Chapter 156 How Can It Be So Similar
Seeing that the other party had backed down a step, Cody figured Hayden would have to meet his mother sooner or later anyway. Since Indigo had suggested it, they might as well go along with his plan.
Cody turned to look at Ambrose. "Ambrose, since Mr. Mitchell wants to meet the child, bring Hayden over and let them meet."
Ambrose didn't refuse. He took out his phone and called Chase, asking him to bring Hayden to the Four Seasons Hotel.
While waiting for Hayden to arrive, Ambrose took his phone and left the private room to take a call. Yara wanted to come along with Hayden.
With the child making a fuss, Chase ended up bringing Yara along too. After hanging up, Ambrose waited for the two children on the first floor of the Four Seasons Hotel, then had Chase take Hayden to the private room while he stayed with Yara.
Knowing he was going to see Octavia, Hayden said to Ambrose in the elevator, "I'm not going."
Ambrose looked down at him. "You have to go. Just meet her once, and then I'll take you home."
Hayden was silent for two seconds. "Then you and Yara come with me. I don't want to go alone."
"Your great-grandfather is there too. What are you worried about?"
But Hayden refused to go alone, no matter what. Left with no choice, Ambrose had Chase take Yara to eat in another room while he took Hayden over.
Yara was quite well-behaved and left with Chase.
Ambrose then brought Hayden to the private room. As soon as Hayden entered, his bright eyes swept around. Seeing Octavia, he showed no reaction, his gaze sliding past her to land on the Indigo couple before moving on.
Hayden walked up to Cody and called out in a sweet childlike voice, "Great-grandfather."
"Hayden's here, sit down." Cody's face was full of affection.
Hayden was quite obedient and was about to sit down next to Cody when he heard Octavia call out.
"Hayden, come sit by me."
Hayden looked at her expressionlessly and shook his head. "I'll sit here."
Octavia suddenly stood up, rushed over to Hayden, and crouched down. "Hayden, I'm your mom. Don't you remember me?"
Hayden looked at her without speaking. Seeing this, Octavia asked sadly.
"Are you mad at me because I haven't come to see you for so long?"
He still didn't speak, just stood there. Ambrose, who had walked over, spoke up.
"You can sit wherever you want."
Hayden looked up. "Then I'll sit next to you."
"Sure."
The father and son's conversation made it clear to everyone present that Hayden was unwilling to talk to Octavia but was willing to talk to Cody and Ambrose.
This hit Octavia hard in the heart. She suddenly started crying again. Unable to bear watching, Phaedra also walked over.
"You're Hayden, right? What a handsome little boy. I'm your mother's mother, which makes me your grandmother. Hello."
Hayden just glanced at Phaedra coolly without calling her anything, showing a very cold attitude.
Sitting there, Indigo quickly said, "Don't scare the child. Come sit down."
Phaedra got up and pulled Octavia back to their seats. Only then did Hayden sit down next to Ambrose. After sitting, he just glanced once before looking away.
Once everyone was seated, the food started arriving.
After the dishes were served, Octavia tried to serve Hayden some food, but Hayden shook his head and refused. Ambrose explained, "He doesn't like that dish."
Octavia had never tried to understand Hayden and had no idea what he liked. She was just eager to please him, but it backfired.
"Octavia, just eat your own food. Things will get better once the child gets to know you," Indigo said.
Looking at Hayden before him, he could say the boy was a miniature version of Ambrose—good-looking with an aristocratic air. He wouldn't be any worse than Ambrose in the future.
During the meal, Hayden remained silent with elegant manners. They couldn't find any fault with him to use against the Boleyn family.
Indigo wanted to get close to the child, but Hayden wouldn't talk. Seeing the child's whole body radiating rejection, he was at a loss, and all the things he had planned to say were useless.
In the end, Indigo couldn't bring up anything more. Octavia kept trying to get close to Hayden but kept hitting walls because Hayden was very cold toward his mother of his.
Cody watched Hayden's reactions with great satisfaction. As expected of a child he had raised, Hayden knew who to be close to.
Ambrose remained unusually calm. During the meal, he didn't pay much attention to Hayden and just ate his own food, yet Hayden was still closer to him.
Because after Hayden finished eating, he said to him, "Dad, I'm done eating. Can I go find Yara now?"
Ambrose nodded. "Yes, but before you leave, say something to your mom and your grandparents."
After hearing this, Hayden frowned but still said to them.
"Goodbye."
After hearing this, the three members of the Mitchell family felt very uncomfortable. Hayden hadn't called them anything and only said goodbye at the end, which meant he didn't want to see them.
Ambrose got up and took Hayden to find Yara. Octavia also stood up and followed them out. Catching up with them outside, Octavia stepped forward and hugged Hayden.
"Hayden, Mom knows she hasn't spent enough time with you before. I'll spend more time with you from now on. Give me a chance, okay?"
Hayden wasn't used to being touched by her and pushed Octavia away hard. "Don't need it."
Unprepared, Octavia fell to the ground, looking at Hayden in disbelief. Hayden's eyes were cold. "I'm fine now."
After saying that, he turned to Ambrose and said, "Dad, let's go!"
Ambrose looked at Octavia coldly, then left with Hayden. Sitting on the ground, Octavia watched the father and son's backs, her eyes flashing with a vicious light.
Ambrose didn't go back. After Yara finished eating, he took both children back to Silver Oak Heights.
When they reached the first floor of the Four Seasons Hotel, Ambrose was holding Yara's hand while Hayden walked beside him, attracting attention.
"Yara!" Suddenly, a voice rang out.
Yara turned her head and saw Briar. She immediately grinned and called out, "Briar."
"It really is you, Yara." Briar ran up and picked her up.
Then Briar asked Yara what she was doing here, and Yara told her about Ambrose bringing her to eat.
Learning that Scarlett was on a business trip, Briar was puzzled—Scarlett hadn't mentioned it on the phone last night—but she didn't think much of it. After talking with Yara for a while, she handed her back to Ambrose.
"Ambrose, whose child is this?" A question came from behind.
It was Cody's voice. Everyone turned to look at Cody, especially Yara, who stared at Cody with wide eyes.
When Cody saw Yara, he was completely stunned.
"Great-grandfather, this is the Yara I told you about." Hayden answered for Ambrose.
Cody snapped out of it, but his eyes remained fixed on Yara's face, murmuring softly, "Yara?"
How could she look so similar?
Behind them, Octavia saw Yara and narrowed her delicate eyes. Scarlett's daughter, yet Ambrose was taking care of her?
