Chapter 293: Bring Her to Meet You
There was a sudden knock at the door, followed by a servant's voice, "Ms. Getty, Mrs. Romanov has suddenly woke up. She's very upset and keeps calling for you!"
Harriet quickly got up and followed the servant upstairs.
In the third-floor room, Sloane was curled up on the bed, hugging her knees, talking to herself with a terrified look on her face. "The child... my child is lost... baby, where are you... where are you..."
Harriet rushed over and sat down by the bed, gently holding her hand.
Sloane froze, slowly lifting her head, and when she saw Harriet, she threw her arms around her. "Baby! You scared me to death! Good baby, don't be afraid, I'll protect you..."
Harriet's eyes welled up with tears.
She hadn't understood before why Sloane always made her feel heartbroken.
It turned out that Sloane was her biological mother.
Harriet couldn't describe what she was feeling at this moment - it was a mix of everything.
She didn't want to face the truth, but seeing Sloane trembling as she held her, she couldn't help thinking that maybe the truth would be the greatest blessing for Sloane.
That night, it wasn't just Harriet who couldn't sleep well - many people in the Romanov family were also lying awake.
The next morning, when Harriet got up, she saw a young woman in the kitchen helping the servants prepare breakfast.
Coralie saw Harriet and immediately came over. "You must be Ms. Harriet Getty? Hello, I'm Coralie Walker."
Harriet thought for a moment and quickly recalled the name.
Tristan had investigated the Romanov family. This Coralie was the daughter of the Romanov family's driver. A few years ago, she had somehow ended up having a one-night stand with Caspian.
But with her background, there was no way she could marry into the Romanov family.
Later, her father found the Romanov family's lost daughter - Lark.
Her father used this opportunity to ask Mason to let his daughter marry Caspian.
The lost granddaughter was a sore spot for the Romanov family. Mason barely hesitated before agreeing immediately.
Not only that, but the driver was also promoted to butler of the Romanov family, raising his status. That was York, who had escaped from the hospital last night.
But for some reason, Caspian had been putting off marrying Coralie all these years.
"You're too kind, Ms. Walker," Harriet replied politely but distantly. "Just call me by my name."
"You're the Romanov family's daughter, I..."
"I'm not," Harriet's expression turned cold. "You can call me Ms. Getty, or you can call me Mrs. Lancaster."
Coralie nodded. "Ms. Getty, please have a seat. Breakfast will be ready soon."
Harriet went upstairs to bring Sloane down for breakfast.
While they were eating, Caspian walked into the dining room. "Mr. Lancaster, Harriet, good morning."
Harriet glanced at him and said, "I want to see Elowen."
Caspian immediately replied, "I'll bring her to see you."
"Thank you."
"Harriet, between us, we don't need to be so formal."
"We do," Harriet said flatly. "Mr. Romanov."
Caspian stood there stiffly.
"Caspian." Coralie came out of the kitchen carrying breakfast. "Let's eat."
Caspian looked at her, thinking of her fugitive father, and his expression darkened. "I'm not hungry. You all eat."
Coralie stared blankly at his retreating figure.
Caspian had always been picky about food. She had gotten up at five in the morning to prepare this breakfast.
Harriet broke the awkward silence. "The sandwiches look good. Did you make them yourself?"
Coralie snapped back to reality. "Yes."
"Mr. Romanov doesn't know what he's missing. I'll eat them."
"Great." Coralie happily placed the sandwiches in front of her. "I just hope they're to your taste."
Harriet picked one up and tried it. "These sandwiches are so fancy. They must have taken a lot of work."
"Caspian loves them, so I make them often."
"They're delicious."
"Thank you, please have more." Coralie said, "I don't have many talents, but my cooking is pretty good, especially breakfast. You can tell me what you like to eat."
"You're the future wife of the Romanov family heir. Cooking shouldn't really be your job, should it?"
