Chapter 130 Narrow Roads for Enemies
To avoid any complications, Scarlett immediately had someone take Bianca to the police station to give her statement.
With a witness, the police quickly brought in the people involved for questioning. The Ross Group's accountant, seeing that everything had been exposed, quickly spilled the truth, but pushed all the responsibility onto the people from Gold Valley District.
Wesley cleared himself even more thoroughly, claiming that people from Gold Valley District had approached him saying Cleo had taken kickbacks and obtained that evidence. He wanted to investigate privately, but Scarlett reported it to the police - it had nothing to do with him.
So in the end, all the responsibility was pushed onto the people from Gold Valley District, who took the fall.
The next day, Scarlett got a call from the police station asking her to come in. When she arrived and asked around, she learned that the people from Gold Valley District had taken responsibility, and both she and Cleo were in the clear.
Naturally they were happy to be cleared, but Wesley had gotten away clean, which annoyed Scarlett. As she was leaving the police station, she ran into Wesley, who deliberately came over to irritate her.
"Congratulations on being cleared."
Scarlett, who had been walking with Cleo, turned to Cleo after hearing Wesley's words.
"You go ahead and process your resignation."
Cleo nodded. Before leaving, she looked at Wesley. "Mr. Ross, you should sign it now!"
"Since you insist on resigning, I can't keep you. Follow the process and I'll sign it." Wesley looked completely indifferent.
"Fine, I'll go back to the company now to pack up. I hope you keep your word."
Cleo then left.
At the entrance of the police station, Scarlett and Wesley stood facing each other, their eyes cold.
"Wesley, no matter what dirty tricks you use, you can never beat justice."
"Scarlett, you won just this one tiny round and you think you're some champion of justice? How ridiculous."
"If you think this is ridiculous, you'll have plenty more to laugh at in the future!"
With that, she turned to leave. Wesley caught up with her. "You're just relying on Ambrose to help you. You think he'll keep helping you forever? Don't be naive. Right now he just finds you interesting. When he gets bored, he'll dump you just the same. Who will you rely on then?"
Scarlett sneered. "Anyone but you."
"Do our seven years together really mean less than a child whose father is unknown? Do you have to push me to the edge?" Wesley reached out and grabbed her arm.
Scarlett instinctively jerked away from his touch and pointed at him. "Don't touch me."
Wesley raised his hands in surrender, meaning he wouldn't touch her, but kept talking. "I won't say I didn't have other motives at first, but during our time together, I did fall in love with you. That's why I was so angry when I found out you'd lost your purity - it was all because I loved you."
Hearing this, Scarlett remained calm, without any emotional response. She didn't argue, but simply said:
"If what you're saying is true, then go through with transferring the shares you promised me!"
As soon as she said this, she clearly saw him freeze. The next second, he lowered his head, pretending to be helpless.
"Of course I'll give you what I promised, but you know, ever since Ambrose had the tax bureau audit us, the Ross Group had to pay back a huge amount in taxes. Plus with problems on various projects, the company is tight on cash right now and simply can't come up with the money."
A faint cold smile played on Scarlett's lips. "If you can't come up with the money now, then transfer the shares to me first. When you can afford it later, you can convert them to cash."
Wesley stared at her for a long time without speaking. Scarlett smiled slightly. "Don't agree?"
"Of course I can transfer them to you."
"Fine, then I'll have Mr. Evans come over right now to handle this." As Scarlett spoke, she made a move to get her phone, but just as her hand reached into her bag, she heard Wesley say:
"Not today, my lawyer is here."
"Wasn't your lawyer just here?" Scarlett laughed coldly. "Wesley, you never planned to give them to me. You're just trying to fool me."
"As long as you drop the matter about the child, I'll transfer the shares to you right away." Wesley finally revealed his real purpose.
Scarlett laughed. After laughing, she said: "Dream on."
With that, she said nothing more and turned to leave. Wesley caught up. "It's a child whose father is unknown, and you weren't even hoping for it to be born. Why can't you just let me go?"
"Scarlett!" A clear voice rang out.
Scarlett stopped and turned around to see Finnian in a cool work outfit. She softened the harshness on her face. "Finnian!"
Wesley also turned around. When he saw Finnian, his expression changed. Finnian acted as if he didn't notice Wesley's expression and walked over with a smile.
"What are you doing here?" Scarlett asked, trying to sound casual.
Finnian smiled. "Here to discuss some work stuff. Are you done with your business?"
Scarlett didn't know if Finnian really knew she was here on business or was just asking casually, but she nodded.
"About to head back."
"I'll give you a ride back," Finnian said.
Scarlett had come this morning in Ambrose's car - Ambrose was going to see Orion and had given her a ride on the way.
"Thanks, I appreciate it." Scarlett didn't refuse.
Finnian started walking, treating Wesley like he was invisible, not giving him a single glance.
Scarlett and Finnian left. Wesley didn't follow, but his hanging hand clenched into a fist. Finnian was back.
When they were at Celestial University, Finnian had liked Scarlett, but because Scarlett liked him, Finnian never had a chance. Now that he heard she was divorced, he came back?
But so what if he came back? The person with Scarlett now was Ambrose.
Scarlett and Finnian reached his car. They got in, and from start to finish, Finnian didn't ask about what just happened. Scarlett knew he was giving her respect.
"Finnian, are you here for work?" Scarlett made conversation to ease the atmosphere.
"Yeah, the network information engineering thing I mentioned to you last time."
"Congratulations. I congratulated you online, but now that we're meeting in person, I should congratulate you face to face." Since they last met at the bar, they hadn't seen each other.
"I'll take that congratulations," Finnian said. As he spoke, he'd already started the car, and as it started up, he drove toward the police station gate.
"Since I'm taking your congratulations, I should definitely treat you to celebrate. It's almost lunchtime now. No time like the present - want to grab a meal together?" Finnian naturally extended the invitation.
Scarlett raised her hand and checked her watch. It was 11:30. If she went back to the company now, it would be about time for the lunch break anyway.
Since Finnian said it was to celebrate, she couldn't really refuse. "Sure, let's have a meal together."
Finnian took Scarlett to a stylish private restaurant. Scarlett knew of this place - it was famous, promoting itself as combining food and medicine, and was popular with wealthy people in Silverlight City.
But it was members-only - only members could enter. As Scarlett followed Finnian into the restaurant, she remarked:
"Finnian, I didn't know you were a member here."
Finnian smiled casually. "I know the founder of this restaurant. They gave me a membership card. I haven't really used it much, but it comes in handy today."
Scarlett raised an eyebrow. Seemed like Finnian had pretty good connections too.
Following the server's lead, they came to a private room. Pushing the door open, a comfortable atmosphere greeted them.
Scarlett had been here before, but this was her first time in this particular room. Her eyes lit up.
"This environment is really nice."
