Chapter 283 She Actually Has Thoughts of Him
Hayden saw Scarlett at the door and looked at her with grievance.
"Scarlett, I don't want to go back to Silver Oak Heights. You promised me I could live wherever I want."
Scarlett remembered her promise to Hayden. Back then, when she got her son back, she wanted to keep Hayden by her side.
But now it seemed the conditions weren't right for keeping Hayden with her. Still, since she had promised, she couldn't go back on her word.
"Yes, you can live wherever you want," she agreed.
Seeing that she wouldn't drive him away like last time, Hayden started worrying about Ambrose. "What about Dad? Can Dad live here?"
Scarlett was silent for a few seconds before responding, "It's not convenient for him to live here."
The children needed to know that the two of them wouldn't be living together anymore. Otherwise, Hayden would keep pulling stunts like this to get their attention.
"He could live here before, why is it not convenient now?" Hayden couldn't accept this, and tears immediately welled up in his eyes.
Yara suddenly chimed in from the side.
"Are you two not dating anymore? Is that why you're not living together?"
The child's innocent words instantly made things super awkward.
Scarlett stood at the door, not knowing whether to leave or stay.
"I'm going to be taken back to my other mom soon. I'm so miserable!" Suddenly, Hayden burst into tears, crying like his heart was breaking.
Scarlett couldn't stand hearing him cry. She quickly walked into the room, sat on the other side of the bed, reached out to pick him up, and held him in her arms.
"No, no, I won't let them take you away. You can stay here as long as you want."
Hayden buried himself in her arms, looking at her with teary eyes. "But if Dad's not here, my other mom definitely won't let me stay here."
He pleaded, "Scarlett, please let Dad live here. That way, I won't be taken away."
Scarlett wanted to say that he was her son and no one could take him away, but how could she explain to him how he had become her son?
At this moment, Yara came over and scared Hayden by saying, "Hayden, when your other mom takes you back, she'll sell you."
Hayden threw himself into Scarlett's arms again, shouting, "I don't want to be sold."
Scarlett patted his back. "No one would dare sell you, and you won't be taken back."
But no matter how she tried to comfort him, Hayden wouldn't calm down. She looked at Yara, her tone somewhat stern.
"Yara, how could you scare him like that!"
Yara's lips quivered with grievance. "Mommy's scolding me because of Hayden. Mommy doesn't love me anymore!"
In the room, the two children's cries overlapped, deafening, and the scene was total chaos.
Seeing this, Ambrose quickly reached out to hold Yara. "Yara, don't cry. You won't look pretty if you cry."
She looked at Ambrose with teary eyes. "Ambrose, don't you love me anymore either?"
"How could that be? Yara is the sweetest. How could I not love you?"
"But Mommy only loves Hayden now, not me anymore. I'm an extra child. Ambrose, if you don't live here, I'll become a poor child that nobody loves. You should just live here!"
Yara started pleading with Ambrose. Ambrose looked up at Scarlett, who was looking at him coolly.
"It's not appropriate for me to live here anymore. If you want, you can come live with me at Silver Oak Heights," Ambrose suddenly changed the subject.
Yara turned her head to look at Ambrose. "I'll go live at Silver Oak Heights, Hayden stays at Lakeside Garden, we swap places?"
"Not exactly. If Hayden really misses me, he can come back to Silver Oak Heights too."
Scarlett frowned. What did Ambrose mean? Was he trying to compete with her for the children?
"Yara, Mommy wasn't scolding you just now," Scarlett explained.
Yara angrily turned her head away, lying on Ambrose, looking angry and refusing to listen to her explanation.
In the room, each person held a child, trying to comfort them.
After Hayden's crying stopped, Scarlett was about to put him on the bed, but he clung to her.
"Scarlett, you haven't agreed to let Dad live here yet."
Scarlett didn't know how to respond. She had just painfully cut off their relationship—how could she casually let Ambrose come back to Lakeside Garden?
Seeing that Scarlett didn't respond, Yara said in a sweet childlike voice, "My mommy won't agree to that. You're not even her real child."
Hayden turned to look at Scarlett again, about to cry. "Is it because I'm not your real child that you won't agree? Is that it?"
Scarlett felt helpless. She silently put Hayden down and walked toward the door.
As soon as she left, both children immediately stopped crying and looked at each other.
"Hayden, my mommy's angry," Yara said.
Hayden was also worried. Would Scarlett get so angry that she wouldn't let him live here anymore?
Ambrose, holding Yara, said, "You two stay here. I'll go check on her."
Ambrose walked to the living room but didn't see anyone, so he went back to her bedroom and stood at the door, knocking.
After a while, Scarlett opened the door, her expression very distant. "What is it?"
Ambrose looked at her seriously. "Don't take what the kids said to heart. I'll explain things to them clearly."
"Why didn't you explain just now?" She was unusually cold.
When he didn't speak up earlier, she naturally guessed what he was thinking. She sneered, "You just wanted to push all of this onto me and stay out of it."
Ambrose's brow furrowed slightly. "I didn't think that way."
"You don't need to explain. I've been thinking, let Hayden go with you. Let everything go back to how it was before. That's better for Hayden. If Yara's willing to go back to Silver Oak Heights with you too, take her along."
Ambrose's expression suddenly turned cold. "You're not going to keep them anymore?"
"Looking at our current situation, you're better suited to take care of the children and can give them better educational resources," she said.
Ambrose's eyes were cold. "Are you serious?"
She nodded. "Once we've settled this, we'll tell the children. If Yara wants to go to Silver Oak Heights, let her go too."
Ambrose was so angry that he turned and walked away. After a couple of steps, he stopped, his back to her, and said, "I never thought you could be such a heartless mother."
Scarlett felt terrible inside, but she didn't want to explain more to him.
She went back to her room and closed the door. She didn't want to face the children anymore—let him deal with it.
But before long, she heard the children crying loudly, followed by knocking on her door.
"Scarlett, Scarlett, open the door!" It was Hayden's voice.
"Mommy, Mommy, don't you want Yara anymore?" Yara shouted through her tears.
She sat still, letting the two children bang on the door. As long as she didn't open it, they would feel hurt and then leave with Ambrose.
With the children around, she could never completely break things off with Ambrose.
Just now, seeing him, she actually found herself missing him.
