Chapter 155 Preemptive Strike, a Hard Slap in the Face
The Mitchell family arrived with the Indigo couple and Octavia, while the Boleyn family was represented by only Cody and Ambrose.
There weren't many people, but they were all key figures who mattered.
Ambrose walked in, his whole presence radiating mature and sharp energy. His tall, slender figure approached Cody, and he called out in a low voice, "Grandpa."
Cody gave him a cold glance. Though still upset, he had to restrain himself in this setting.
"Sit down."
Before sitting, Ambrose looked at Indigo and nodded as a greeting. After all, given his position, he couldn't just ignore him.
Indigo looked him up and down, and after Ambrose sat down, said seriously, "Mr. Boleyn is talented and accomplished at such a young age. No wonder my Octavia has been in love with you for years."
From the outset, Indigo demonstrated goodwill, with no hint of wanting to settle scores.
But Ambrose wasn't the type to accept friendliness just because it was offered. He said coolly, "Many women admire me, but none have Ms. Mitchell's methods."
These words dropped like a bomb on calm water, splashing everywhere. Octavia's face turned ugly, her head lowered as tears began to fall. Phaedra, sitting beside her, couldn't stand it and spoke sternly.
"Mr. Boleyn, Octavia gave birth to your son and kept it hidden all this time for your sake. How can you say such things about her?"
Ambrose's eyes swept over coldly. "Before saying all this, I'd like to ask Ms. Mitchell how she got into my room that night, and how it just happened to be when I wasn't in my right mind."
Ambrose's preemptive strike instantly turned the situation around.
Called out, Octavia knew she couldn't escape. She wiped her eyes and looked up, saying, "I explained this before. I was drunk and went to the wrong room. Didn't you check? My room was just two doors down."
Ambrose's voice came as his fingers tapped the table. "Wrong door? So you're saying it wasn't intentional. If that's the case, then when you found out you were pregnant, you shouldn't have hidden it and had the child. After all, it was a mistake, irresponsible to everyone. You said you couldn't have an abortion due to health reasons, but if your health was so bad, wouldn't giving birth be even more dangerous?"
Ambrose's questioning left Octavia speechless. She anxiously grabbed Phaedra's hand, tears falling again as she sobbed.
"I told you, if I had an abortion, I could never have children again."
"So you targeted me, planned everything, put something in my drink at the banquet, then used being drunk and going to the wrong room as an excuse, and used your health as a reason to have the child." Every word from Ambrose was like a blade, aggressive and sharp.
Octavia looked like she'd been terribly wronged, tears welling up as she shook her head. "I didn't."
"Mr. Boleyn, do you have evidence for what you're saying?" Phaedra couldn't hold back anymore and demanded sharply.
A contemptuous smile curved Ambrose's lips. "So many women want to marry into the Boleyn family and become my wife. If I weren't usually so careful, I'd probably have not a hundred illegitimate children, but at least ten. Only that night, when I was in a bad mood, I fell into a trap."
At this, Ambrose looked at Octavia with icy eyes. "Ms. Mitchell went to the wrong room? You never went to the wrong room before, but it happened right then. What evidence do I need?"
Given Ambrose's status, countless women had approached him. Who wouldn't want to marry into the Boleyn family? So no one would believe that night was a coincidence.
The Mitchell family couldn't refute Ambrose's reasoning. After a long silence, Indigo spoke up.
"When you get down to it, that's all speculation."
Ambrose looked over coldly. "That night, only the surveillance on that floor had no footage."
At these words, the room fell completely silent.
Though Indigo understood in his heart, he still said, "Octavia has been kind since childhood. When she sees stray cats on the street, she worries they're hungry and uses her allowance to buy cat food to feed them. To say she could plan something like this, I don't believe it." He paused. "Perhaps Mr. Boleyn offended someone, and they set you up."
Ambrose gave a cold laugh. "Perhaps? Mr. Mitchell, you dare say something even you don't believe?"
"Women wanting to enter the Boleyn family were countless, even in my generation, let alone his. Ms. Mitchell, admiring my Ambrose, makes nothing impossible." Cody suddenly added this, then continued.
"Ms. Mitchell gave birth without telling us she was pregnant. Even if she didn't use this to blackmail her way into the Boleyn family afterward, sitting here now, doesn't it show she wants to enter the Boleyn family?"
Cody's words hit the point.
Indigo's face turned very ugly. He immediately changed the subject, "We're sitting here today out of parents' love for their daughter. Octavia is our only daughter, and we love her very much. When she suddenly said she had a four-year-old child, we couldn't accept it right away. We're just here to discuss how to resolve this matter."
Cody smiled faintly. "How does Mr. Mitchell want to resolve it?"
Indigo looked at Cody, then at Ambrose, throwing the difficult question back, "I'd like to hear what you both think."
"I already made my opinion clear to Ms. Mitchell. I have a fiancée now, so she can't see the child too often. Once every two weeks." Ambrose said.
Indigo's face hardened. "Mr. Boleyn, I'll be honest with you. My Octavia can never have children again, so this is her only child. Since you have a fiancée and won't lack for children, why not let my Octavia have the child?"
"Mr. Mitchell, the Boleyn family has never let others take our children away. There's no precedent." Ambrose flatly refused.
"Though the Boleyn family has great power and influence, you should still leave some room when doing things. Otherwise, you won't know what hit you when trouble comes." Indigo's words carried a threat.
Ambrose gave a light sneer. "Is Mr. Mitchell threatening me with the mayor's authority?"
Indigo straightened up. "Mr. Boleyn doesn't need to twist my words. I'm just seeking justice for my daughter as a father."
"Justice? Scheming against others and still demanding justice. It seems you, as Silverlight City's mayor, are quite biased." Ambrose's words left no face at all.
Indigo was now at a disadvantage and couldn't win by force, so he turned to Cody. "Mr. Cody Boleyn, young people act rashly. What do you think about this..."
"Mr. Mitchell, we understand Ms. Mitchell's situation. The fact that she's the child's mother will never change. Your family raising the child could never compare to raising him in the Boleyn family. The Boleyn family raises children as heirs. If you're thinking of what's best for him, you should let him receive a better education."
"If the Boleyn family raised him so well, the child wouldn't be so quiet." Octavia said, biting her lip.
"He doesn't like talking to people he doesn't like, but he talks a lot with people he likes." Cody said.
"Mr. Cody Boleyn, we naturally believe the Boleyn family's upbringing is the best. I understand what you mean. But first, let me see the child. I haven't even seen what he looks like yet. We haven't eaten yet, so could you have someone bring him over to eat with us?" Indigo changed the subject.
