Chapter 203: You Are Shy

Chapter 203 You Are Shy

Harriet was curious, "Didn't I say I was in my safe period?"

"I checked. There's no such thing as absolutely safe. If you got pregnant, you'd have to suffer again."

Harriet didn't say anything more and took the contraceptive pill right away.

"I'm sorry." Tristan held her hand. "Taking pills harms your body. I'll handle contraception from now on."

Harriet's lips curved slightly. "I should be the one saying sorry. Tristan, I can't give you children."

"Before, we didn't have children, weren't we happy?" Tristan stroked her hair. "Harriet, I want you, not children."

After learning about her condition, Harriet had thought about the issue of children too.

She liked children and really wanted her own.

In the past, after finding out she might never be able to have children, she probably wouldn't have been able to accept it.

But over these two years, she'd been through a lot and had become stronger inside.

She wouldn't force it.

Having children would be a blessing from above.

Without children, she could still live happily without regrets.

For now, it seemed she and Tristan could reach an agreement on this.

"Let's go see Grandma tomorrow," Harriet said softly. "We should tell her about not being able to have children, so she doesn't get her hopes up."

"Okay."

That evening, Tristan stayed at Lakeside Gardens.

They didn't do anything, just slept in each other's arms.

The next day they slept in, then went to the Lancaster Manor to have lunch with Haven.

Haven cried tears of joy. "Seeing you two back together makes me so happy."

"Grandma, there's something I need to tell you..."

Harriet honestly explained her physical condition.

Haven was shocked after hearing it. "So back then, Tristan insisted on terminating the pregnancy to protect you."

"Grandma, I'm sorry." Harriet lowered her eyes. "I might never be able to have children."

"Harriet, there's nothing to be sorry about." Haven held her hand. "Of course your own health is more important. To live, you must first love yourself."

Harriet nodded. "Yes, but Grandma, the great-grandchild you wanted..."

"Harriet." Haven interrupted her. "At my age, if I were still hung up on this, I would have lived in vain."

"Don't bring this up again, and don't feel guilty. Having children is a right given to women by the Creator, not an obligation. You have no obligation to have children for your husband and his family, understand?"

Harriet's eyes welled up. "Thank you, Grandma."

In the afternoon, Tristan went to work at Apex Global Group.

Harriet still had work to do, so she returned to Lakeside Gardens.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw two men dressed like bodyguards moving things out of Griffin's place.

"Ms. Getty."The bodyguards recognized Harriet and nodded respectfully. "Mr. Wallace asked us to move his things."

Harriet looked at the two suitcases beside them. "That's all you're moving?"

"Ms. Getty, this is all of Mr. Wallace's belongings."

"So little?"

"Yes, Mr. Wallace doesn't have much stuff. It's like he never planned to live here long-term."

Harriet frowned slightly, lost in thought.

She had just gotten home when the doorbell rang.

It was Niamh, asking anxiously, "Harriet, what happened between you and Griffin? Why is he suddenly moving?"

Harriet let her in. "Nothing much, just not suitable to be neighbors anymore."

"What?" Niamh was confused. "These two years, the three of us got along great. How are we suddenly not suitable to be neighbors? He even said he's giving me the place to live in."

"It's good if you live here. We can look out for each other." Harriet said, "I'm making dinner. Stay and eat with us. What do you want?"

"I'm easy about food, just make whatever."

"Tristan's coming too, so I'll just make something."

Niamh suddenly realized, "Griffin moving out wouldn't have something to do with Tristan, would it? Why would Tristan come here for dinner? You two didn't get back together, did you? Harriet, have you forgotten how he hurt you back then!"

Harriet explained everything that had happened.

Niamh was speechless for a while. "So Griffin really does like you."

"What did you say?" Harriet frowned. "You knew already? Why didn't you tell me?"

"I was just guessing, but he never made any moves, so it wasn't right for me to interfere in your business," Niamh explained.

Harriet had no reason to blame Niamh. If anyone was to blame, it was herself for trusting surface appearances too much.

Niamh pressed on, "So, Harriet, you're saying Griffin not only likes you, but also wrote some weird diary, and this diary accidentally fell into Tristan's hands, and he misunderstood that you and Griffin had feelings for each other?"

"Yes."

"Griffin hid it way too well," Niamh said, "But Harriet, there's nothing wrong with him liking you. You're pretty with a good personality. You've always been popular since childhood."

"But his feelings brought me harm," Harriet said seriously. "He made things up in his diary, saying my damaged body was from saving him. Do you know how much that hurt Tristan? These two years, Griffin clearly knew what was causing me and Tristan pain, but for his own selfish reasons he didn't say anything. Isn't that a kind of deception too? I can't handle that kind of affection."

"That's true." Niamh's mind was a bit confused. "Harriet, don't think about it too much. The misunderstanding is cleared up now, that's what matters."

"Yes, at least I found out before it was too late."

Taking advantage of the free time, Niamh decided to move right away.

Harriet went to the supermarket to buy groceries, and when she got home, she got busy in the kitchen.

She was preparing food when Tristan suddenly hugged her from behind.

Harriet felt the warmth from his body and felt strangely at peace."Why are you back so early?"

"I finished my work and came back early to be with you." Tristan kissed her cheek. "Why are you cooking? Where's Rhea?"

"Rhea worked hard taking care of me recently. I gave her a few days off to rest and spend time with her family." Harriet's lips curved. "Plus you haven't had my cooking in a long time."

"True, it has been a while." Tristan asked, "I heard Griffin moved out from next door. What happened?"

"You're not happy he moved out?" Harriet answered with a question.

"I'm happy." Tristan admitted frankly. "But Harriet, what makes me happiest is that we finally got back together."

Harriet's hands paused while picking vegetables.

"What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"

Harriet's eyes felt sore and wet.

She turned around and looked at Tristan in front of her. "That night, when you said you loved me, was it true?"

Even though she knew without him saying it, she still wanted to hear him say those words.

Tristan cleared his throat lightly, and his handsome face actually turned red.

Harriet felt novel. "Mr. Lancaster, are you blushing?"

"Who said that?" Tristan denied it. "Yes, Harriet, I admit it. You succeeded."

Harriet looked confused. "What?"

"You're a good teacher. You successfully taught me how to love someone."
