Chapter 173 Murder with a Knife
Scarlett dodged to the side, avoiding Zane's attempt to kneel, and dropped her cold expression.
"Using this trick to force me won't work. No one can help with Wesley's situation."
Zane shook his head, "If Ambrose hadn't gone after him, nothing would have happened to him."
"Whenever something happens to your family, you never reflect on yourselves. You always blame others for everything. That's why Wesley ended up like this," Scarlett said coldly.
Zane glared at Scarlett viciously, pointing his finger at her. "It's all because of you. If Wesley hadn't married you, he wouldn't be in this mess. Now you want to shirk responsibility? No way. If you don't agree to get Wesley out safely, I'll bash my head against the wall right here."
Scarlett was so fed up. These accusations never stopped. What did she owe the Ross family from her past life?
"He tricked me into marrying him back then, and now that something's happened, you're blaming me? I've never seen such a shameless family." Scarlett was exhausted and didn't want to talk to him anymore. After saying this, she took out her phone and called property management, saying a stranger had appeared and was bothering her.
The property management said they would send someone up to escort him out.
After hanging up, she coldly dropped a line, "Your harassment won't work. Wesley's crimes have nothing to do with me."
With that, she started to walk away. Seeing this, Zane got up from the ground, pulled out a knife from behind, and rushed at her. By the time Scarlett noticed the knife in his hand, it was too late, but she still tried to turn her body. With this turn, the knife stabbed into her hand.
"You ruined my son. I won't let you live either. I'll kill you." After stabbing once, Zane wanted to stab again, but Scarlett blocked with her bag and pushed him hard.
Just then, a resident passed by and, seeing what was happening, rushed over shouting, "Stop!"
Zane's body was already weak, so he was quickly restrained. When property management arrived, Scarlett's hand was bleeding heavily, and she was quickly sent to the hospital for treatment.
Ambrose soon learned about Scarlett's injury. When he arrived at the hospital, Scarlett had already been bandaged up. Because the wound was too deep, the hospital wanted her to stay for observation.
Ambrose pushed open the hospital room door with a serious expression and walked in quickly, his tone urgent.
"Is it serious?"
Seeing him, Scarlett's mind flashed to the image of Octavia taking Hayden to the Boleyn Group. After two seconds of silence, she said calmly, "A few stitches."
Ambrose hurriedly crouched down and looked at the bandaged hand for a long while before saying, "Zane actually stabbed someone with a knife. He really doesn't want to live."
His words carried heavy murderous intent, but Scarlett replied flatly, "I'll handle this myself."
Ambrose was stunned for two seconds. Seeing her eyes showed no emotion, he couldn't quite understand what she meant. He didn't want to argue about this, so instead he said, "You haven't had dinner, right?"
"Not too hungry yet."
"I'll have someone bring food. Even if you're not hungry, you need to eat something." After saying this, Ambrose stood up and took out his phone to make a call in front of her.
Scarlett watched his back, lost in thought. After finishing the call, Ambrose noticed her spacing out and pulled over a chair to sit nearby.
"I'm fine now, you can go do what you need to do." Scarlett looked up at him when she heard the movement.
Ambrose didn't respond, just stared at her, his gaze examining. "Sending me away?"
She smiled lightly, "Actually, I only injured one hand, not any vital parts. I can go home by myself."
Her pale face showed a smile that didn't reach her eyes. Ambrose sensed something was wrong, narrowed his eyes, "Are you mad at Hayden, or mad at me?"
Scarlett understood what he meant. He was referring to her running into Hayden and Octavia after work. She said calmly, "Why would I be mad at Hayden? It's perfectly normal for him to be with his mother. That's what I want to see. As for being mad at you, I don't know what you're referring to."
"Octavia came to see me, you're not angry?" He asked.
Scarlett looked down and smiled. If she said she wasn't angry, he wouldn't believe it, but if she said she was angry, that wasn't her true feeling either. At most, she felt a bit uncomfortable, but angry? Not really.
"I'm not angry, just a bit uncomfortable," she said.
Hearing this, Ambrose smiled, "She came to see me, I had no idea. Don't overthink it."
Just then, Scarlett's phone on the table rang, breaking the atmosphere of their conversation. She glanced over and saw it was Rhea calling.
She picked up the phone and answered, "Rhea, I won't be home for dinner tonight. You and Yara go ahead and eat."
Scarlett then told Rhea to lock the doors and that she wouldn't be coming back that night, then hung up.
After this call, they didn't continue their previous conversation. Ambrose then left the room to take a call.
Scarlett sat on the bed in a daze, thinking about the look in Zane's eyes when he tried to kill her. It seemed the Ross family wouldn't give up until it was a fight to the death.
Even though Zane was now in detention, there was still Opal. How long could she keep defending herself?
Scarlett had a huge headache thinking about how to handle the Ross family situation.
Ambrose was taking a call in the hallway. It was Chase calling. Chase explained on the phone, "The people assigned to protect Ms. Mellon didn't follow her upstairs in time. I'll make sure they're more strict about this in the future."
"Follow her at all times until she gets home. They failed in their duty this time, you deal with it." Ambrose's voice was as cold as ice.
"I'll handle it."
"Also, find out how Zane got into Lakeside Garden."
Lakeside Garden's security had always been very strict. No one could get in without someone letting them in.
After instructing Chase, Ambrose was about to return to the room when Ruben called. Ambrose answered, "What is it?"
"Ambrose, Ulysses has been making big moves these past two days. The situation is a bit complicated. Let's meet up, I'll explain in detail when we meet."
Hearing about Ulysses, which was a top-priority matter, Ambrose agreed.
"Alright, meet at the usual place."
