Chapter 216: Medication for Assisted Pregnancy
Rhea brought in the medicine and asked, "Mrs. Lancaster, why didn't you even turn on the lights?"
"It's nothing."
"Mrs. Lancaster, please don't be upset." Rhea walked over to Harriet's side in the moonlight and comforted her, "Mr. Lancaster is a germaphobe. How could he possibly touch Lark? Besides, you know how deeply Mr. Lancaster loves you."
"It's precisely because he loves me that he would want to cure me at any cost." Harriet continued observing through the telescope. "Many times, love becomes a person's weakness."
"Mr. Lancaster knows where your boundaries are, and aren't you also his boundary?" Rhea said with certainty. "So I believe Mr. Lancaster won't make any mistakes."
"I hope so." The light visible through the telescope had gone out. Harriet put away the telescope. "Arrange for two bodyguards to watch Tristan. I want to know his every move, especially if he meets with Lark. You must let me know immediately. If he really loses his mind and agrees to Lark's demands, I definitely won't allow it."
"Alright." Rhea felt relieved.
Because Harriet finally knew to fight for herself and protect her marriage.
Early the next morning, Harriet left for work on time.
"Good morning, Mrs. Lancaster." A bodyguard came forward. "Mr. Lancaster has instructed that given the special circumstances, to prevent Lark from causing trouble, you must have people with you when you go out, and there will also be people at the clinic to protect you."
Harriet nodded. "Thank you for your hard work. I'll pay you all a bonus separately."
"You're too kind. This is what we should do."
Harriet arrived at the clinic. Ian knocked and came in. "Harriet, I tried to find Dr. Smith early this morning, but Lark's people stopped me. Dr. Smith must be under house arrest."
Harriet wasn't surprised. "Lark is trying to use Dr. Smith to threaten Tristan, so naturally she has to keep her confined. But Lark probably won't harm Dr. Smith. You don't need to worry too much."
"You don't understand. The reason Dr. Smith went into hiding and didn't let people find her is because her medical skills are too good. So many people want to control her. If she fell into good people's hands, that would be one thing, but falling into the hands of someone like Lark—how can I not worry?"
Harriet said, "Mr. Jones, let's think of a way to rescue Dr. Smith from Lark and set her free."
"Exactly, but now that Lark has become a young lady of the Romanov family, she's not to be underestimated. We must plan this carefully."
"I understand."
In the afternoon, just as Harriet was about to go out for a house call, she saw Tristan's car parked in front of the clinic.
The car door opened. Tristan got out from the back seat and walked up to her. "Are you still angry?"
"Shouldn't I be angry?" Harriet looked at him. "Did you come to find me because you've changed your mind?"
"Harriet, I have no choice." Tristan said helplessly, "If Lark wanted money, I could give her everything I have, but she doesn't need money now."
"She's obsessed with me, you know that. A person's obsession is very hard to eliminate. Unless she gets what she wants, she won't hand over Dr. Smith to treat you and my mother."
"Then let's get divorced." Harriet said coldly. "After the divorce, I won't care how you touch her. You can use your body to show your filial piety all you want. As for my condition, it doesn't need treatment."
"You know I won't divorce you." Tristan gripped her shoulders. "Just one night, Harriet. You'll forget about this after you sleep. Once we cure your condition, we can have children. Our life will get better and better."
"Don't touch me!" Harriet raised her hand and pushed him away forcefully. "Tristan, you really disgust me!"
"Harriet, do you have to make such a scene?" Tristan's face turned cold. "Aren't I doing this for you, for our family?"
"Why do you all always have to force your self-righteous wishes on me?" Harriet smiled bitterly. "Griffin went to kill Lark, saying it was to avenge me. You want to sleep with Lark, saying it's to cure my illness."
"But I don't need it! Just consider it me begging you—stop saying it's for me!" Harriet closed her eyes, suppressing the pain in them. "Tristan, maybe I shouldn't have come back, or rather, we shouldn't have gotten back together."
"Harriet, you're my wife. You should understand me, not say these things." Tristan looked at her. "Even if your condition doesn't need treatment, my mother must be treated. She gave birth to me and raised me. Even if you don't like her, she's still my closest family."
Harriet nodded, suddenly becoming calm. "I understand, Tristan. Living in this world, people do face many situations beyond their control. I won't force you, because this world doesn't revolve around me alone."
"I'll have Finnegan prepare the divorce papers. Whenever you have time, we'll go through the divorce procedures."
"I have things to do. I'm leaving now."
Harriet left directly, but she hadn't walked more than a few steps before tears were streaming down her face.
In the presidential suite at Golden Ember Hotel.
Lark leaned back lazily in her chair, watching videos sent by her people, a smile appearing on her face.
Butler York said from the side, "Ms. Brown, they parted on bad terms."
"Harriet has always been pretentious. How could she possibly let Tristan sleep with me?" Lark sneered. "But this time, she can't stop me."
"Actually, you're a young lady of the Romanov family. What kind of man can't you get? There's no need to hang yourself on one tree."
"You don't understand. Tristan is my dream. Some dreams, if they don't come true, you've lived this life in vain. So I must have him, even if it's just for one night."
"These days happen to be my ovulation period. Maybe I can get pregnant with his child in one go."
"If I really have Tristan's child, I'll have no regrets in this life." The more Lark thought about it, the more excited she became. "Go quickly and have Dr. Smith prepare some fertility medicine for me. With her help, I'm sure to get what I want!"
"Alright."
"Also, keep watching Tristan and Harriet's every move. We absolutely can't have any accidents."
"I understand." York said, "But Ms. Brown, if you want to sleep with Tristan, you'll definitely need to be alone with him. What if he takes you hostage and demands I hand over Dr. Smith? What should we do?"
"I've already thought about this problem. For safety's sake, I'll ask him to come here, and I'll arrange more bodyguards to guard outside the door." Lark said, "After all, I saved his life. He wouldn't actually kill his savior with his own hands, would he? If he dares to touch a hair on my head, the Romanov family won't let him off. He's extremely smart, so naturally he can weigh the consequences."
"That's good then."
In the blink of an eye, the agreed-upon day arrived.
Lark also took the room on the floor below for use. She changed early into a sexy nightgown, put on exquisite makeup, prepared red wine, and waited in the room.
"Ms. Brown." York knocked and came in to report. "Tristan is already on his way here. Harriet just went to a bar. It looks like she's going to get drunk."
Lark swirled the wine glass in her hand and chuckled. "I want her to experience what it feels like to be powerless."
"Harriet, the despair and pain I once felt—now it's your turn to taste it."
York said, "Since you hate Harriet so much, why not just kill her and be done with it?"
"If she dies, wouldn't she be free?" Lark took a light sip of red wine. "It's more fun when she's alive, especially making her live a life worse than death."
Half an hour later, Tristan arrived at Golden Ember Hotel.
York quickly withdrew. As he passed by Tristan, he didn't forget to remind him, "Mr. Lancaster, Ms. Brown is the precious daughter of the Romanov family. If you dare to touch a hair on her head, the Romanov family will absolutely not let you off."
The door was quickly closed. Lark poured two glasses of red wine and walked barefoot toward Tristan, handing him a glass. "Tristan, you're finally here. I've been waiting for this day for a long time."
