Chapter 184 Begin Preparing to Leave
"Is Ambrose planning to marry into the Octavia family?" Briar asked.
Scarlett collected herself, "Maybe!"
"I thought he had decent taste. Looks like I gave him too much credit." Briar smacked her lips, full of disdain.
"Look, Octavia can't open her water bottle and is handing it to Ambrose. Do you think Ambrose will open it for her?" Briar stared ahead with wide eyes, gripping Scarlett's sleeve tightly.
Scarlett glanced over, her expression blank. "It's pretty normal for Ambrose to open a water bottle for his son's mother."
Briar let out a cold laugh, then pulled her away.
"Come on, let's go watch the performance. Why are we watching them?"
Scarlett followed Briar to watch the performance. Although she was the designer, she wasn't a key figure at the groundbreaking ceremony, so she was quite free.
While Scarlett was watching the performance with Briar, though she wasn't very interested, her phone vibrated in her pocket just as she was getting absorbed.
Feeling it, she pulled out her phone. Seeing the number, she turned to Briar.
"I need to take a call."
Briar nodded. Scarlett walked out of the crowd, and only after getting some distance away did she press the answer button.
"Mr. Philip."
It was Orion calling.
"Scarlett, I was looking for you earlier, but didn't see you. Come to my house on Saturday, I need to talk to you about something."
"Okay."
Last time they had planned for her to visit Orion's house, but because of the Serene Bay Peninsula situation, she had avoided going to prevent any suspicion, and hadn't gone until now.
"Mr. Philip, have you left the site?" Scarlett wanted to see Orion.
They hadn't talked much at the groundbreaking ceremony earlier.
"I've left. We'll see each other when you come to the house!"
The call ended shortly after. Scarlett held her phone and looked back at the crowd, feeling quite bored. Although the groundbreaking ceremony was held, actual construction wouldn't start until tomorrow, so she called Ryder.
"Mr. Parker, there's nothing else at the site, right?"
"Ms. Mellon, there's really nothing after the performance ends, but there's a meal later that you can't miss." Ryder said.
Scarlett didn't want to attend, but she couldn't refuse work obligations, so she said, "I'll go directly to the dining location. I have something to take care of now, so I'm leaving first."
"Wait a moment, let me check with Mr. Boleyn."
Scarlett felt helpless but had to wait. However, after just over ten seconds, Ryder came back with a response.
"Ms. Mellon, if you have something to handle, go ahead, but you must be there for the meal."
After getting the answer, Scarlett hung up and ran to find Briar, pulling her to leave together. But just as they were about to go, the acrobatic performance team suddenly approached them, circling around Scarlett. Scarlett was blocked and felt a bit unhappy, but in this setting, she couldn't show her displeasure.
People in the crowd were shouting.
Scarlett just watched them keep circling her, unable to take a step.
Fortunately, they didn't circle for too long—about a minute—before leaving. Scarlett had just breathed a sigh of relief when she heard a voice.
"Scarlett, you really are charming. Everyone revolves around you."
Without needing to look, she knew who it was from the voice. Scarlett didn't want to deal with her, but since she was coming over to pick a fight, that was another matter.
"Of course, Scarlett is charming. She was the campus beauty at Celestial University, something you as a loser could never match." Briar shot back sarcastically.
"I really can't compete with that title, but I don't need to compare that. I now have a smart son and a handsome father for my son. Why would I compare myself to a divorced single mother?"
Every sentence from Octavia oozed superiority, pointing out just how down and out Scarlett was now.
Briar instantly flared up with anger. "You're shameless. Has Ambrose married you?"
Octavia smiled. "Whether he marries me or not doesn't matter. What matters is we have a son together, and now we're both making sacrifices for our son."
Briar wanted to curse, but Scarlett grabbed her hand and said, "If you're so happy, why are you showing off here? I think you're worried—worried that another woman will steal your son's handsome father."
Scarlett's words instantly exposed what Octavia was really thinking.
"You're overthinking it." Octavia could only manage that one sentence and couldn't say anything else.
Briar, standing beside them, saw through Octavia's game and laughed lightly, "That's exactly what you're thinking. You're afraid of Scarlett. Otherwise, why would you come over here?"
"I just came over to say hello. After all, we went to the same school."
"Not needed." Briar spat.
Scarlett added, "Octavia, if you want to hold onto Ambrose, then marry him quickly instead of coming to find me. Finding me is useless because no matter how I try to get him to leave, he won't go. Also, he still has lots of clothes at my place. Should I pack them up and have him come get them?"
Scarlett's move was a harsh mockery of Octavia.
She revealed the fact that she and Ambrose were living together, and that Ambrose didn't want to move out—she was the troubled one.
Without caring about Octavia's expression, Scarlett pulled Briar away.
After getting in the car, Briar laughed happily. "You didn't see Octavia's face just now—it was so ugly! That felt so good."
Scarlett drove, eyes focused ahead, expressionless. Briar noticed and stopped being cheerful, turning to look at her.
"You're uncomfortable, aren't you?"
"I am uncomfortable, because I'm afraid Ambrose won't let go. If he wants both women at once, I don't have the power to resist."
Scarlett's words reminded Briar that with Ambrose's capabilities, if he didn't want to let a woman go, no one could do anything about it.
"Ambrose is marrying into the Mitchell family, but doesn't want to let you go. This really is a difficult problem." Briar couldn't feel happy anymore either.
Scarlett's expression was serious but still relatively calm. She knew she and Ambrose wouldn't have a good ending, but she hadn't expected it to be this kind of ending.
"Scarlett, what should we do?" Briar looked at her with concern.
"It's fine. There's one person who can control Ambrose. Even if he can't deal with Ambrose, he'll help me leave." Scarlett said confidently.
"Who?"
She glanced at Briar. "Cody Boleyn."
She then recounted what Cody had said to her that day. After hearing it, Briar felt both angry and annoyed.
Scarlett wasn't annoyed. She just felt lucky because there was still Cody who could help her.
At lunch, Scarlett acted as if nothing had happened, still smiling, completely like nothing was wrong. When Ambrose came up to talk to her, her tone was the same as usual.
Ulysses was also there. During the meal, he told her he could give her the evidence at noon. He had booked a room at the Four Seasons Hotel.
