Chapter 175 Two Women Sitting in One Car
Ambrose glanced at Octavia briefly, didn't respond, and shifted his cold gaze to Hayden.
Like Yara, Hayden was allergic to mangoes. The thing was, Hayden knew perfectly well what he was allergic to, yet he still ended up like this—clearly, he'd eaten it on purpose.
Ambrose stared at Hayden with a darkening expression. After staring for quite a while, he demanded sternly, "You know you can't eat mangoes. Why did you end up like this?"
Hayden stared back with wide eyes, looking like a little wolf cub—innocent yet fierce. His little mouth was pressed tight, saying nothing.
Ambrose was so frustrated that he put his hands on his hips, but there was nothing he could do. Seeing this, Octavia immediately put on an act of being a caring mother.
"He's still young. How can he remember what he can and can't eat? We need to teach him again."
Ambrose suddenly turned to look at Octavia, his eyes cold and mocking. He said nothing, but the disdain in his eyes was clear.
Octavia felt uncomfortable, but the gentle expression on her face didn't fade. She said, "I've been studying how to get along with children these past few years. Experts say the more you push a child, the more he'll resist inside, so we can't push Hayden."
Ambrose let out a light snort. "There are too many fake experts these days."
Octavia couldn't tell if that was praise or criticism, so she just smiled. "Anyway, no matter what, he's still young. We'll take it slow."
If Ambrose didn't know the truth, he might think this came from maternal love. But now that she was saying this, it was basically setting Hayden up for failure.
Ambrose's face turned cold on the spot, and he warned sternly, "If you want to spend more time with Hayden, I won't stop you. But don't tell me how to raise him."
Disgust and wariness, all present.
Octavia's face froze immediately. Then she lowered her head, pretending to be hurt, and said pitifully, "How am I telling you what to do? I just feel bad for him. What mother can stand watching her child get scolded?"
Ambrose didn't even glance at this fake performance. He just asked Hayden, "Are you coming back with me or staying with her?"
Hayden seemed itchy and raised his hand to scratch. Seeing this, Ambrose immediately held his hand down.
"Let's go home."
Octavia quickly reminded him, "You haven't gotten the medicine yet."
Ambrose narrowed his eyes and looked at her coldly, but said nothing. He turned and went to the pharmacy to get the medicine.
Actually, Hayden had his own doctor, but since Octavia had brought him to the hospital, they had no choice but to get the medicine here.
Scarlett lay in the hospital bed, her mind in chaos. The image of Zane rushing over, determined to die together, kept replaying in her head. The Ross family had gone crazy.
Sometimes she didn't want to push things to the extreme, but Wesley had broken the law himself. She couldn't help him. What was she supposed to do?
While Scarlett was worrying, a nurse came to remove her IV. After removing it, the nurse reminded her, "The anti-inflammatory drip is done. Don't get your hand wet."
Scarlett asked, "Can I go home?"
"Technically yes, but since you already got a bed, you might as well stay, so you don't have to go back and forth. You'll need another anti-inflammatory drip tomorrow."
The nurse's words made Scarlett want to go home even more. She hadn't brought any change of clothes, and she couldn't sleep here anyway, so she immediately applied to go home.
Coming out of the ward, the bodyguards Ambrose had sent came up to her. "Ms. Mellon, where are you going?"
Scarlett looked at the bodyguards in front of her and said politely, "I'm going home."
"We'll take you back," one of them said.
Scarlett didn't refuse. She walked toward the elevator with the two men. When they got down to the first floor and passed by the pharmacy, somehow her eyes caught sight of a man in the crowd who stood out from everyone else—the most eye-catching and handsome man there.
She stopped, looked carefully, and sure enough, it was Ambrose. Then she also saw Octavia with Hayden beside them.
The picture of a family of three appeared right before her eyes. She'd imagined it that afternoon, but seeing it in reality brought a different feeling. For some reason, her eyes stung a little.
The Mitchell family was powerful now. If Ambrose's career joined forces with the Mitchell family through marriage, it would be like adding wings to a tiger. And they had a child together.
"Ms. Mellon, I'll go tell Mr. Boleyn," suddenly one of the bodyguards stepped forward.
Scarlett snapped back to reality and waved her hand. "No need. Let's go!"
With that, she looked away and walked toward the main entrance. One bodyguard went to get the car while the other stayed with Scarlett at the entrance.
Scarlett didn't want to wait at the entrance, afraid Ambrose would run into her when he came out. She suggested walking to the parking lot with the bodyguard, so the two of them headed toward the parking area.
Scarlett had only taken a few steps when, unaware, a figure was already chasing after her from behind. In a few strides, the figure caught up.
"You're going home?"
Scarlett stopped and turned around. Under the dim streetlight, Ambrose's face was shadowy and unclear, shifting between real and unreal. She was stunned for a few seconds before saying, "I'll be more comfortable at home."
He reached out to take her hand. "Then I'll take you back."
Scarlett smiled. "It's okay, you handle your business. They can take me."
Ambrose didn't let go. "I don't have anything to handle."
With that, he pulled her forward. Scarlett had no choice but to follow his steps.
The two walked back to the hospital entrance, where Octavia and Hayden were waiting. Scarlett didn't look at Octavia, but her gaze fell on Hayden.
Hayden's face was all red, but his eyes were on Scarlett. Although his gaze still carried an unmistakable dislike, he looked at her a bit longer.
"Is Hayden sick?" She asked.
"Yes, he ate something he's allergic to," Ambrose said quietly.
As they spoke, they reached the others, and then Ambrose's car pulled up. After the car stopped, Ambrose had Scarlett and Hayden get in.
"The family driver brought me here, but he already went back," Octavia said.
Ambrose was silent for a moment, then said, "Get in."
After hearing this, Octavia smiled, opened the car door, and got into the back seat as well.
Scarlett sat on the right, Octavia on the left, with Hayden in between. The atmosphere instantly turned cold.
