Chapter 134 I Love Him Very Much
Harriet flinched in fear, staring blankly at Tristan.
"Harriet, I really underestimated you." Tristan's dark, sharp eyes locked onto her face as he warned her word by word, "Listen carefully. You're Mrs. Lancaster now. If I ever see you hugging and holding another man like that again, I will kill him!"
Harriet was about to speak when she saw Tristan turn and leave.
"Tristan!"
Tristan completely ignored her and walked straight out the door.
With her injured foot, Harriet couldn't chase after him.
Soon after, Griffin knocked and came in.
Not seeing Tristan, he asked, "Harriet, where is he?"
"He had something to do and left."
Griffin frowned. "But your foot is injured. How could he just leave you alone?"
"I'm fine." Harriet had many questions for him but didn't know where to start. "Griffin, where have you been all these years?"
"It's a long story." Griffin smiled. "Let me take you home first, okay?"
Harriet nodded.
Cloud Bay.
Tristan sat leaning back on the sofa with his eyes closed, resting.
Ryder walked in and reported, "Mr. Lancaster, the person who almost hit Mrs. Lancaster was a spoiled rich kid, drunk driving. Nothing suspicious. We can confirm he wasn't hired to deliberately hit Mrs. Lancaster."
"Good that he wasn't." Tristan asked, "Is she still at the hospital?"
"Mrs. Lancaster rented a wheelchair. Griffin took her back to Lakeside Gardens."
"Did you find information on Griffin?"
"Found a little, but very limited."
"Go on."
Ryder opened the file. "Griffin has no birth record. He probably wasn't born in a regular hospital. Records show he grew up in a town in Luminara City, right next to Mrs. Lancaster's hometown."
"Griffin has no father. His household only had him and his mother. His mother died ten years ago, but Griffin was excellent—he skipped grades throughout school and was recommended to Emberfall University."
"But strangely, Griffin suddenly disappeared while at Emberfall. It's been exactly five years."
"Disappeared for five years?" Tristan slowly opened his eyes. "I heard he went abroad. Didn't you find anything?"
Ryder shook his head. "Nothing. And if he went abroad, wouldn't he have contacted Mrs. Lancaster?"
"Mr. Lancaster, you may not know this, but after Griffin disappeared, Mrs. Lancaster looked for him for a long time. She even filed a police report. Even the police couldn't find him, and eventually the case went nowhere."
"But all these years, Mrs. Lancaster never gave up looking for him. Every so often, she'd go to the police station to ask about him."
Tristan's chest felt irritated. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it. "So he has five years completely blank, whereabouts unknown."
"Yes, this person is full of mysteries."
"He's been secretly following Harriet." Tristan ordered, "Whatever his purpose is, keep a close eye on him."
"Okay."
Lakeside Gardens.
Griffin helped Harriet sit down on the sofa and went to pour her a glass of water.
"Thank you." Harriet asked urgently, "Griffin, where have you been these years? Do you know I've been looking for you? I couldn't find you, even the police couldn't find any trace of you. I almost thought something happened to you and you were dead."
"Harriet, I'm sorry for making you worry." Griffin held the water glass with both hands, turning it gently, and spoke with difficulty. "These years, I was in Vesperia."
"What?" Harriet was shocked. "Don't tell me you were tricked into going to Vesperia?" Vesperia was a country famous for its high crime rate. Basically no one would voluntarily go there.
"I wasn't tricked. I'm not that stupid." Griffin smiled. "Someone wanted me dead. They went to great lengths to kill me. I didn't die, but I was seriously injured and unconscious. When I woke up, half a month had passed, and I'd already been sold to Vesperia."
"That place is hell on earth. I couldn't escape and had no way to contact you. I almost died there several times."
His face wore its usual gentle smile, his tone casual, as if talking about something that had nothing to do with him.
"Harriet, being able to come back alive to see you is fate's arrangement."
Harriet cried with sadness. "How could this happen? Who would be so cruel to harm you?"
"I don't know." Griffin looked at her. "Harriet, don't be sad. I'm right here in front of you now, aren't I? The only regret is that I couldn't come back in time to see your grandmother one last time."
"You know about that?"
"After I returned to the country, the first thing I did was go back home to find you, but I couldn't. So I came to Emberfall. I finally managed to find out about you and learned you were married and your grandmother had passed away."
Harriet asked, "Did you actually find me but didn't show yourself?"
"Yes, Harriet. After I found you, I've been quietly following you." Griffin admitted openly.
"Then why didn't you come out and meet me?"
"I didn't want to disturb you." Griffin took a sip of water. "I secretly followed you, even followed you back to your hometown. I saw your husband by your side."
"If you hadn't been in danger today, I still wouldn't have met with you." Griffin looked at her. "Harriet, did you marry the man you always liked?"
Harriet nodded.
"Is he good to you?"
"I don't know."
Griffin frowned. "Why wouldn't you know?"
"A lot has happened since we got married. It's hard to explain in a few words."
"Then he's not good to you." Griffin's face turned cold. "I'll go kill him!"
"Griffin!"
Harriet was shocked.
Because the old Griffin would never say something like that. He rarely even got angry.
Harriet couldn't imagine how much suffering he'd endured in Vesperia to have this kind of instinctive reaction.
"I don't know how you escaped death and came back from Vesperia, but Athenia isn't a place where you can just kill people. You must not do anything rash."
Harriet looked at him seriously. "When I said I don't know, it doesn't mean he's really bad to me. It's just that many things are hard to explain in a sentence or two."
"But one thing I'm certain of—I love him, and I won't allow anyone to hurt him."
"I understand." Griffin's expression softened. "But Harriet, I also won't allow anyone to hurt you. If he's not good to you, I definitely won't let him off."
"Let's not talk about this." Harriet asked, "Where are you staying now?"
"I lost my driver's license long ago. I can't stay at regular hotels, so I can only stay at small inns that don't require ID."
"Then get your license reissued as soon as possible and get your life back on track."
"Okay."
"Small inns have poor conditions. I have a spare guest room here. Stay here tonight, and after you get your license, you can find a job and rent a place."
"Harriet, you're married now. It's not appropriate for me to stay at your place." Griffin said, "I've suffered every kind of hardship in Vesperia. The conditions at a small inn are already very, very good for me."
Harriet's eyes reddened again. "Griffin, you're back now. Everything will get better."
Griffin smiled, but his eyes held tears. "Yes."
