Chapter 242 Want to Meet Her
When Scarlett was taken away from the company, all the employees in the design department gathered to watch. Some looked on coldly with indifference, some gloated over her misfortune, and some were genuinely worried.
But Scarlett herself remained surprisingly calm.
She followed the law enforcement officers out of the Boleyn Group building, got into their car, and headed to the judicial authorities.
Indigo's counterattack had begun, but she had nothing to hide and wasn't afraid at all.
Regarding the art gallery project, she had a clear conscience. She had won the project purely on merit. The bidding process had been changed from the usual procedure to on-site selection, with every company present. How could there be bribery?
Indigo wasn't just targeting her—he also wanted to drag Orion down with her, and this was a harsh warning to Ambrose.
In the economic investigation interrogation room, Scarlett remained calm and composed, answering the staff's questions truthfully.
"The Boleyn Group won the project purely on merit, and the selection was made on-site at the time. There was no bribery."
"Do you know Orion Philip from before?" The staff member asked.
"Yes, but I hadn't seen him for several years. I only saw him again during this project."
"Did you contact him before the bidding meeting?"
She remembered visiting Owen at that time, and Owen had told her she could reach out to Orion if needed. Fortunately, she hadn't called Orion even once before the bidding meeting.
"No." She answered with certainty.
The staff member's expression darkened, and he continued asking, "The Boleyn Group never revealed that you would participate in this bid until you showed up at the venue. Was it a last-minute decision?"
"We indeed didn't announce our intention to bid publicly because we were afraid of complications that might cost us the project."
"That's just an excuse. You were worried about people knowing you were acquainted with the person in charge of the bidding."
The moment Scarlett heard this, she felt anger rising within her. They could actually say something so far-fetched.
"As law enforcement officers, pinning charges on people like this—is this how you do your job?"
"When faced with questions, just answer them. Personal attacks on law enforcement officers will only add to your charges," the other person snapped.
Scarlett gave a cold laugh. "All the bidding companies knew who was in charge of the bidding. So what if people knew we were acquainted? What's wrong with that? Just because I know who's in charge, you can accuse me of bribery? That's ridiculous. Bribery requires evidence. Relying only on speculation is ignoring the law."
"This bidding involved on-site selection of design proposals and was decided by voting on the spot."
After Scarlett finished speaking, the other person said directly, "A leader involved in this project reported that Orion told him to vote for the Boleyn Group. As for whether there was any private financial gain, we will investigate further."
Hearing this, Scarlett understood—someone was slandering Orion, and that person was probably connected to Indigo.
But even if they wanted to force charges on them, they needed evidence of bribery. They couldn't just pin charges based on her acquaintance with Orion. The judicial authorities weren't their personal playground.
After being questioned, Scarlett came out. As soon as she emerged, she saw Felix negotiating. When he saw her, he lowered his voice and said, "Ms. Mellon, Mr. Boleyn is waiting for you outside."
Scarlett walked out of the economic investigation office and saw Ambrose's Bentley parked not far away. She walked over, and Chase got out to open the rear door.
She bent down and got in the car.
Ambrose reached out and pulled her close. "Were you scared?"
She looked up at him and shook her head.
"All their questions were based on speculation, without a shred of real evidence. They were just trying to intimidate me."
Coming from a high-ranking official's family, she was well aware of these tactics. If they really had evidence, they wouldn't question her this way. They were just trying to scare her, even warn her.
Ambrose's expression instantly turned grim. "Indigo started making moves today after I rejected him yesterday. Then there's no need to keep playing games with him."
Scarlett looked thoughtful, then said, "I also have evidence of Octavia's wrongdoing."
The more cards they held, the more control they had.
The car slowly pulled away from the police building. Scarlett leaned against him in silence. A tough battle lay ahead.
"Now that Indigo is fixated on this matter, how will you handle it?" She asked.
Ambrose's expression remained calm. "Don't worry. They can't produce evidence of bribery. But since they've made their move, we can't let this end too quickly. He needs to learn a lesson."
Seeing Ambrose so confident, Scarlett was still worried. After all, Indigo was a government official.
How could he fight against that?
"I think we should let my dad know," Scarlett said quietly. Although Owen was in prison, she felt that having another person thinking of solutions would be good.
"Don't disturb your dad at this time. The Boleyn family has reached its current position through real strength. There must be someone who can suppress Indigo."
Scarlett's eyes widened. Was he saying Ambrose had connections in high places?
That made sense. As the wealthiest family in Silverlight City, the Boleyn family's background couldn't be that simple.
"Many people have their eyes on Indigo's position. He can't cover the sky with one hand," Ambrose's voice carried a hint of menace.
Scarlett didn't insist anymore. She'd let him handle it.
Given Owen's current situation, she really shouldn't disturb him too much. Many eyes were watching, especially people like Indigo—they wouldn't give Owen any chance to make a comeback.
The two returned to the company. Scarlett ignored everyone's surprised looks and walked openly toward her office.
"Ms. Mellon, are you okay?" Someone asked with fake concern.
Scarlett smiled faintly.
"I'm fine. Just a small misunderstanding."
"What kind of misunderstanding brings the police?" Echo came forward, her eyes darting around, looking up to no good.
Scarlett glanced at her coolly. Before she could speak, she heard Sable's voice, "Echo, have you finished what I asked you to do?"
Echo shrank back and quickly replied, "I'll go finish it now."
With that, she didn't dare linger and walked away awkwardly.
Scarlett turned to look at Sable with a grateful expression.
Sable walked up to her and asked with concern, "Are you okay?"
She smiled. "I'm fine."
"Good." With that, Sable turned and left. Scarlett raised her eyebrows and walked to her office.
The news of her being taken away by an economic investigation had spread throughout the Boleyn Group.
In fact, it had spread not just throughout the Boleyn Group, but all over Silverlight City.
She soon received calls of concern from various parties. The first was from Finnian.
"Finnian, I'm fine. I'm back now." She held her phone and sat down in her chair.
"What happened?" Finnian asked.
Finnian had always been someone Scarlett trusted, so she didn't hide anything from him and told him the whole story.
Octavia had hired someone to commit murder, and Octavia's father, to save Octavia, deliberately framed her.
After hearing everything, Finnian said, "I know people in the judicial department. Let me ask around for you."
After ending the call with Finnian, she had just sat down when she received a call from Phaedra, asking to meet with Scarlett.