"Caspian is pretty particular about daily life. I usually handle his food and other things personally. I'm used to it."
After Tristan finished eating, he went back to his room to work.
Harriet continued chatting with Coralie. "Your father was injured because my husband shot him. He was caught in the crossfire. I'll compensate you both."
York had served the tea at the time, so Tristan naturally went after him first.
But York wasn't the one who poisoned it.
Harriet naturally expressed her apology.
"About my dad getting shot, Ollie already explained it to me, and the Romanov family has already compensated my father, so I won't take your compensation." Coralie said, "Ms. Getty, Caspian says my dad worked with Lark to deceive the Romanov family. There must be some misunderstanding. My dad isn't that kind of person. When we find him, I'll get to the bottom of it and give you an explanation."
"Okay."
An hour later, Elowen was brought to Romanov Manor again.
As soon as she saw Harriet, she said impatiently, "Are you ever going to stop! I said I'm not going back to Emberfall. Don't you understand plain English?"
Harriet sat on the sofa, looking at her coldly. "My amulet - you switched it, didn't you?"
Elowen froze, then quickly reacted. "What are you talking about! What amulet? I don't know anything!"
Harriet analyzed, "You were the only one who stayed at my house back then. The amulet my grandmother gave me was in the drawer of my vanity, and I didn't guard against you, so I didn't lock it."
"When you went into my closet to steal things, you naturally would have gone through my drawers too. You couldn't have missed my amulet."
"You stayed at my house for so many days. Switching it would have been easy."
"I just don't know anything about these things, so I couldn't tell the amulet had been switched."
"Elowen, why did you steal my amulet? And how did that amulet end up on Lark!"
Elowen sat right down on the sofa. "This is ridiculous. You have so many designer watches in your closet. Any one of them is worth more than an ordinary person could earn in a lifetime. How much is an amulet worth? Why would I steal it? Go ahead and blame me for anything else you've lost."
"You still dare to deny it?" Harriet said coldly, "The Romanov family has already done a DNA test. I'm Caspian's real sister."
"The Romanov family's amulet was in his real sister's hands, which means the amulet Lark used to be recognized by the Romanov family was originally mine. Besides you, who else would steal the amulet and give it to Lark!"
"You're the Romanov family's daughter?" Elowen pretended to be shocked. "How is that possible? You're clearly my aunt's daughter!"
"Still pretending?" Harriet nodded. "Fine, I'll have someone take you to the police station for a lie detector test right now. Then we'll know if you're lying! Someone!"
Just as the guards stepped forward, Elowen glared at them. "Don't you dare touch me!"
Elowen gently stroked her belly. "I'm pregnant, carrying the Romanov family's child. It's precious! If anything happens, can you handle the consequences!"
Harriet was speechless. "Being a mistress carrying an illegitimate child - you think that's something to be proud of?"
Elowen said proudly, "Of course being a mother is something to be proud of. My love and I truly love each other. My child is his precious treasure, the pride and joy of the Romanov family. Of course I'm proud!"
"Even if you're carrying a prince, you still need to explain everything today." Harriet said coldly. "Are you going to talk here, or at the police station?"
Elowen lifted her chin. "I just won't talk. What can you do to me!"
Harriet smiled. "Do you really think that just because you're pregnant, the Romanov family will value you?"
"Elowen, my identity has been confirmed. If you want a place in the Romanov family, shouldn't you be on good terms with me?"
Elowen looked hesitant.
Harriet continued, "Even if I weren't the Romanov family's daughter, I'm still Tristan's wife, the boss's wife of Apex Global Group. Are you sure you want to go against me?"
"If I wanted to deal with you, would the Romanov family protect a mistress with all their might? I'm afraid they'd hand you over to me themselves to show their sincerity."
Elowen's hands gripped her clothes tightly. The next second, she dropped to her knees in front of Harriet. "Harriet, I didn't mean to! Lark threatened me to steal your things!"
