Chapter 251 She Scolds Him for the First Time, Ambrose Panics

Chapter 251 She Scolds Him for the First Time, Ambrose Panics

Scarlett quietly watched Ambrose. In the dim light, his face was slightly stiff and his eyes looked normal, but she could still sense that he was nervous.

"Haven't found out yet?" She asked coolly. "Or you just don't want to tell me?"

These words already revealed her suspicion. There was no way Ambrose couldn't pick up on it. He knew she suspected him, but to what extent?

"I told you, I will definitely find the child. Can't you have that much faith in me?" he said in a low voice.

She was tired of him constantly beating around the bush and avoiding a direct response. Suppressing her anger, she asked, "Have you found out or not?"

Ambrose let out a breath. Should he tell her now?

Suddenly, his phone rang, and he immediately seized the excuse.

"Let me take this call first."

Scarlett took a deep breath in frustration. He still wasn't planning to tell her.

He knew, didn't he!

Why wouldn't he tell her?

She was determined to get an answer tonight.

The night was deep and quiet.

Ambrose's voice on the phone was low and deep, like low piano strings, captivating.

But she wasn't in the mood to appreciate it now. She hoped he'd end the call quickly.

But whether the call was genuinely long or Ambrose was doing it on purpose, by the time the car returned to Silver Oak Heights, he was still holding his phone.

The car stopped. Scarlett glanced at him, a mocking smile on her lips, then opened the car door, got out, and slammed it shut with force, making a dull thud to show her displeasure.

She walked toward the inner door of the house with light but hurried steps, looking impatient.

Ambrose got out of the car and watched her back, only then lowering the phone from his ear and taking a deep breath.

Why did she suddenly come to Silver Oak Heights? Was it to see Hayden?

Coming to see Hayden in the middle of the night—had she discovered something?

Realizing this, Ambrose didn't linger either. He lifted his feet and followed her inside. Once in the house, the butler Kai came forward. From Kai, he learned she had gone to Hayden's room. He raised his hand and rubbed his forehead.

He was certain she knew Hayden was her son.

Her earlier questioning was just testing whether he'd be honest. He couldn't worry about how she found out right now—he needed to figure out how to explain this to her.

Ambrose couldn't just stew alone. He headed toward Hayden's room.

At the doorway, he saw Scarlett sitting by the bed, staring at the sleeping Hayden, her eyes filled with joy and tears.

Seeing her like this, he was even more certain she knew about Hayden's identity.

He'd expected she'd be both happy and sad, but actually seeing the tears in her eyes made his heart ache. He simply turned and left.

Scarlett examined every detail of Hayden's face, noticing the features he shared with her—his ear shape was like hers, his eyebrows were like hers, while his other features resembled Ambrose.

How had she not recognized him?

Hayden had been right under her nose all this time, yet it took an outsider to notice the resemblance. How foolish of her.

Scarlett felt both guilty and heartbroken, wishing she could hold him in her arms and love him properly.

But it was okay. From now on, she'd have plenty of time to take care of him and live with him.

She stayed inside for quite a while. Only after calming her emotions did she leave Hayden's room. At the door, she ran into Kai, who said there was freshly made soup in the kitchen.

Scarlett didn't need to think to know Ambrose had sent Kai to call her. She went to the dining room, and Ambrose was indeed there, head down, drinking soup.

"You had quite a bit to drink. Have some soup to help with that," he said, looking at her and pointing to the seat next to him, where a bowl of soup was already placed.

Scarlett said nothing and sat down beside him. After she'd had a few sips, he finally spoke slowly.

"That question from earlier—do you still want me to answer it?"

Scarlett acted as if she hadn't heard, continuing to drink her soup. Only after finishing the entire bowl did she look up, wipe her mouth, and look at him with a flat expression.

"Speak."

Her tone was ice-cold.

Ambrose's heart trembled. He reached out to hold her hand, but Scarlett dodged, making it clear she wouldn't let him touch her. He accepted his fate and revealed the truth.

"I found him. It's Hayden."

As expected. He had known all along.

Scarlett laughed in anger. "You found him long ago. Why did you keep hiding it from me? You knew how much I wanted to see my child, yet you hid it from me. What were you thinking?"

Scarlett's tone at the end clearly showed she was furious.

"Calm down, let me explain," Ambrose said in a deep voice, trying to soothe her, though he felt quite guilty inside.

"Anyone who could stay calm at a time like this wouldn't be human. Stop stalling and talk," Scarlett said fiercely.

This was the first time Ambrose had seen her truly angry.

Ambrose couldn't delay any longer and told her the truth.

"I didn't tell you because you once rejected the child's father. Besides that reason, I was also worried that if you went to find Octavia, it would be harder to investigate what really happened four years ago."

Scarlett took a deep breath. "I really didn't want to know who the man was that night, but I wanted to know where my child was!"

She took another deep breath and continued, "Even if I knew about the child, if you wanted to investigate what happened four years ago, why would I sabotage that?"

Ambrose nodded. "I didn't think it through. It's my fault."

"Realizing it's your fault now is too late," Scarlett said, pushing back her chair as if to leave.

Ambrose stood up and grabbed her slender wrist. "You can hit me, yell at me, but don't be angry. If you hurt yourself being angry, it'll break my heart."

Scarlett gave a cold laugh. "Break your heart? Hiding things from me is how you care about me? Well, I really can't accept that kind of care."

She struggled to break free from his grip, but she wasn't strong enough. She had no choice but to tell him to let go. Ambrose didn't dare make her angrier and released her.

Scarlett wasn't leaving. She went to Ambrose's bedroom. His bedroom had clothes she'd left there last time. She took the clothes and went to shower.

Tonight, she wasn't planning to return to Lakeside Garden. She wanted to sleep with her son.

After being separated from Hayden for four years, she now had to make up for that lost time. She didn't want to be apart from him for even a moment.

Ambrose saw she wasn't leaving and breathed a sigh of relief. Even though he watched her go to sleep with Hayden, he didn't dare say a word.

On the night meant to celebrate their relationship, he slept alone.

The next morning, following his biological clock, Hayden opened his eyes and saw Scarlett beside him. Thinking he was still dreaming, he pinched his arm. Finding it hurt, he realized it wasn't a dream.

His small hand touched Scarlett's face—it was warm, a real person.

Scarlett was woken by his touch. Opening her eyes and seeing Hayden's surprised expression, she smiled and greeted him.

"Hayden, good morning!"

Hearing her voice, Hayden was overjoyed and immediately nestled into Scarlett's arms. "Scarlett, did you come last night? Did you come specially to sleep with me?"

Scarlett held his small body tighter. "Yes, I came last night, especially to sleep with you."

Hayden nestled against Scarlett's soft chest, comfortable and happy. "Did you miss me?"

"Yes, I missed you."

He looked up and immediately pushed his luck. "Scarlett, then from now on I'll go live at Lakeside Garden, and you can see me every night, so you won't miss me anymore."

If Hayden asked for the stars in the sky right now, Scarlett would probably try to get them for him, let alone living at Lakeside Garden.

"That's a good idea. From now on, you'll live with me at Lakeside Garden."

Hayden thought he'd heard wrong and asked again. After getting confirmation, he was thrilled. When Ambrose pushed open the door, Hayden immediately announced the news to him.
