Chapter 154 Wish Fulfilled
Scarlett asked in surprise, "You're buying paintings to collect?"
Ambrose raised an eyebrow. "You could say that."
Scarlett thought for a moment, then pointed to a painting. "Guard, that one has good value for collection."
Ambrose followed her gesture. "Take me to see it."
She came to see the exhibition, not to work. She said unhappily, "Go look at it yourself. I still want to see other things."
Meanwhile, Finnian and Kenna were backstage. Kenna asked with a probing smile, "Ms. Mellon is the one you've always liked, right?"
Finnian smiled. "What are you talking about, Aunt Kenna?"
"Don't pretend. I can tell from the way you look at her. But if I were a man, I'd like her too. Ms. Mellon is not only beautiful but also has great taste. Go for it and win her over!"
Kenna patted his shoulder supportively, encouraging him.
Finnian said, "Aunt Kenna isn't going to ask about her situation before telling me to pursue her?"
Kenna replied, "I just look at the character. From her eye just now, I can tell she's a good person."
Just then, Kenna's assistant came in to inform her that a guest had arrived. Kenna quickly changed the subject and patted Finnian.
"Later, bring her to the celebration."
With that, she left.
Finnian smiled, in an excellent mood as he walked back to the exhibition hall. As soon as he stepped out, he saw Ambrose standing next to Scarlett, saying something to her.
His brow furrowed. Why was Ambrose here?
Then he saw Kenna walk up to them and shake hands with Ambrose. He remembered what Kenna's assistant had said about a guest, so Kenna had invited Ambrose.
Finnian walked over to Scarlett's side. "Done looking?"
Scarlett shook her head. At that moment, Kenna had just finished exchanging pleasantries with Ambrose. After asking around, she learned that Ambrose and Scarlett knew each other, and she remarked that they were all acquaintances.
Ambrose then pointed at "Guard" and said, "Ms. Wallace, I'd like to buy this painting."
As soon as he finished speaking, Finnian said, "Sorry, I've already bought this painting."
Kenna looked up at him, not understanding why he would say that. Did he have a grudge against Ambrose?
Ambrose glanced at Finnian but asked Scarlett, "You just said this painting hasn't been sold."
Scarlett secretly rolled her eyes. When did she ever say that? But she guessed he was saying this to counter Finnian.
But why did Finnian say he'd bought the painting?
Did he not want to sell it to Ambrose?
"Mr. Boleyn, I'm sorry, this painting - my nephew likes it, and he's bought it." Kenna quickly caught on and went along with Finnian.
Ambrose responded calmly, "Since it's been sold, let's look at other paintings."
With that, he tugged at Scarlett. "Let's go look at another one."
Scarlett frowned. What was Ambrose doing? Seeing Kenna's puzzled expression, she smiled and explained.
"This is my boss. He asked me to help him evaluate paintings."
Kenna nodded with a smile. "Then you two go ahead and look at the others."
Scarlett had no choice but to follow Ambrose to look at the paintings. After they left, Scarlett asked Ambrose in a low voice, "What are you trying to do?"
"Buy a painting. You have good judgment in this area, so help me pick one." Ambrose said matter-of-factly.
There was no way Scarlett couldn't see that he was just here to cause trouble. All along, he'd had a problem with her being close to Finnian. Seeing her come to the art exhibition with Finnian made him uncomfortable.
But his behavior would cause her a lot of trouble.
When they reached a place with fewer people, Scarlett looked at him and asked, "Ambrose, aren't you just playing around with me?"
Ambrose, seeing that she'd brought up this question, thought about making his feelings clear. But then he remembered that last time she'd said she didn't want to talk about feelings, so he said.
"Am I the type to just fool around with women?"
So when he suggested they maintain this kind of relationship last time, it was just a delaying tactic. She looked directly into his eyes. "So you do like me, you've liked me from the beginning?"
From the beginning? It was more than that.
Ambrose, afraid of scaring her if he said too much, said roguishly, "No matter when I started liking you, the point is I do like you."
Hearing this, Scarlett felt shocked and confused.
Wesley used to say he liked her too, but those were lies. She'd been deceived for seven years and never thought anyone else would like her. Now this outstanding man in front of her was telling her he liked her.
To say her heart wasn't moved would be impossible.
Someone of Ambrose's status wouldn't need to deceive her, after all, she had nothing left to be deceived about now.
But even if he said he liked her, she didn't want to accept it right now.
After thinking, she said, "You know, I told you last time that I have no intention of starting a new relationship, so..."
"I'm not asking you to agree now. How about we just date first?" Ambrose asked.
Actually, she didn't even want to date.
So Scarlett sighed and said, "It's too early to talk about this now. Let's deal with the matters between us first, and then talk about this later!"
The matter she was referring to, Ambrose guessed it was Octavia. He did need to deal with this first. Until this matter was resolved, no one could feel at ease.
Thinking of Scarlett's situation, besides finding the child, there was also the man from that night. He told her what Chase had just reported.
"Ulysses isn't the man from that night. You don't need to worry anymore."
Scarlett was stunned again, then asked, "You're sure?"
Ambrose nodded. "The DNA test results came out. He has no relationship with Yara whatsoever."
Hearing this, Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn't Ulysses, that was great. As long as it wasn't him, she didn't care who it was. She didn't want to know either. Call her a coward if you will, but she just didn't want to know who Yara's father was.
She reminded him again, "Don't investigate this anymore."
"If you don't want me to investigate, I won't." Ambrose said, pausing for two seconds, his gaze burning as he locked onto her.
"But before we start dating, you can't let other men take advantage."
Scarlett couldn't refuse this request. She nodded, appeasing him.
After all, she'd planned every step carefully now and couldn't let him disrupt things.
In the end, she selected a painting for Ambrose. After he bought it, he had something to attend to and left first.
After Scarlett finished viewing the exhibition, Finnian conveyed Kenna's invitation for her to attend the celebration. Scarlett felt it was inappropriate, so she made an excuse and left as well.
"Finnian, looks like your rival is pretty strong. I don't think you have much of a chance." Kenna stood beside Finnian, teasing him.
Finnian was unfazed. "A family like Ambrose's would never approve of their relationship, so my chances are definitely no smaller than his."
Kenna smiled. "Then I wish you success in getting what you want."
Ambrose left the museum and headed straight to the Four Seasons Hotel. He had arranged to meet Indigo for lunch, and Cody was also attending.
When he arrived at the reserved private room, everyone was already there. Cody was sitting there, chatting and laughing with Indigo.
As soon as Ambrose entered, the room fell silent.
