Chapter 228 I Dare to Kiss You
On the couch, Quinlan was sitting unusually close to Tristan.
From Harriet's angle, the two of them looked like they were kissing.
Harriet's hand on the doorknob trembled suddenly!
Her mind went blank for a few seconds, then a familiar scene flashed through her head.
A long time ago, when she went to Opulence Club to find Tristan, she had seen this exact scene, except back then it was Lark.
That time, she thought they were really kissing and turned around and left.
But this time, Harriet opened the door directly and walked right in.
From a different angle, Quinlan was just very close to Tristan, holding a towel and wiping his face.
Harriet crossed her arms and looked at her coolly, "It's this late, and Ms. Stewart still hasn't left work?"
Seeing Harriet come in, Quinlan remained composed, "I came to report work to Tristan. He drank too much, so I'm taking care of him."
"What work needs to be reported after 2 AM?"
"Confidential work matters. I can't tell you." Quinlan smiled, "But thanks to you, Apex Global Group's workload has increased quite a bit lately. We work overtime until late almost every night, and people are complaining."
"And you, Harriet, can easily hide here and be Mrs. Lancaster. Honestly, I really envy you."
"Of course you envy me." Harriet's expression didn't change, "After all, you and Lark are cut from the same cloth."
Quinlan's face changed, "Harriet, watch your mouth!"
"Getting angry already?" Harriet raised an eyebrow, "Looks like I hit a nerve."
Harriet walked forward, took the towel from her hand, and tossed it into a nearby trash can, "Quinlan, I suggest you learn some boundaries, or else I'll send you back to wherever you came from."
Quinlan stood up and looked at her coldly, "Harriet, who do you think you are to say such things?"
"I'm the boss's wife of Apex Global Group. Transferring an employee out of Emberfall isn't exactly difficult, is it?"
Quinlan pressed her lips together tightly, "My aunt won't allow it."
"You mean my mother-in-law with questionable judgment?" Harriet laughed lightly, "Go ask her when I've ever followed her orders."
"Harriet, I'm a veteran of Apex Global Group. If you dare touch me, aren't you afraid people will lose heart and Tristan will be criticized?"
Harriet smiled, "Didn't you just say that because of me, people have to work overtime and are complaining about it? Since everyone's already so unhappy with me as the boss's wife, a little more criticism doesn't matter to me."
Quinlan was too angry to speak.
She quickly calmed down and forced a smile, "Harriet, I think there's been some misunderstanding between us."
"You really know how to judge the situation." Harriet laughed lightly, "Then you better be careful from now on not to do anything else that might make me misunderstand."
"I understand." Quinlan's smile was extremely stiff, "I'll be more careful about boundaries in the future."
"Good. It's late, you should go home and rest."
"Yes."
After Quinlan left, Harriet sat down next to Tristan.
He seemed exhausted, leaning back on the couch, sound asleep.
Harriet helped him lie down flat, went to get a blanket and covered him with it.
The night was already very late.
After turning off the lights, the moonlight from the floor-to-ceiling windows outlined the room's general shape.
After being busy all evening, Harriet was also exhausted. She curled up on the couch nearby and fell into a deep sleep.
When she woke up again, Harriet felt herself lifted into the air, falling into a warm embrace.
Harriet groggily opened her eyes to see a perfectly handsome face.
"Tristan." Harriet raised her hand to hook around his neck, "Is it morning already?"
"It's just after five. I'm carrying you back to bed."
Tristan carried her to the rest room and placed her on the soft bed.
Seeing him about to leave, Harriet quickly grabbed his hand, "Where are you going?"
"To take a shower."
Only then did Harriet let go.
Soon the sound of running water came from the bathroom, but Harriet suddenly couldn't sleep anymore. She hugged the blanket, lost in thought.
Before long, Tristan came out of the bathroom and lay down beside her.
"Why aren't you sleeping yet?"
"Tristan, you shouldn't have gone after Lark." Harriet looked at him, "I can handle the consequences of my own actions."
"I promised you I would personally handle Lark's matter. I won't go back on my word." Tristan kissed her forehead, "Harriet, promise me, no matter what happens in the future, you won't use the same solution as last night, okay?"
"Did you find out who leaked mine and Dr. Smith's location before?"
"No."
"Then I don't think what I did last night was wrong." Harriet said seriously, "I can't gamble with people's lives."
Tristan was silent for a moment, then said, "The people protecting you were all personally selected by me. They would die for you."
"Even though I trust them, I still investigated thoroughly. I really didn't find anything suspicious."
Tristan gently stroked her beautiful face, "What happened yesterday is over. Let's not talk about it anymore."
"Promise me you'll have less contact with Nolan from now on, okay?"
"I didn't expect Lark to make a move through him." Harriet said honestly, "He called to apologize, saying that because he used to like me, he did use some underhanded tactics, trying to use Lark to break us up."
"I was shocked at the time. Your judgment of people is indeed better than mine. You had good reason not to like him."
"But it was a matter of life and death. I had no choice but to cooperate with him first to rescue his in-laws."
"But don't worry, I'll keep my distance from him."
Tristan gazed at her, "Harriet, we're husband and wife, the closest people in the world to each other. From now on, no matter what happens, we face it together. I don't want you to push me away, and I'm not afraid of being dragged down by you."
Harriet smiled brightly, "Mr. Lancaster is all-powerful and fears nothing."
"Who said that? I get scared too."
"Really?" Harriet was curious, "What are you afraid of?"
Tristan looked deeply into her eyes, "I'm afraid you don't love me."
Harriet's heart stirred.
Like a breeze sweeping across a calm lake, creating ripples.
Harriet could hear her own rapidly accelerating heartbeat.
She lifted her head and kissed Tristan's lips directly.
The suppressed desire was instantly ignited by this kiss.
It had been over a month since Harriet went to the hot spring villa for treatment, and they hadn't made love at all during that time.
How could Tristan resist her taking the initiative like this? He rolled over to pin her down, deepening the kiss while his hand explored under her clothes.
Suddenly, as if remembering something, he stopped what he was doing and asked, "Did Dr. Smith say we could make love during your treatment period?"
Harriet's face flushed slightly, "Would I dare kiss you if it wasn't okay?"
"True." Tristan chuckled and kissed her lips again.
