right now."
"I'm not going!"
"That's not up to you."
Her phone suddenly rang. Harriet took it out, glanced at the screen, and answered, "Uncle Jasper... What? You're already in Pinecrest?"
Harriet instinctively looked up at Elowen in front of her.
Elowen said smugly, "I'm pregnant. It's great news. Of course my parents would come to take care of me."
Harriet had someone bring the Jasper couple to the Romanov Manor.
Xanthe looked at the luxurious estate before her, eyes shining, "Oh my god, this is something you only see on TV! If only we could stay here for one night..."
"Mom, have some ambition!" Elowen lowered her voice, "Once I marry into the Romanov family, you can live here forever!"
Xanthe said joyfully, "Really!"
"Keep your voice down, don't act like you've never seen anything, people will laugh at us!"
"Okay, Elowen, don't worry. All those shows about wealthy families I watch aren't for nothing. I definitely won't embarrass you."
Harriet went to her room to take a call. When she came out, she saw the family of three sitting on the sofa.
"Uncle Jasper," Harriet greeted him, "I called you many times last night. Turns out you were on a plane."
"Yes, Harriet, did you need me for something?"
"Yes." Harriet got straight to the point, "I'm not the Getty family's biological child. Did you know about this?"
Jasper was clearly stunned, "Harriet, I... this..."
"You knew." Looking at his reaction, Harriet had already guessed, "Why didn't you tell me?"
Elowen quickly pinched Xanthe's arm and gave her a meaningful look.
Xanthe pretended to be shocked, "What? Harriet, you're not the Getty family's biological child? How is that possible! Jasper, what's going on?"
"Harriet, you really aren't the Getty family's biological child..." Jasper hung his head, not daring to look Harriet in the eye, "When my parents brought you home back then, you were probably only a few months old."
"My sister and brother-in-law never had children. My parents originally wanted you to be their daughter."
"But unexpectedly, before you were even a year old, my sister and her husband died in a car accident."
"My brother-in-law's parents insisted you had brought bad luck that killed their son. They refused to keep raising you, so my parents brought you home, changed your surname to Getty, and raised you."
Harriet's nose tingled, "Since you knew, why didn't you tell me earlier?"
Jasper's head hung even lower, "I... I..."
"Harriet, you can't blame Jasper." Xanthe spoke up, "I bet Jasper was afraid you'd be heartbroken knowing you were abandoned, so he didn't dare tell you."
"How could Aunt Xanthe not know I was adopted?" Harriet smiled, "If I'm not mistaken, after I married into the Lancaster family, Aunt Xanthe feared that if I knew about my background, I'd ignore the Getty family and not bring you any more benefits, so you stopped Uncle Jasper from telling me, right?"
A flash of guilt crossed Xanthe's eyes, and she raised her voice in denial, "Harriet, what nonsense are you talking about! The Getty family raised you, and this is how you maliciously speculate about your elders?"
"Whether it's speculation or not, you know in your heart." Harriet helplessly pulled at the corner of her mouth, "Actually, even if you had told me the truth, I wouldn't have forgotten the Getty family's kindness in raising me, and I definitely wouldn't have abandoned you."
Elowen laughed mockingly, "If your birth family wasn't as good as the Getty family, of course you'd be willing to be part of the Getty family. But now you're the Romanov family's daughter. Would you still be willing to be a commoner?"
"What?" Xanthe was stunned, "Harriet is the Romanov family's daughter? Elowen, is that true?"
"Absolutely true."
Jasper also looked up in shock, "Harriet, you found your biological parents? That's wonderful! My heart can finally be at ease."
"That's great!" Xanthe said excitedly, "Harriet, you're the Romanov family's daughter. In the future, you and your cousin can look after each other in the Romanov family."
Harriet frowned, "Elowen deliberately became a homewrecker. Instead of properly educating her, Aunt Xanthe, you're supporting her to secure her position?"
Xanthe was momentarily speechless, but quickly said, "Elowen is pregnant now. The child is innocent and must be born. Once the child is born, it needs to grow up in a normal family, so of course Elowen should marry the child's father."
Harriet laughed coldly, "The Getty family doesn't have such shameless genes."
"What do you mean by that?" Xanthe's expression changed immediately, "The Getty family doesn't have these genes, so it must be from my Miller family?"
"Since Aunt Xanthe thinks so too, then naturally it's inherited from your genes."
Xanthe was furious, "You dare call me shameless?"
Harriet said seriously, "Grandpa and Grandma are gone, but the family's values can't disappear."
"Getty family members can be poor, but they absolutely cannot do such indecent things."
"Harriet, you're not part of the Getty family. What right do you have to set values for us!" Xanthe was livid, then suddenly thought of something, "Harriet, now you've become the Romanov family's daughter. You're not worried that if Elowen has this child, it'll compete with you for inheritance, so that's why you're targeting her, right?"
Harriet fell silent.
This was ridiculous.
With Harriet silent, Xanthe thought she'd guessed right and immediately accused. "Harriet, you're so heartless. Could you be any more selfish!"
"The Getty family worked so hard to raise you, yet you don't know how to be grateful at all!"
"Think about it - if not for the Getty family, could you have married Tristan? If not for the Getty family, could you have become Mr. Jones's student and gained such fame?"
"I am where I am today because Grandpa and Grandma raised me well. Precisely because I haven't forgotten the Getty family's upbringing, I can't accept what Elowen has done." Harriet's face was cold, "Getty family members can be poor, but they can't do such filthy and shameless things."
"Aunt Xanthe, take Elowen back home and teach her to turn a new leaf. I naturally won't abandon you. Otherwise, I'll have Tristan take back all the storefronts he gave you, and I'll stop sending you money every month."
