Chapter 163 She Can't Escape
Ambrose stared at Scarlett, "I didn't do anything!"
"What you did at the dinner table just now, didn't that embarrass Finnian? And why did you suddenly show up at my friend's birthday party?"
Scarlett scolded him. She was angry.
Ruben bringing wine for Briar's birthday was just an excuse for Ambrose to come to the party.
Ambrose raised his hand and touched his nose. Seeing that she'd seen through him, he stopped hiding it and said with a grin, "Since you know, then you know what I'm after."
"What do I know? Finnian and I have a pure friendship, nothing dirty like you're thinking. Besides, we agreed to keep our relationship secret. What you're doing now, isn't that basically announcing it to the world?" Scarlett was angry.
She didn't want their situation to become public knowledge and cause more trouble, especially when there was no future between them.
Ambrose stared straight at her and asked, "I do want to announce it to the world. Would you be willing?"
Scarlett frowned. "We agreed not to go public."
Seeing her expression getting darker, Ambrose had to play pitiful to gain sympathy, saying dejectedly, "I feel insecure."
When he said this, Scarlett thought she'd heard wrong. She turned her head and asked, "What?"
Ambrose looked up, his eyes darker than usual. "I feel insecure." After a few seconds, he added another sentence.
"Given our current relationship, you're constantly thinking about cutting ties with me, which shows you have other plans. I feel insecure."
Scarlett was shocked that Ambrose, such a high and mighty man, would tell her he felt insecure. This was a bit ridiculous.
"Aren't you embarrassed saying something like that?"
Ambrose raised his eyebrows, looking cocky. "What's embarrassing about it? I'm just being honest."
Scarlett didn't want to argue about this. Her eyes flashed with anger, "Stop following me, or else I'll..." She paused, not sure if she should say it out loud, but he kept staring at her, pressing for an answer.
"Or else what?"
"Or else I'll cut ties with you." Scarlett straightened her back to appear intimidating.
Ambrose's face immediately darkened, his tone gloomy, "You say that so easily. Do you want to cut ties that badly?"
Scarlett looked at his expression and felt a bit scared, mumbling, "Our relationship is just a transaction. You really don't need to be like this."
After a two-second pause, she added another sentence.
"That's what we agreed on from the start."
Ambrose's face was dark as he tugged at his collar button and gave a light scoff, clearly angry. Scarlett didn't want to deal with it and just said, "Don't follow me anymore. I have another birthday party to go to."
After saying this, she reached for the car door, but it wouldn't open no matter what. She turned her head.
"Open the door."
Ambrose was silent, looking at her with frighteningly dark eyes. "Do I embarrass you that much?"
She took a deep breath. "You know that's not what I mean. If our relationship is discovered, all my efforts will be wasted, and people will say you're promiscuous and not serious about business."
"With your abilities, who would dare question you? As for me, I don't care about those things." Ambrose's tone was casual.
"This society only looks at the surface. There are already many rumors about me at the company," Scarlett said.
Ambrose had heard some of the company rumors. He could control one person, but not a whole group.
"Open the door!"
Seeing that she insisted on getting out, Ambrose was angry but couldn't take it out on her. Finally, he let her out.
Watching her walk away, Ambrose lit a cigarette. Holding it between his fingers, he sat sullenly in the driver's seat. Once the DNA test results came out, she wouldn't be able to escape.
Scarlett and Briar left because Briar had booked a private room at the Evergreen Club, ready to party hard.
The room was big enough for a dozen people to have fun—some singing, some playing games, and others chatting. Scarlett sat there chatting too.
Finnian looked at Scarlett and leaned close to her ear, "Is Ambrose bothering you?"
Scarlett froze for a moment, then smiled to cover it up. "It's not what you think."
She was at a loss for words, not knowing how to explain the earlier situation. "Anyway, there's nothing between him and me."
The explanation wasn't convincing. Seeing that she didn't want to talk about it, Finnian didn't want to make things awkward for her, so he stopped asking and said instead, "If he's bothering you, I can help you get rid of him."
Scarlett smiled at Finnian's thoughtfulness. He'd helped her so much already. "Thank you."
Finnian looked at her with restraint. Tonight, he'd intended to give Scarlett the painting "Guard" and confess his feelings, but now it seemed it wasn't the right time yet.
Scarlett took her phone and left the private room, walking to a quiet spot before answering.
The call was from Cleo. She'd resigned from the Ross Group and got hired as a designer at the Boleyn Group, starting next Monday.
Scarlett was very happy. They'd be working together again.
After talking for a while, Scarlett hung up and turned to walk back toward the private room. But after just a few steps, someone bumped into her head-on, and her back hit the wall.
"Don't you watch where you're going?" A rough voice shouted.
The voice was so loud it made Scarlett shrink back. She looked up to see a face that clearly showed signs of excessive indulgence.
Beau looked at her, his eyes lighting up as if he'd seen a delicious meal.
Scarlett felt uncomfortable all over and coldly shot back, "Are you the only one with eyes?"
Beau pressed forward unreasonably. "You bumped into me, and you're being fierce about it?"
She backed away defensively. "Get out of the way."
"Have a drink with me as an apology." As he spoke, he reached to grab her.
Scarlett couldn't escape. She cried out for help, but it couldn't reach Briar's room. She was pulled and dragged into a private room.
The room was full of people who stared at Scarlett like wolves when they saw her.
"We've got a gorgeous beauty here. Let's all enjoy her together." Beau laughed as he pulled her to the center of the room before letting go.
Scarlett was scared. These people's eyes were glazed over with a crazed look, as if they'd taken drugs. She backed away, turned, and ran toward the door, but after just a few steps, someone blocked her way.
"Keep running." The men in front of her laughed lewdly.
Scarlett had been gone for a long time without returning. Finnian got up and went out to look for her. After searching around without finding her, he had Briar check the restroom—she wasn't there either. Her phone went unanswered.
Guessing something had happened, Finnian immediately pulled out his phone and hacked into the floor's security system. After seeing the footage, he immediately rushed to the private room where Scarlett had been dragged.
When Finnian burst in, he saw Scarlett holding a broken bottle to fend off a man lunging at her. Finnian's eyes turned bloodshot as he rushed forward and beat up each of the men.
Screams of pain filled the room.
Ambrose returned to Silver Oak Heights. Both kids were already asleep. After asking Kai about how the children had been during the day, he went back to his bedroom.
He'd just finished showering and walked out of the bathroom when Chase called.
"Mr. Boleyn, Ms. Mellon is in trouble. It was the Mitchell family who did it."
