Chapter 197 I Go to Find Him
Tristan kept watch outside for two days straight without rest.
He didn't believe in God, but during those two days, he donated hundreds of millions of dollars to various churches in Emberfall.
He wanted to go kneel and beg God to show mercy and keep Harriet alive, but he was afraid of missing her final moments, so he never dared to leave.
With just two hours left before the 48-hour mark the doctor mentioned, Harriet finally woke up!
The doctor said Harriet was lucky. Niamh cried and wanted to go to church to thank God.
As for Tristan, after confirming that Harriet had survived this close call, a smile finally appeared on his exhausted face. The next second, he collapsed to the ground...
Two days later, Harriet was moved to a regular hospital room.
Though she was still very weak, she could talk and eat liquid food.
After Niamh fed her a bowl of porridge, Harriet looked eagerly at Ian beside her. "Mr. Jones, where's Tristan? Why hasn't Tristan come to see me?"
Ian was slightly stunned.
After Tristan collapsed, he slept for a whole day and night before waking up.
The first thing he did after waking was call Ian.
When Ian saw Tristan, his voice was extremely hoarse.
"Don't tell Harriet I came to the hospital." Lying in the hospital bed, Tristan looked pale, completely broken. "I'll divorce her and set her free. From now on, I won't drag her down anymore..."
Ian wanted to say something but stopped himself, finally just letting out a long sigh. "Alright."
"Mr. Jones?" Seeing Ian didn't answer, Harriet spoke again. "What's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Harriet." Ian collected himself and said, "I don't know. These days I've been either at the clinic or visiting you. I haven't had time to check on Mr. Lancaster."
Harriet said nothing. "Where's my phone?"
"Your phone broke in the accident. I'll have Niamh get you a new one."
"Then can I borrow your phone? I want to call Tristan."
Ian unlocked his phone and handed it to her.
Harriet dialed Tristan's number.
After a long while, the call was answered, and Tristan's cool, detached voice came through. "What is it?"
"Tristan, it's me."
Tristan on the other end held his breath for a moment, then spoke in a flat tone. "Do you need something?"
"Where are you? Can you come see me?"
"I'm abroad on business. I won't be back that soon."
Harriet's hand gripped the blanket tightly.
It seemed he didn't know about her car accident.
Harriet lowered her eyes. "Then when you come back, can you let me know right away?"
"We'll see. I'm very busy. Anything else?"
"...No."
Tristan hung up directly.
Harriet was slightly stunned.
But she quickly remembered that their last meeting had ended badly.
And she was the one who rejected him.
It was normal for Tristan to be angry.
Once she recovered and he returned from abroad, they could meet and clear things up.
That afternoon, Griffin came to the ward carrying flowers and fruit.
"Harriet, how are you feeling today?"
"I'm much better."
Niamh sensed the awkward atmosphere between them and tactfully left. "Harriet, I'll go buy you a phone. You two take your time talking."
Griffin sat down in the chair beside the bed, looking at Harriet. "Are you still mad at me?"
"The Lancaster Group must be pretty busy, right?" Harriet said coolly. "You should focus on your work. Mr. Jones, Niamh and Rhea will take care of me. You don't need to keep coming here."
Griffin frowned. "Harriet, do we really have to be like this? You're one of the few people in this world I care about most."
"Do you really see me as family?" Harriet finally turned to look at him. "Griffin, I'm married. Keeping distance from someone of the opposite sex who likes me is basic. From the day I found out you had feelings for me that you shouldn't have, we could never interact like we used to. I have to be responsible to my marriage and my husband."
Griffin closed his eyes. "Harriet, I do like you, but I've never bothered you or hurt you."
"You knew there was a misunderstanding between Tristan and me, but you deliberately hid it. Isn't that hurting me?" Harriet frowned. "You know I hate being deceived, especially by the people closest to me. Of course, everyone is selfish, and it's normal for you to have selfish motives, but I really can't accept your selfishness. Please leave."
Griffin wanted to say something but stopped himself, finally getting up to leave.
"Harriet." At the door, Griffin suddenly stopped. "One day, you'll understand and forgive me."
Harriet said nothing.
Niamh soon returned with a phone. After inserting the SIM card and syncing the cloud, it was ready to use.
Harriet picked up the phone, wanting to message Tristan on WhatsApp, but after typing for a while, she deleted it word by word.
Some things were better said in person.
The next day, Haven rushed to the hospital.
Seeing Harriet, Haven cried with distress. "How did you get hurt so badly? Opal is terrible!"
"Grandma, I'm fine. Don't worry."
"You call this fine? It's all Griffin and Rhea's fault. If I hadn't pressed them, they would have kept it from me."
"I told them not to tell you. I just didn't want you to worry."
"You focus on recovering." Haven remembered something, and her expression darkened. "Tristan actually went abroad at a time like this. I'm calling him to come back right now!"
"Grandma!" Harriet quickly stopped her. "His work is important, and I'm already fine. Let's not call him and make him worry."
Haven asked tentatively, "You're still mad at him, aren't you?"
Harriet shook her head gently. "Grandma, when he comes back from his business trip, I'll go find him."
"Good." Haven couldn't be happier. "I won't interfere with you two, but I'm still very happy to hear you say that. Have Rhea take good care of you. I'll come see you again another day."
"Okay."
A few days later, abroad.
Tristan stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the foreign night scene.
"Mr. Lancaster." Ryder came in to report. "Opal escaped."
Tristan showed no expression. "What happened?"
"The detention center guards are very strict, so she couldn't escape from there. She hurt herself, banged her head against the wall until it bled. She escaped from the hospital."
Tristan frowned. "She'll definitely go after Harriet. Arrange security at the hospital to protect her."
"Yes." Ryder nodded. "Also, I've investigated. Ever since Opal found out Mrs. Lancaster returned to the country, she's had her nephew Upton arrange people to secretly follow Mrs. Lancaster."
"On the day of the incident, Upton personally watched Mrs. Lancaster while his subordinate drove. The two followed Mrs. Lancaster the whole time, reporting her location to Opal, which gave Opal the chance to attack Mrs. Lancaster."
"Opal is already a lost cause, yet the Campbell family still dares to help her do evil?"
Ryder hesitated. "It's no secret that Mrs. Lancaster was abroad for two years. Anyone could find out that you and she have been separated for years. The Campbell family naturally assumed you wouldn't protect Mrs. Lancaster, so they went ahead with their revenge."
Tristan closed his eyes, hiding the regret in them. "Teach the Campbell family a good lesson. Don't leave any loose ends. Also, spread the word secretly that even if Harriet and I divorce, I'll still protect her. I'd like to see who still has the guts to touch a hair on her head!"
"Understood."
Harriet stayed in the hospital for a month before she could finally be discharged.
She felt liberated.
If she stayed any longer, she'd really go crazy.
Although Niamh and Rhea took good care of her, after recovering from such serious injuries, she had lost a lot of weight.
Harriet woke from her afternoon nap in the evening.
After dinner, she called Tristan, but no one answered.
Harriet then called Ryder, who answered quickly. "Mrs. Lancaster, you're looking for me?"
"Ryder, has Tristan come back from his business trip abroad?"
"He's back. He just returned today. He should be landing and heading back to Cloud Bay now."
Harriet was delighted. "I see, thank you."
"You're welcome."
Seeing Harriet change clothes, Rhea quickly asked, "Mrs. Lancaster, are you going out?"
"I'm going to Cloud Bay to find Tristan."
"I'm not comfortable with you going out alone. Let me come with you."
"Alright."
