Chapter 219 Won't Let Her Go
"I've been living like this for years and don't feel it's bad. After all, given my position, getting married does carry certain risks."
Phaedra put down her knife and fork, her expression serious. "Your concerns are valid. You're the head of the Boleyn family, so naturally, there will be more conditions and restrictions when it comes to marriage."
"So there's no rush, take your time!" Ambrose chimed in.
Phaedra's eyes flickered, and she continued, "Actually, in my opinion, you and Octavia are well-matched, and Octavia is Hayden's mother. You wouldn't have to worry about her treating Hayden badly. You could really consider it."
After a few seconds' pause, she added, "Octavia wants to live with Hayden too. And of course, if you need it, she could help you in your career."
Ambrose smiled faintly. "When I get married, it will be to someone I love. I won't marry without an emotional foundation."
In other words, he didn't like Octavia, so he wouldn't marry her.
"Feelings can develop over time..." Phaedra still wouldn't give up and wanted to keep persuading him.
"Enough, let's eat. Why bring this up?" Seeing Ambrose's firm attitude, Indigo immediately cut off Phaedra's attempt to continue.
The two had a clear division of labor, good cop, bad cop.
This had always been their approach.
Phaedra changed the subject with a sigh. "I'm just worried about you both. Since Ambrose doesn't want to discuss it right now, I'll drop it."
Octavia was actually quite angry inside. Ambrose was truly heartless, but she had no choice. For now, she could only gradually get closer to him and see if she could change his mind.
But Scarlett had to leave. Otherwise, with her around Ambrose, not only would Hayden become more and more distant from her, but Ambrose wouldn't give her a second glance either.
Plus, Scarlett still had that video, which was the biggest threat and had to be completely dealt with.
Finally, Indigo found the right moment to bring up Ulysses's situation, and soon steered the conversation to tonight's main topic.
"Ambrose, the Boleyn Group is working with the Mitchell Group. You and Ulysses are in the same boat. Now that Ulysses is in this situation, it affects your project too. I think, for the project to proceed smoothly, you should help with Ulysses's matter."
Ambrose picked up his knife and fork again, about to reach for some food, but paused.
"How can I help?"
"Scarlett has a special relationship with you. You could ask her to drop the case, and the Mitchell family will compensate her."
Ambrose smiled slightly. "Mr. Mitchell, you might not know this yet, but she wants to break up with me now. Even if I wanted to help, I'm powerless."
Indigo smiled. "Wasn't the child just with her?"
"Yes, she likes Hayden and is willing to let Hayden be close to her, but she has issues with me."
After he spoke, Indigo laughed. "Ambrose, I won't spell it out, but there are definitely ways, it just depends on whether you're willing to help."
This was basically coercion.
Ambrose turned the lazy Susan. When the dish he wanted was in front of him, he reached over with his knife and fork, and as he placed food on his plate, he spoke.
"Scarlett now has Vaughn backing her. Vaughn's position may not be as high as yours, but it's definitely not small. Common people can't fight officials, you understand this better than I do, Mr. Mitchell."
In other words, it still required Indigo, a high-ranking official, to deal with Vaughn, another high-ranking official.
Indigo had been rebuffed and was furious inside. He simply stopped holding back, his expression turning cold, but Ambrose acted as if he didn't notice.
The Mitchell family had hosted this dinner supposedly to see Hayden but really to ask Ambrose for help. Nothing had gone as they wished, and the Mitchell family now had a problem with Ambrose.
Scarlett came back after paying the bill and saw that Caspian's seat was empty. She looked at Hayden and asked.
"Where is he?"
"He said he left first." Hayden's sweet, childlike voice sounded a bit stiff.
This would normally be fine, but seeing Hayden scratching his head and ears, she sensed something. She deliberately asked.
"Don't tell me you made him angry and he left?"
Hayden, already feeling guilty, avoided eye contact and clumsily defended himself, "He wanted to leave on his own."
This made Scarlett catch on to his odd behavior, becoming more certain that Hayden had said something.
Her face turned cold as she asked, "What did you say?"
Hayden glanced away, pressing his lips together, looking like he had no intention of confessing.
Seeing his attitude, Scarlett didn't indulge him. She bent down to grab her bag and said.
"I'll take you to your dad's."
Hearing this, Hayden frantically hugged her leg. "I'll tell you, I'll tell you, just don't take me there."
Seeing his intense reaction, Scarlett's tone softened. She sat down in the chair. "Go ahead."
Hayden lowered his head and mumbled through what he had said to Caspian.
After hearing it, Scarlett was so embarrassed she wanted to crawl into a hole. She covered her face with both hands and took a deep breath.
Seeing Scarlett like this, Hayden rushed to explain: "Scarlett, he wasn't angry. When he left, he looked pretty happy."
Happy?
That was an amused, suggestive smile.
But she couldn't blame Hayden. How would a child understand that these things shouldn't be said casually? She still needed to guide him.
She lowered her hands from her face and grasped his small shoulders, speaking earnestly.
"Hayden, things like kissing can't be mentioned in front of other people. You'll get teased. Understand?"
Hayden could tell Scarlett was very angry. He had only said it because he didn't want others to have ideas about Scarlett.
"I won't do it again, don't be angry."
Hayden responded in his sweet, childlike voice.
Seeing his good attitude about admitting his mistake, Scarlett couldn't bring herself to say anything harsh. She reached out and touched his forehead.
