Chapter 159 I Am a Dog, Your Dog
Only after Scarlett called out did she realize what was happening. She quickly covered her mouth, then glared at Ambrose above her, who was causing trouble. Her other hand reached to hang up the phone, but Ambrose snatched it away.
She stared at him wide-eyed, shaking her head, signaling him not to mess around.
"Scarlett, what's wrong?" Finnian pressed from the other end.
Ambrose's lips curved into a mischievous smile. He covered the phone and said to her.
"Answer him."
Scarlett knew full well he was being jealous. In this situation, she didn't dare provoke him, so she coughed lightly twice, then responded to the phone.
"My dog bumped into me."
As soon as she said that, Ambrose, whom she'd just called a dog, actually went along with what she said. Scarlett's eyes flew wide open on the spot. She took a deep breath to keep from cursing.
"Do you need me to pick you up?" The voice on the phone pressed urgently.
After composing herself, she replied, "Finnian, no need to pick me up. I still have some things to do. Let's talk when we meet."
There were two seconds of silence before she heard a response, "See you tonight then."
Then she heard the dial tone—he'd hung up. Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief, lifted her eyes, and scolded angrily.
"What are you doing?"
The corners of her eyes were crimson, moisture gathering at the edges, her glare both watery and alluring. Without realizing it, her angry rebuke came across as a playful complaint.
Ambrose looked down at her, his deep eyes growing darker and darker. His thin lips parted, releasing a harsh tone.
"I'm a dog?"
Seeing he cared about this label, Scarlett found it funny and laughed mockingly, "Are you a dog or not, don't you know in your heart?"
Ambrose thought his behavior really was quite dog-like, and laughed too. "Fine, I'm a dog. I'm your dog."
With that, he began to show off his masculine charm.
Looking at Scarlett's flushed face, he started being bad again, lowering his head to kiss her lips. After the kiss, he asked roguishly.
"Do you like me?"
Scarlett's eyes were watery, reflecting his disheveled yet handsome face. Her kiss-red lips pressed tightly together, refusing to answer him.
Ambrose pestered her, forcing the question, "Don't like me?"
Looking at Ambrose's wickedly cunning face, Scarlett knew he just wanted her to submit. But Ambrose was the type who'd get worse the more you gave in to him.
She smiled and said, "Something like liking..."
Ambrose grinned roguishly, knowing she was deliberately trying to torment him, so he stopped pressing her.
Without the kids around, Ambrose was particularly energetic, as if bringing out all his bad behavior.
When everything finally calmed down, he held her and pressed again, "Do you like me?"
Scarlett was exhausted and had to say, "A little bit, I guess!"
Hearing this, though Ambrose wasn't completely satisfied, a little bit of liking was better than none at all. She'd like him more in the future. So he let her off.
Ambrose held her and asked, "Where are you having dinner tonight?"
Scarlett was too tired to talk, but hearing his question, she still spoke.
"Culinary Haven."
Ambrose looked thoughtful, then said, "Take my car there later."
It was almost five o'clock. Scarlett wanted to sleep more while she could. Hearing him keep chattering, she said with annoyance.
"Talk about it later. I want to sleep now."
The rejected Ambrose fell silent.
But he still held her contentedly, letting her rest for a while so she'd have energy to go to dinner together tonight.
While these two enjoyed their time together at Lakeside Garden, the two children at Silver Oak Heights were chasing a snow-white dog around the garden.
The dog was pure white and very beautiful. Ambrose had bought it to keep Hayden company. Hayden called it Polar.
Polar was a white sled dog, fierce-looking but gentle in nature.
Hayden loved it. Sometimes it would pull Hayden around the garden. Today, with Yara there, Hayden had it pull Yara instead.
Yara squealed happily, "Polar, slow down."
But the more she called out, the faster Polar ran. Seeing this, Hayden commanded in a low voice, "Polar, slow down."
Sure enough, Polar slowed down. Yara found it amazing.
When Cody walked into Silver Oak Heights, he saw the two children playing wildly.
Yara was covered in sweat, fine hair stuck to her forehead, her face flushed pink—so adorable he couldn't look away.
Cody's gaze stuck to Yara's face, sighing inwardly, too similar.
"Mr. Cody Boleyn, what brings you here?" Butler Kai quickly stepped forward, greeting Cody respectfully.
"I came to take a look." Cody still didn't shift his gaze.
Seeing Cody staring at Yara, Kai quickly explained, "That little girl is here to keep Hayden company."
Cody didn't respond, but showed no sign of leaving either. Seeing this, Kai suggested, "Mr. Cody Boleyn, it's hot out here. Would you like to go inside?"
"I'll just sit in the garden pavilion."
Cody walked toward the pavilion. Kai had someone bring coffee and snacks. While the servants attended to him, Kai snuck off to call Ambrose.
When Ambrose got the call, he'd just woken from a nap. Not wanting to wake Scarlett, he took his phone and left the bedroom, learning that Cody had gone to Silver Oak Heights.
Cody wouldn't go to Silver Oak Heights without reason, so he picked up his phone and called Cody.
Cody's phone was held by his bodyguard, who handed it over saying.
"Mr. Ambrose Boleyn's call."
Cody took it and put it to his ear. Ambrose's voice came through.
"Why did you go to Silver Oak Heights today?"
Cody naturally knew Ambrose wasn't welcoming him, but didn't take offense. Instead, he said, "Are you now taking care of kids for the Mellon family's Scarlett?"
"Grandpa, this is all your fault. After you talked to her, she wanted to kick my son and me out. But Hayden absolutely refused, so she let Yara keep Hayden company. In a couple of days, she's taking her daughter away too. Who knows how Hayden will act then?"
Cody was silent for a few seconds before asking, "Who is this little girl's father?"
Ambrose narrowed his eyes. "Grandpa, why are you asking about this?"
