Chapter 135 Hayden's Mom
As soon as Ruben finished speaking, the door to the private room opened. Standing at the entrance was a woman with long straight hair, wearing a white silk dress. Her delicate, beautiful face wore a gentle smile as she walked in gracefully.
Seeing who it was, Ruben rolled his eyes. Why did she have to come back now? Ambrose had finally managed to bring Scarlett out, and here she was.
"Ambrose." The woman's voice was as gentle as her demeanor.
"Ambrose, I just heard you were eating here, so I came to say hello." The woman walked up to them, explaining softly and gently.
When Ambrose saw her, his brow furrowed slightly, but it only lasted a second before returning to normal. Showing no emotion, he asked flatly.
"When did you get back?"
"I came back yesterday. I was planning to look for you in the next couple of days, but when I heard you were here, I figured I'd just come see you."
The woman kept looking at Ambrose, her gaze tender.
Everyone just looked at the woman before them. The others' faces were calm, except for Scarlett, who stared at this woman in disbelief.
Octavia Mitchell?
She knew Ambrose, and from the looks of it, their relationship was quite unusual. But weren't the Boleyn family and the Mitchell family sworn enemies?
Just as Scarlett was puzzling over this, she heard Ambrose's emotionless voice reach her ears.
"If there's something to discuss, let's set up a time later!"
"Alright, we'll talk by phone then. I won't disturb your meal." After Octavia finished speaking, her gaze swept toward Scarlett.
With a smile on her face, she nodded to the others, then left the room.
After Octavia left, the room suddenly fell silent for a few seconds. Finally, Griffin spoke up, "Ms. Mellon, you should try this dish, it's really good."
Scarlett quickly gathered herself and smiled at him, doing him the favor of forking a piece of tender salmon. As she ate it, her mind wasn't on tasting its flavor.
What was the relationship between Octavia and Ambrose?
After finishing dinner and heading back to Lakeside Garden, Scarlett couldn't contain her curiosity and asked Ambrose.
"Are you and Octavia close?"
Ambrose was driving. After a few seconds of silence, he replied: "She's Hayden's mother."
For a moment, Scarlett thought she'd heard wrong. She turned her head slowly and asked to confirm: "What did you say?"
"Octavia is Hayden's mother."
After getting confirmation again, Scarlett's eyes widened in disbelief. Octavia was Hayden's mother? How could this be such a coincidence?
But the Boleyn family and the Mitchell family had never gotten along. How could these two possibly have had a child together?
Could it be that because of the conflict between the Boleyn family and the Mitchell family, the two were separated, but Octavia was already pregnant with Ambrose's child, so she gave birth and handed the child over to Ambrose?
"Things between us are complicated. Apart from her being Hayden's mother, we have no relationship now." Ambrose's voice was low, with a hint of tension.
Scarlett was shocked by this news and didn't notice his tone. Faced with this sudden information, her feelings were complicated.
Octavia's father, Indigo Mitchell, was the current person in power. If Octavia was Hayden's mother, with a child as a connection, Ambrose would inevitably be tied to the Mitchell family.
But Indigo was the one who harmed Owen, which meant Ambrose was...
Scarlett didn't dare think further. A chill crept up from the soles of her feet. How could this be?
"I have no relationship with Octavia, and I won't have any relationship with the Mitchell family." Ambrose suddenly explained.
Scarlett turned to look at him, her tone cold and firm: "But she's Hayden's mother. You never told me this, and the Mitchell family is my enemy."
Ambrose: "There was no need to mention it, and you know that I've never gotten along with the Mitchell family. That won't change because of Hayden."
The car pulled into the Lakeside Garden parking lot. Scarlett didn't get out immediately but sat in her seat, taking deep breaths, desperately trying to control her temper.
"No, when there's a child involved, there can never be no relationship. You actually had me treat my enemy's child. Ambrose, what exactly were you thinking?"
By the end, Scarlett's voice had risen sharply.
The feeling of being played was just too awful. How could she encounter this kind of thing again?
Ambrose quickly turned around, gripping her shoulders with both hands: "Calm down. I've been taking care of the child since birth, it has nothing to do with her. I didn't mention it because I thought it wasn't necessary, not because I was deliberately hiding it from you."
Scarlett didn't believe him, didn't dare to believe him.
Over these years, she'd seen too many people and situations that challenged human nature.
What was Ambrose's real purpose in seeking her out?
Just moments ago, she'd been wondering if he liked her. Now, thinking about it, it seemed a bit ridiculous.
If he liked her, how could he have her help Octavia care for her child, knowing full well that the Mitchell family was her family's rival?
She was trembling with anger, raising both hands and saying: "Let go of me. I need to calm down."
Seeing her reaction, Ambrose ran his tongue over his teeth, reluctantly released his grip, and watched her get out of the car and run toward the elevator like she was fleeing. He raised his hand and rubbed his forehead.
Her reaction was even stronger than he'd imagined.
Scarlett entered the house and before going to her bedroom, first checked on Yara sleeping, but didn't go see Hayden.
She knew the child was innocent, but at this moment, she couldn't be without reservations.
Indigo had sent Owen to prison, yet she was taking care of Octavia's child. She couldn't do it.
She returned to her bedroom and leaned weakly against the door, taking a deep breath, trying to calm herself, but she couldn't. The news that Octavia was Hayden's mother kept echoing in her mind.
Ambrose and Octavia had had a child together, and she was maintaining this kind of relationship with Ambrose. It was all too chaotic, too ironic.
No, she had to cut off this relationship. She couldn't let them play her for a fool.
But what about her son?
If she took a firm stance and cut ties, he definitely wouldn't help her search for her son anymore.
Scarlett crouched on the floor, hugging herself tightly. She had to give up one of them.
Revenge or her child—which should she choose?
Scarlett had never faced such a difficult choice before. This time, it was the hardest situation she'd ever encountered.
Still sitting in the car, Ambrose lit a cigarette and smoked sullenly. Halfway through, he received a call from Felix.
"Judging by your gloomy tone, things don't look good?" Felix's voice came through the phone, probing with interest.
Ambrose was frustrated. His head leaned back against the headrest, one hand holding the phone, the hand with the cigarette casually resting on the car window. He said flatly: "Her reaction was pretty strong."
"I could have guessed. Octavia is from the Mitchell family. As their rival, how could Ms. Mellon not think the worst, especially with Hayden under her care."
"With Octavia coming back now, the Mitchell family will soon find out about Hayden. It's not just about coaxing Ms. Mellon—you'll also have to face pressure from both the Mitchell family and the Boleyn family."
