Chapter 239 Evil Begets Evil
"Oh, by the way, Ulysses just spilled the beans. The person who hired someone to hit you was Octavia."
Scarlett thought she'd heard wrong. After two seconds of shock, she asked if it was true, and Vaughn confirmed it.
She felt like she was dreaming.
Ulysses had ratted out Octavia—this was totally unexpected.
Had Ulysses fallen out with the Mitchell family?
"This is kind of sudden." She was a bit excited, so much so that her voice trembled.
"It is very sudden. Normally, Ulysses would never do something like this, but since it's come out, the authorities naturally went to arrest her."
On Memorial Day, Octavia actually got arrested. Nothing could make Scarlett happier or more excited than this.
"Vaughn, there won't be any twists in this case, right?" She worried it might just be false hope.
"Hard to say. Nobody knows why Ulysses gave up Octavia or what's really going on, but I won't give them any chance to escape."
Vaughn's confident tone gave Scarlett a sense of reality. This meant Octavia was in detention, and it would be very hard for her to clear her name now.
A scheming woman like Octavia deserved to learn a lesson.
Scarlett and Vaughn chatted a bit more, and after confirming everything, they prepared to end the call.
"Vaughn, thank you." Scarlett said.
On Memorial Day, he'd brought her great news.
She should have gone to see Elowen, but Elowen had told her not to visit each other at this time—wait until things calmed down.
For now, she could only talk to them on the phone.
The two ended their call, and Scarlett turned to Ambrose. "Ulysses gave up Octavia."
Ambrose looked calm. This turn of events was within his expectations. If Octavia could secretly take Hayden and pretend to be Hayden's mother, there was nothing she wouldn't do.
As long as she'd done it, the truth would come out someday.
But what he never expected was that she'd be exposed by her own family.
This really proved that evil gets what it deserves.
"Do you think Ulysses fell out with the Mitchell family, so that's why he gave her up?" Scarlett asked, puzzled.
Oh, right, yesterday when she'd asked Ulysses if he would take the fall for Octavia, he said he wouldn't. At the time, she thought he was just saying it casually, but he actually meant it.
Had Ulysses seen the Mitchell family's true colors?
Or had her attempt to drive a wedge between them worked?
"It's possible." Ambrose narrowed his long eyes. The real reason might be because of Ulysses's second personality.
"He probably saw Indigo and his daughter's true faces. Otherwise, he wouldn't have done this."
Scarlett agreed. Indigo might have wanted Ulysses to take the blame, but Ulysses wasn't willing. After all, taking the blame would mean a charge of intentional murder, which meant serious prison time.
"I thought he was pretty strange yesterday. It was probably his second personality!" Scarlett murmured.
"Do you think he'll use a mental illness certificate to escape what he did to me that night?"
"It's not impossible." Ambrose replied.
But once Ulysses produced that certificate, he wouldn't be able to stay at the Mitchell Group.
However, now that Octavia's situation had come to light, Indigo couldn't possibly let Ulysses stay in that position.
Once Ulysses left and someone new took over, that would be troublesome too.
After all, Ulysses's fundraising schemes were the most important step in bringing down the Mitchell Group. If he left and his replacement had any brains, it wouldn't be easy to destroy it.
Scarlett immediately shared the news of Octavia's arrest with her friend Briar.
Briar was as happy as if it were a holiday, saying Octavia's karma had finally come.
Briar was as happy as a child and bluntly said that this woman Octavia's retribution had finally come.
"Briar, do you think Hayden and Yara look alike?"
Briar paused for a few seconds, then answered after thinking, "The two kids do look somewhat similar."
"Why are you suddenly asking this?" Briar asked back.
Scarlett told her what she'd heard. "A lot of people say they look alike, so they must look somewhat alike."
"I just find it strange that the two kids would look alike. Only people with blood relations look alike, right?" She murmured, as if speaking to Briar but also to herself.
"Not necessarily. In this world, many people look alike. Maybe this is just your fate!" Briar sighed.
Fate?
Was it really just fate?
Then Scarlett invited Briar to come over for dinner tonight, since it was Memorial Day, to have a gathering.
Briar refused, saying, "I don't want to come over and disturb you guys."
"Ambrose has a business dinner tonight. It'll just be the two kids and me. Come over!"
"I already promised someone else tonight, so I won't come over. Let's get together next time!"
After chatting for a while, they ended the call.
Scarlett sat on the edge of the bed, lost in thought for a moment, then pushed down the thoughts in her mind and got up to prepare dinner.
