Chapter 195 Restricted by Him Everywhere
Since Scarlett kicked Ambrose out of her house that night, they hadn't talked face-to-face. Although they occasionally ran into each other at the company, they just passed by each other.
She said expressionlessly, "It's Saturday today. I need to rest too."
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt Ambrose's gaze sweep over her from head to toe, then heard him ask, "Dressed like that, where are you going?"
Scarlett was wearing a silk dress today with a thin blazer over it, and pointed-toe heels on her feet—a very business-like outfit that was, of course, also stunningly beautiful.
Scarlett tightened her blazer and turned her head away, not looking at him. "Why should I tell you?"
Ambrose let out a light laugh, hands on his hips, deliberately saying, "You better be careful. There are bricks and stones everywhere."
To Scarlett, this didn't sound like anything good. She glared at him hard. Just then, several executives came running over.
Ambrose casually went off with the executives beside him to inspect other areas.
After he left, Scarlett turned to talk to Dash.
"Mr. Foster, take a look at the construction drawings. Is there anything else you don't understand?"
"I can understand them now, but I can't guarantee I'll understand during construction. I'll probably need to trouble you to come check it out then."
Scarlett looked again at the newly built wall that would have to be torn down and rebuilt. She asked when they would redo the brickwork. The answer was the afternoon at the earliest.
Scarlett couldn't wait until the afternoon. She had to leave this morning. After thinking it over, she quietly discussed it with Dash.
"Mr. Foster, I have something going on these two days and might not be able to get to the site right away. Can we stay in touch by video?"
Dash shook his head, looking nervous. "Ms. Mellon, at a time like this, you really need to come to the site. It's lucky Mr. Boleyn came to inspect and found the problem. Otherwise, if we built it wrong and something went wrong, even selling me wouldn't cover the cost."
Scarlett understood Dash's feelings. Having been caught making one mistake by Ambrose, he had to be more careful in every aspect and couldn't slack off. After thinking it over, she could only ask team members for help.
People at the site were already tearing down the wall they'd just built. Scarlett had to go wait in the site office first and come back when they redid the brickwork.
While waiting, Scarlett called Ewan, asking him to help come to the site to keep an eye on things. Ewan readily agreed.
Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief, having solved the problem. Ewan arrived quickly, but just as he got there, Ambrose walked into the temporary office surrounded by a group of people.
Ambrose glanced at Ewan but said nothing. A group of people surrounded him, talking about project matters. Seeing this, Scarlett quickly left with Ewan to inspect the site.
More than ten minutes later, after they finished inspecting, Scarlett gave all the necessary instructions, went to the office to get her suitcase, and prepared to leave. She'd only taken a couple of steps when Ryder stopped her.
"Ms. Mellon, it's almost lunchtime. Mr. Boleyn said everyone should go eat lunch together. Let's go!"
Scarlett stopped, turned around, and politely declined with a smile. "Mr. Parker, I have something to do. I won't join you for the meal."
Ryder's gaze landed on her suitcase. "Where are you going?"
Just then, Ambrose and his group came out. Scarlett quickly stepped aside to let them pass, but he stopped as he passed her and said sarcastically, "Are you planning to camp out at the construction site?"
Scarlett wanted to snap back at him, but at this moment, countless eyes were on her. She could only say in a low voice, "Mr. Boleyn is overthinking it. It wouldn't be my turn to camp at the site anyway."
Ryder stepped forward then. "Mr. Boleyn, Ms. Mellon has something to do and won't be joining us for lunch."
Ambrose's gaze locked tightly on her. "What's so urgent that you can't even stop to eat?"
She didn't want to discuss personal matters with him, but in front of everyone, she couldn't react too strongly, so she said briefly, "A personal matter."
"Looking at Ms. Mellon like this, she must be going to have fun with her boyfriend, right?" Suddenly, an older executive jokingly chimed in.
Scarlett forced a stiff smile. "You're joking. I'm single."
As she spoke, her gaze swept over Ambrose. The scene of him losing it that night was still vivid in her mind. She didn't want to see him lose it again.
"With Ms. Mellon's talent and looks, I don't believe she's single," the executive said enthusiastically.
Scarlett glanced warily at Ambrose. Not seeing any emotion on his face, she quickly changed the subject.
"Mr. Boleyn, I won't disturb your lunch."
"You're in such a hurry?" Ambrose stared at her coolly, making Scarlett cautious.
She pressed her lips together, holding her suitcase, and abruptly met his gaze. For a moment, the air became tense, and the others suddenly sensed something unusual and looked at Scarlett.
"There was just a problem at the site, and you're still going out?" Ambrose's tone was light, but his natural authority was oppressive.
Scarlett met his gaze, guessing he'd misunderstood. Given the group of people present, she could only say, "Mr. Boleyn, I'm not going out to have fun. As for the problem earlier, I guarantee it won't happen again."
Ambrose ignored her and turned to the people behind him, saying lightly, "You all go ahead."
The group quickly nodded and hurried off, not daring to pry into their business.
At this point, Scarlett had to explain clearly to him, but she only said she was helping a friend. Ambrose was expressionless and looked very serious.
"You signed with the Boleyn Group. Even if it's helping a friend, it violates company rules. Don't you understand?"
Scarlett said, "Initially, I only agreed to take on the art museum. I never said I'd sign a contract."
"So you're saying I forced you?" There was a hint of tension in Ambrose's voice.
Scarlett took a breath and argued, "I didn't want to sign initially. You were the one who insisted I sign."
"Scarlett, are you a child? Someone tells you to sign, and you just sign?"
Scarlett regretted it now, but there was nothing she could do.
"You're helping a friend—I'm not that unreasonable. You can take it on, but I need to know which friend it is." Ambrose was persuasive.
Scarlett told Ambrose Soren's name and that he was Kenna's friend. Ambrose frowned. "Kenna's friend?"
As he spoke, he looked at her thoughtfully.
From his expression, Scarlett guessed he was thinking along different lines again.
"Kenna is Finnian's aunt. Are you helping Finnian?" His voice drew out very long, and the implication was obvious.
Scarlett held back her anger. "Finnian helped me. I'm returning the favor. It's only natural."
Ambrose nodded. "If that's what you mean, you should indeed return the favor. But are you sure there's no other reason for helping him?"
In the end, he was just suspicious about her relationship with Finnian. It was ridiculous—what right did he have to control her?
She wanted to snap at him, but if she lost her temper, she definitely wouldn't make it to Luminous City. She had to swallow her anger.
"Of course not."
"I'll trust you this once. You can go return the favor, but not today. These next couple of days, get the site issues sorted out first. Next Monday, I'll give you two days off."
Scarlett had already made plans with Soren, and Finnian had gone there too. If she changed the time, wouldn't that make them go for nothing?
