Chapter 149 Disturb
Scarlett held her phone and turned her head, immediately spotting Ambrose at the bustling park entrance.
Light poured down from above him. He wore a dark blue shirt that hugged his muscular frame, and the most eye-catching feature was the golden armband on his arm, gleaming under the lights—the very picture of an elite.
Every woman who passed by him couldn't help but turn and steal a glance.
When Scarlett saw him, her heart skipped a beat. The image of a god descending to earth flashed through her mind. He really stood out in the crowd.
"How much longer until you're done?" Ambrose's voice came through the phone in her hand.
Scarlett quickly collected her thoughts and asked coolly, "Do you need something?"
"Hayden heard you weren't coming home to stay and got really down. To cheer him up, I told him you bought him a toy before you left, so come with me to pick out a toy for him." Ambrose's emotionless voice traveled through the phone to her ears.
On this bustling evening, he dangled the bait, and she steadied herself before responding.
"You can just go buy him one yourself."
"I've never bought toys for kids. You understand what children like better than I do—he'll definitely like whatever you choose." Ambrose said.
The reason was perfect.
She couldn't even bring herself to refuse. He did this on purpose, didn't he!
Annoyed, she hung up the phone, turned back around, and said to Finnian with a smile, "Then it's settled—we'll go see Kenna's art exhibition tomorrow."
Finnian nodded with a smile. "Great, the exhibition is at the museum."
"Should we walk around some more?" Finnian asked tentatively.
Scarlett pressed her lips together and nodded. "Let's walk a bit more."
Let Ambrose wait. Maybe it would take him down a peg, and he probably wouldn't come looking for her next time.
Finnian and Scarlett walked side by side, eating hot dogs as they strolled, looking quite content.
Standing at the entrance, Ambrose watched this scene, his eyes narrowing as a dangerous air escaped through the slits. Especially seeing them walking side by side like a couple on a date, his tongue swept across his teeth, and the next second, his long legs started moving.
But just as he took one step, the words "from now on we don't interfere with each other" suddenly echoed in his mind. His steps halted. Gritting his teeth, he suppressed the dangerous energy, turned his phone in his hand, and lowered his head to type a message.
Over there, Scarlett finished her hot dog, tossed the trash in a bin, and heard her phone notification. She pulled out her phone and glanced at the screen.
[I have something else to do in a bit. How about we go buy the toy first, and you can come back to handle your business after?]
Looking at the message on screen, Scarlett's face showed no expression. She turned off the screen, looked up, and kept walking.
Finnian also threw his trash in the bin and followed behind her. "Do you have something to do?"
Scarlett turned her head with a slight smile. "It's not very important."
Finnian put his hands in his pockets and said casually, "Since you have something to do, go ahead and take care of it. The exhibition opens at ten tomorrow. I'll come pick you up then."
Seeing this, Scarlett nodded, and the two walked toward the entrance.
At that moment, three women stood in front of Ambrose, one of them staring straight at him, asking to add him on WhatsApp.
Ambrose looked completely impatient. He looked up, saw Scarlett and Finnian walking over, and pointed in Scarlett's direction.
"My girlfriend is here."
The three women immediately turned their heads. Under the lights, Scarlett and Finnian strolled, looking elegant and graceful. They thought to themselves that this woman was really beautiful—of course, beautiful people date other beautiful people.
But then they noticed the man beside Scarlett was also handsome. Though not as good-looking as Ambrose, he was still quite handsome compared to most people.
Just then, Scarlett and Finnian reached them, and Ambrose stared at Scarlett.
"Done with your business?"
Scarlett glanced at him without responding, then glanced at the three women. At this look, one of them immediately explained.
"Sorry, we didn't know he had a girlfriend. We'll leave right away." As she spoke, she pulled the other two away.
Scarlett understood—Ambrose had used her again to reject women hitting on him.
After the three left, they stood face to face. Finnian had a half-smile on his lips, looking at Ambrose with cool indifference.
Ambrose naturally noticed Finnian's expression. His face remained calm, his eyes cold, and he didn't acknowledge him. Instead, he said to Scarlett.
"Since you're done, let's go!"
Scarlett turned to look at Finnian. "Finnian, I'll head out first."
Finnian nodded, deliberately adding, "Don't forget about tomorrow."
At these words, Ambrose glanced at him again. The look showed no emotion, but Finnian could sense that Ambrose had turned dangerous.
He didn't care at all, lazily keeping his hands in his pockets as he met Ambrose's gaze.
Finnian deliberately mentioned the time for their gallery visit as payback for Ambrose interrupting them tonight.
When Scarlett took the call, he had already seen Ambrose and knew about the entanglement between Scarlett and Ambrose.
He liked Scarlett—had liked her since college. But because she liked Wesley, he silently wished her well. Now that she was divorced, he felt he couldn't miss this opportunity.
He hadn't expected to be a step behind again, with Ambrose getting to her first. But even if it was Ambrose, he didn't want to miss this chance.
Scarlett got into Ambrose's car and sat in the passenger seat, asking without much enthusiasm.
"Where are we going to buy it?"
Ambrose fastened his seatbelt while saying, "Up to you."
Scarlett turned her head and looked at him coolly. Having fastened his seatbelt, Ambrose turned his head and asked with a light laugh, "Why are you looking at me?"
"Did you have someone follow me?" Scarlett asked.
"I came to find you in the first place. I just happened to pass by and saw you." Ambrose raised an eyebrow.
Scarlett was too lazy to argue with him about this now. Even if he had done it, he probably wouldn't tell her the truth anyway. Once the situation with the child was resolved, she'd deal with him.
"Let's go to the mall," she said.
Ambrose drove at a moderate speed. The car was quiet. Ambrose's fingertips lightly rubbed the steering wheel. After a long while, he said, as if casually.
"Tomorrow I wanted to talk to you about the construction details for the art gallery."
Scarlett answered honestly, "Tomorrow's my day off. I have plans."
Ambrose turned his head. "Going out with Finnian?"
Scarlett didn't answer him, just turned to look at him. "What's it to you?"
Seeing her so guarded, he let out a light snort and put on an expression of complete indifference. "Just asking. If you don't want to say, pretend you didn't hear me."
After that, they fell silent until they reached the mall. Scarlett led him straight to the children's toy section. She browsed the toys while he sat in the rest area, looking at his phone while waiting for her.
Suddenly, a soft voice rang out.
"Ambrose."
Ambrose's gaze lifted from his phone to see Octavia standing in front of him, with Ulysses beside her.
Seeing the two of them, Ambrose's expression instantly turned cold.
"Octavia, why are you still buying toys for your son? He's here buying them with another woman." Ulysses said with sarcastic undertones.
