Chapter 236 Want To Get Closer To Her
Tristan said calmly, "I just asked if Harriet was safe. I didn't ask you to report her whereabouts."
"I misunderstood." The bodyguard quickly said, "She's quite safe. When there's nothing going on, Mrs. Lancaster stays at the hotel. Oh, and it seems Mrs. Lancaster is attending a dinner party tonight."
"Got it. Protect her well and remind her not to drink."
"Yes."
In the room, Harriet and Niamh were both trying on clothes.
"Harriet, you look so beautiful. Beautiful and slim people really do look good in anything."
"Does it look that good?" Harriet looked at herself in the mirror. "Then I'll change into something more low-key."
"Why change? This one looks great."
"I don't want to attract any weird attention." Harriet held a dress up against Niamh. "You, on the other hand, could dress up more stunningly. It'd be easier to find someone."
"I don't want to marry a foreigner!"
"I heard quite a few Athenia people will be there tonight, not all foreigners."
"Still no. I want to settle down in Emberfall."
"Okay, I'll stay with you."
Niamh hugged her affectionately. "Harriet, you're the best."
"Stop it, let's change."
At seven in the evening, they arrived at the hotel ballroom right on time.
The moment Harriet appeared, she immediately became the center of attention.
Most people didn't know who she was, they were simply captivated by her stunning beauty.
Harriet grabbed a drink and some cake and found the most secluded corner to sit in.
Niamh's eyes lit up. "Harriet, my favorite international movie star is over there! I'm going to get a photo."
"Go ahead, be careful and don't wander off."
"Don't worry."
Harriet took a bite of the cake. It tasted quite good.
"Does Ms. Getty like sweets?"
A magnetic, pleasant voice suddenly came from behind her.
Harriet turned her head and saw Caspian walking toward her.
"Mr. Romanov." Harriet greeted him. "What are you doing here?"
"Mr. Oliver Churchill invited me." Caspian asked politely, "May I sit here?" Oliver Churchill was the organizer of this party.
"Of course, this is a public place."
Caspian sat down across from her. "After coming back, I asked around and found out it was Mr. Churchill who helped you. Does Tristan know you asked your admirer to help rescue his mother?"
"He doesn't need to know."
"True, that kind of thing probably wouldn't be easy for him to accept, right?"
"My husband isn't that petty. After all, Mr. Churchill and I haven't had any inappropriate contact." Harriet smiled calmly. "It's a fact that I saved Mr. Churchill's niece, and he once said that whenever I needed help, I could ask. I don't like owing people favors, so when he helped me, I agreed to be his family's personal doctor for a year as repayment. That's why I'm here this time—making a house call."
Caspian took a sip of red wine. "Mr. Churchill has always had high standards. No socialite has ever caught his eye. You're the first."
"That's kind of him, or maybe he just hasn't interacted much with Athenia girls and finds it fresh." Harriet smiled. "I rejected him directly from the start and told him I was married."
"I really admire you, Ms. Getty." Caspian didn't hide his appreciation. "After all, someone with Mr. Churchill's status isn't easy to connect with, but you turned him down without hesitation."
"I'm just an ordinary person who wants to live an ordinary, peaceful life."
"You're being modest, Ms. Getty. You're anything but ordinary." Caspian said, "I wonder if Ms. Getty, after finishing your house call work here, would you have time to come with me to the Romanov family? My grandfather is getting old and needs a capable family doctor."
Harriet took a sip of the sweet and sour orange juice and smiled. "If it weren't for Lark, I'd definitely take that money. But Mr. Romanov, you don't really think I'm naive enough to believe that right after we were fighting to the death, we could just let bygones be bygones?"
"I expected you wouldn't agree." Caspian smiled. "Actually, I had people investigate Lark thoroughly in Emberfall. She really was awful."
"Plus, she hasn't been back with the Romanov family for long. I never had deep feelings for her."
"The person with the deepest feelings for her is my grandfather. He can't accept that his granddaughter, who he got back after losing her, just died like that. He completely broke down and still can't get out of bed."
Harriet asked, "Have you told him about Lark's true nature?"
"I wouldn't dare tell him these things."
Harriet said, "From a doctor's perspective, he's overwhelmed with grief and anger. He needs to let those emotions out. The most direct approach would be to tell him everything about Lark honestly. Only by letting him know that Lark's death wasn't unjust can he slowly move on."
"But what if he can't handle it?" Caspian said carefully. "He's old. I absolutely can't take that risk."
"I'm just offering my advice as a doctor for your reference."
Caspian looked at her. "Would it be okay to add you on WhatsApp? Maybe there really will be a day when I need Ms. Getty's help."
Harriet smiled. "My medical skills are mediocre. Even Dr. Smith wouldn't take me as a student. Mr. Romanov has such a wide network—you won't need my help. So let's skip the WhatsApp."
Caspian was taken aback. "Ms. Getty, please don't misunderstand. I'm not trying to hit on you."
He was disciplined and never indulged in women. Even the most beautiful women rarely caught his eye.
But for some reason, the first time he saw Harriet, he was drawn to her.
Later, back at the hotel, he even mocked himself about it.
So it was true that everyone appreciates beauty.
But he was clear that what he felt for Harriet wasn't the typical attraction between a man and a woman.
There seemed to be some special force about Harriet that drew him in.
Just now, even though she was sitting in such a remote corner, he inexplicably looked in her direction and then walked over as if possessed.
Caspian didn't know why he was acting so strangely.
By all rights, he should hate Harriet.
Yes, his own sister died at her hands. He should hate her.
But after seeing her that day, he knew clearly that he couldn't bring himself to hate her.
Not only couldn't he hate her, he even... wanted to get closer to her.
He thought he must be crazy.
"Harriet, look! I got a photo with my idol!"
An excited voice interrupted Caspian's wandering thoughts.
Niamh hadn't met Caspian before and immediately put away her excitement to ask, "Harriet, who's this?"
Harriet introduced him. "The heir of the Romanov family, Mr. Caspian Romanov."
"The Romanov family..." It took Niamh a while to react. She quickly moved to shield Harriet, looking warily at the handsome man across from them. "What do you want? To get revenge for Lark?"
"Niamh, don't get worked up." Harriet explained, "Mr. Romanov just came over to say hello."
"He can't be up to anything good." Niamh looked at him with disdain. "Lark was no good, and her family can't be much better! I'm warning you, stay away from our Harriet!"
"That's enough." Harriet pulled Niamh's hand and sat her down. "Mr. Romanov really doesn't mean any harm. Don't be angry."
Niamh pursed her lips. "I feel sick seeing anyone connected to Lark!"
Her phone suddenly rang. Harriet took it out of her clutch and stood up to answer it off to the side. "Ryder, what's wrong?"
"Mrs. Lancaster, something's happened!"
