Chapter 144 The Man from That Night

Chapter 144 The Man from That Night

Chase responded, "Yes."

Ambrose frowned. Octavia and Ulysses both appeared on the same floor - one was him, one was Scarlett. Was this planned all along?

Or just a coincidence?

Ambrose was silent for a moment, then said, "First, get Ulysses's hair and have it tested with Yara."

"Alright, I'll find a way to get Ulysses's hair," Chase replied.

"The surveillance on that floor just happened to be gone, so you couldn't find out how Octavia got into my room either. And Scarlett had her incident on the same floor. Is it possible the Mitchell family planned this?"

After Ambrose asked, Chase responded.

"I'm considering that too, but there's no evidence to prove it. Right now, the main thing is to prove whether Ulysses has any connection to the child, then draw conclusions."

"Didn't Brielle originally borrow money from the Mitchell family for Wesley? Go find Brielle again, see if you can get anything else out of her," Ambrose said.

"Okay, I'll go see Brielle right away. She's pretty miserable now, which shows the Mitchell family didn't protect her. If she's still holding something back, maybe we can use this to get her to reveal some secrets," Chase said.

Ambrose was silent for a few seconds, then turned to ask about Scarlett's missing son. "Have you found that boy yet?"

The only reason Scarlett hadn't openly cut ties with him was because of her son. Once she found her son, she would cut off contact with him without hesitation.

Whether that child was related to Ulysses or not, he had to find him first.

"We got the video from that park four years ago, and we're tracking down the person who took the child. I believe we should have a lead soon," Chase responded.

"Make it quick!"

After hanging up, Ambrose sat in his chair, lost in thought for a while, then picked up his phone from the desk and dialed a number.

"Why are you suddenly calling me?" Octavia's soft, gentle voice came through.

Ambrose's expression was calm as he stated his purpose plainly. "Saturday's visit with the child will have to be postponed. The child is sick."

Tomorrow was Saturday.

"Hayden is sick? Is it serious?" Octavia's tone carried some urgency, her concern evident in her voice.

"Just a minor illness, but I'm worried that if he hears about seeing you, it might upset him. Better not to meet for now," Ambrose said, still without much emotion.

Octavia was silent for a moment on the other end, then directly made a request, "I want to go see him."

Ambrose's hand resting on the desk tapped the surface rhythmically. "It's not convenient. My fiancée is staying at my place now. If you come, she'll get the wrong idea. So we'll have to wait until Hayden gets better, then I'll bring him to see you."

Octavia fell silent again. After a long while, she responded graciously, "That is a bit inconvenient. Is your fiancée the woman who was with you that night?"

"Yes."

"I know her. She's Owen's daughter, Scarlett. I didn't expect that after all these years, she'd be your fiancée." Octavia seemed to want to say more, but stopped.

Ambrose acted as if he didn't catch the implication in her words, and said, "Since you know her, I won't say much more. You should understand clearly that it's even more inconvenient for you to come. Also, I hope you'll see less of Hayden in the future. After all, we did reach an agreement back then."

Ambrose's words were forceful, forceful enough to provoke Octavia.

"Ambrose, you're being too much. You don't want to have contact with me, I agreed to that. But you won't let me see the child - I don't agree to that. I risked my life to give birth to that child. If I hadn't been unable to care for him back then, I wouldn't have given him to you, wouldn't have even let you know about this child. I also told you, back then, it was because of my health - the doctor said if I didn't have this child, I might never be able to have children again. That's why I chose to have him. Now you're telling me to see him less - how is that different from taking my life?"

"I made it clear long ago that I never intended to use the child to climb up. Why don't you believe me? Why do you treat me this way? I still haven't told my parents about the child, and now you're pressuring me like this?"

By the end, Octavia's voice was tearful. "Since you're starting a new family, and my health is good enough to care for the child now, give him to me. I'll take care of him and won't interfere with your life with your fiancée."

Ambrose remained calm in the face of Octavia's agitation.

"The child isn't something you can give up when you want and take back when you want. My son isn't for others to raise. I'm just telling you, if you want to see the child, fine, but it has to be when it's convenient for me."

"Tomorrow's meeting is canceled. We'll be in touch later." Ambrose didn't wait for her response before hanging up.

After hanging up, Ambrose held his phone, deep in thought. In a few days, the Mitchell family would definitely find out about the child. Or perhaps they already knew and were just keeping quiet.

Now that the Mitchell family had risen in status, he wanted to see what scheme they were plotting.

On Octavia's end, after hanging up, her face darkened, the hand gripping her phone showing prominent veins.

"Octavia, why are you staying in your room instead of coming out?" Octavia's mother, Phaedra Jenkins, walked into her room calling for her.

Octavia turned around, a smile appearing on her face. "Mom, I just finished a phone call. I was about to come find you."

Phaedra took her hand and led her to sit on the edge of the bed, looking at her with a loving expression.

"Octavia, are you still waiting for Ambrose? I heard there's a woman by his side now. How about I have your father arrange something, send some hints about a marriage alliance to the Boleyn family, see if anything comes of it?"

Octavia lowered her head, her tone subdued. "Mom, what you're saying - I was just thinking of discussing this with Dad. With Dad's current position, forming a marriage alliance with the Boleyn family would benefit him too. Plus, there's already a connection between him and me."

Phaedra didn't know what connection, and quickly asked, "What connection do you have with him?"

After hearing this, Octavia suddenly began to cry. "Mom, after I tell you, please don't be angry."

Seeing her tears before she even spoke, Phaedra grew more puzzled and worried, asking urgently, "I won't be angry, tell me quickly."

"Mom, Ambrose and I have a child together. I gave birth four years ago. After I had the baby, I was weak, so I gave the child to him to raise. I never dared tell you," Octavia said while crying.

Phaedra was shocked, her mouth falling open, stunned. Seeing this, Octavia quickly called out, "Mom, don't scare me!"

"Octavia, why didn't you say anything before?"

"I didn't dare tell you, I was afraid you'd be angry," Octavia sobbed.

"I'm telling you now because I don't want my child to have a stepmother in the future. I'm afraid that woman will treat him badly."

"I'll call your father back and have him go to the Boleyn family." Phaedra quickly stood up and rushed toward the door.
