Chapter 190 Jealous
After Scarlett hugged Finnian, she watched him leave, then turned and walked toward the elevator. As she stepped inside, another figure followed her in. When she turned around and saw that face, she froze.
She hadn't seen him for quite a while since that night—hadn't even run into him once at the company.
Tonight, he showed up here. Was he looking for her?
Or was he here to pick up his things?
There were other people in the elevator, so no one spoke. Scarlett pressed the button for her floor and moved back into a corner, then fixed her gaze on the elevator wall.
Ambrose stood beside her, also looking at the elevator wall, which was a mirror. Their eyes met in the reflection.
In the mirror, his gaze was so heavy it could drip water, staring at Scarlett the whole time, looking angry and annoyed.
Scarlett held his gaze for a few seconds, then looked away dismissively, cold and indifferent, as if seeing a stranger.
The elevator stopped at her floor. When the doors opened, she stepped out, and Ambrose followed.
When they reached her door, she turned around, her expression cold. "You're here to get your things, right? Wait here, I'll bring them out to you."
Ambrose gave a light, mocking laugh. "In such a hurry to get rid of me? Afraid Finnian will get upset?"
Scarlett said nothing. She turned to open her door, but he grabbed her from behind.
"Are you together with Finnian?" His voice carried a threatening edge.
She was forced to turn around and said flatly, "Who I'm with is none of your business."
Her attitude made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him.
"You really think you can just break things off with me whenever you want?" He suddenly got aggressive, gripping her hand harder.
Scarlett frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said." Ambrose's face was cold. "Let me make this clear—there's no way we're done, and don't even think about dating other guys."
Scarlett shook off his hand, furious. "Ambrose, have some shame! We agreed on this from the start, and now you're going back on your word."
She paused. "If I'm not dating anyone, will you leave me alone?"
The way she saw it, Ambrose was just being prideful. A woman who'd been with him was quickly moving on to someone else, and it bothered him.
If she told him the truth, he'd stop pestering her.
"Not dating? Then what was that hug just now?" Ambrose didn't believe her, his face frighteningly dark.
Scarlett gestured helplessly. "That was just a friendly hug."
"Not to me. You're dating him. You broke things off with me because of Finnian, didn't you?" He was fixated, constantly pressing this topic.
Scarlett took a deep breath, trying to suppress her anger, but it didn't work. She yelled at him, "Are you sick or something?!"
"Why did I want to break things off? Don't you know? You're about to have an arranged marriage with Octavia. If we don't break up, what am I supposed to be, the other woman? Do you think I'm easy to push around?"
"There's no arranged marriage."
"I have eyes. I can see the news." After yelling, Scarlett turned to open her door, but Ambrose followed her inside.
"Get out." Scarlett reached out to push him, but the difference in strength between men and women was too great—she couldn't budge him at all.
Ambrose acted like a shameless person. Not only did he not leave, but he calmly went to the shoe cabinet, took out slippers, and started to change into them. Seeing this, Scarlett was so angry that she was breathing heavily.
"Can you please not do this!" She kept her voice down, not wanting to be too loud and wake Rhea and the child.
Ambrose acted as if he hadn't heard. He changed into the slippers and walked toward the living room. Scarlett didn't even bother changing her shoes and reached out to pull him back.
"It's late at night, and you're trespassing. I could call the police on you."
He grabbed her hand. "Then go ahead and call the police."
Seeing his indifferent attitude, Scarlett was so angry her teeth itched. "What exactly do you want?"
Ambrose reached out to hug her. "I'm not breaking up with you."
Scarlett pushed him away, furious. "Impossible. Stop pushing me too far."
Ambrose got angry too. "Why don't you say you're the one pushing too far? You keep saying you want to break up with me—you're the one pushing me. You're trying to push me to death."
Scarlett looked at him and let out a breath, exhausted.
"Ambrose, I really don't want to play these games with you people. I'm just a divorced single mother. You're in such good shape—there must be plenty of women better than me who'd want to be with you. Please, just let me go!"
Ambrose looked at her, his eyes darkening slightly. He knew that the more he pushed her, the worse things would get. He took a step back.
"I won't force you right now, but during this time, you can't date anyone."
"Can you agree to that?"
In the past, Scarlett wouldn't have bothered responding, but now she just wanted him to leave. Besides, she hadn't been planning to date anyone anyway, so she nodded in agreement.
"Fine."
"Then keep your distance from Finnian. I don't want to see you two having any intimate contact."
Scarlett's eyes were cold. "He's my senior. Our interactions are all normal."
"What's normal?"
Seeing him being so aggressive, Scarlett got angry and turned to leave. "I don't need to tell you the details. The point is, we're not dating. Believe it or not."
"Get out and close the door."
She decided to ignore him. The more you engaged with this type of person, the more they pushed their luck.
Back in her room, she leaned against the door, covered her face with both hands, and crouched down. She'd just gotten rid of Wesley, and now here was Ambrose. Ambrose was even harder to deal with, and no one could do anything about him.
What should she do?
If he really pushed too far, she'd go to Cody. He'd care about his reputation, wouldn't he?
Ambrose sat in the living room for a while, then got up and went to his room. Pushing the door open, he saw his suitcase placed in front of the wardrobe. He walked over and opened the wardrobe—all his clothes were gone. It looked like they'd been packed into the suitcase.
Was she that eager to get rid of him?
Thinking of the scene of her hugging Finnian earlier, his anger flared up again.
Despite his anger, Ambrose still didn't stay the night at Lakeside Garden. Though he wanted to, he was afraid that if he pushed her too hard, she might do something drastic.
Before leaving, he went to Yara's room. Watching Yara sleep like an angel, his anger subsided.
Fine. Scarlett had given birth to two children for him. He'd let her off the hook for now.
Before leaving, he called out at Scarlett's bedroom door.
"I'm leaving."
Scarlett was still crouched by the door. Hearing his voice, she didn't move. Only when she heard the sound of the door closing did she get up, open her bedroom door, and walk out. The guest room and living room were empty—he'd really left.
She took a deep breath.
She didn't know what had gotten into Ambrose tonight. If he went crazy again, she'd go to Cody.
