Chapter 273 Bad News Spreads

Chapter 273 Bad News Spreads

After hearing the doctor's diagnosis, Scarlett's face turned pale. She never expected it to be this severe, no wonder the pain was quite unusual.

The doctor began putting away the equipment, gave her a cold glance as he said sarcastically, "When you were having fun, you didn't think about the consequences. It’s a bit late for regret now."

Scarlett remained silent, deaf to what outsiders thought. She silently got off the examination table and put on her clothes.

After leaving the consultation room, Scarlett picked up her medicine and walked out of the hospital.

Standing at the hospital entrance, she felt cold all over. Even the scorching summer heat outside couldn't warm the chill in her body.

She had never felt so humiliated.

She would never forgive Ambrose.

At the Boleyn Manor, the atmosphere was a world away.

Ever since the two kids arrived, Cody's smile hadn't stopped. He truly adored Yara.

"Great-grandpa, Hayden, and I want to go play outside," Yara said. She was already bored playing indoors and suddenly wanted to go out.

It was noon, and the July-August weather was hot enough to roast someone.

"Yara, it's hot right now. Let's wait until the afternoon when it's cooler, then we'll go outside and play."

Yara pointed toward the dense woods. "We can stay under the trees, it's shaded there."

Cody still didn't agree, his protective instincts kicking in, so he said, "How about I take you to my collection room. There are lots of treasures there."

Hayden, who had been quiet the whole time, opened his mouth in surprise. Didn't Cody never let anyone into his collection room?

Now he was willing to let Yara go play there. Cody was really playing favorites.

Hayden felt a pang of resentment, but when Yara reached out, took his hand and cheerfully went with Cody to the collection room, he kept quiet.

The people at the Boleyn Manor were also surprised. Cody never let people into his collection room casually, and now he was letting a little girl in and even letting her play there. Just how much did he like this little girl!

Since returning to the Boleyn Manor, Ambrose hadn't been idle either, handling business in his study.

When he was almost done with work matters, Chase's call came in.

"Mr. Boleyn, Ms. Mellon just went to the hospital. The bodyguard following her reported that she visited the gynecology department."

Ambrose froze for a few seconds. Last night, he had been so angry that he'd lost control. Now he was filled with regret.

"Where is she now?"

"She’s returned home," Chase replied.

"For the next while, assign two more people to follow her," Ambrose instructed.

"Vaughn has already sent people. Our team ran into them today, and they made it clear that we didn't need to have our team follow her."

A while ago, Scarlett had told Ambrose that Vaughn had given her people, so he didn't need to send anyone to follow her.

At the time, he hadn't agreed, thinking she had given in. Now it seemed she hadn't.

She wanted to cut ties with him bit by bit!

Ambrose's face darkened, and his tone became harsh. "You follow her anyway. Don't worry about them."

After hanging up, he sat in his chair, looking down, wondering if Scarlett was badly hurt. Should he call and ask? His fingertips tracing the edge of his phone for a while. After calming down a bit, he made a call.

The phone rang four or five times before being declined.

He took a deep breath. Although he had expected this result, he still felt a tightness in his chest.

There was a knock at the door. Ambrose called out for them to enter.

Bodhi pushed the door open and walked in casually, leaning against the desk without any proper posture.

"Ambrose, Grandpa plans to let me join the Boleyn Group. What do you think?"

Ambrose lifted his eyelids and glanced at him coolly. "If I said no, would you listen?"

"You're just afraid I'll go into the company and cause trouble," Bodhi said slowly.

"The way you are, at most you'd just hold things back."

This was a blatant put-down. Although Bodhi's abilities couldn't compare to Ambrose's, he wouldn't exactly hold things back either.

"Ambrose, who are you insulting?"

Ambrose put down his phone and pinched the bridge of his nose. "So tell me, what can you do?"

"I like racing. Don't you have a new energy R&D department? I want to go there."

Ambrose's expression turned cold. "Just because you can race doesn't mean you can do R&D. That place requires professional knowledge."

Seeing this, Bodhi shrugged, looking indifferent. "Fine, forget it then."

The new energy R&D department was a separate division Ambrose had set up after taking office, focusing on automotive new energy.

And this department was a new direction.

The Boleyn Group's main business had always been in real estate. Looking at economic trends, real estate was gradually heading toward decline, while new energy would rise in the future.

So Ambrose was planning ahead.

Before there were any results, he wouldn't allow anyone to sabotage it.

Especially people from the Boleyn family.

"Ambrose, I heard that last night at Evergreen Club, you saved a woman who looks a lot like Ms. Mellon?" Bodhi's face was full of gossip.

Ambrose gave him a cold look. "Where did you hear that?"

"In our circle that it spread last night. Don't tell me you didn't know?"

Ambrose's face darkened. He picked up his phone and made a call.

"Do you have anything else?" He asked Bodhi.

"I just want to know if you like Ms. Mellon as a person, or if you just like how she looks," Bodhi said with a smile.

Ambrose's eyes suddenly filled with hostility, making Bodhi shiver. He quickly said, "Pretend I didn't say anything. I'm leaving."

After Bodhi left, Ambrose spoke to Chase on the phone.

"Clean up the rumors from last night."

Chase quickly guessed what this was about - it must be about Felicity's appearance last night.

Chase understood the importance of this matter. If word of this reached Scarlett's ears, who knew what kind of misunderstanding it would cause.

Last night, he could tell that Ambrose getting half-drunk was related to Scarlett, and today Scarlett had gone to the hospital for gynecology.

He could confirm they were having a conflict.

In this situation, adding Felicity to the mix would only deepen the conflict. He said, "I'll handle it right away."

After Ambrose hung up, a servant came to call them for dinner.

In the dining room, Cody sat at the head of the long table. To Cody's left was Ambrose, then Hayden, then Yara.

To Cody's right was Gage, then Bodhi.

Kade's family was abroad.

At the Boleyn family dining table, they maintained the tradition of not talking during meals, so apart from the sound of cutlery, no one spoke in the dining room.

This was Yara's first time eating at the Boleyn Manor. Seeing no one talking, she didn't dare make a sound either. But there was food she wanted that she couldn't reach, so she turned to look at Ambrose.

Ambrose had things on his mind and didn't notice her gaze. Hayden, beside her, asked, "What do you want to eat?"

She pointed at the dish she wanted. "I want to eat those meatballs."

Only then did a servant step forward to serve her.

"Yara, just say what you want to eat," Cody said, noticing her restraint.

Yara pouted. "You're all not talking, so I didn't dare talk either."

Hearing this, Cody was stunned for two seconds, then laughed. "You can talk. Just say what you want to eat."

After hearing this, Yara broke into a smile, looking adorable and cute, filling Cody's heart with affection.

Seeing this, Bodhi said with a half-smile, "Grandpa, have you already picked out a child bride for Hayden?"

Cody immediately choked.
