CHAPTER TEN
The second assignment
As Nina drifted off to sleep, her peaceful expression eased the restlessness in Zoa's heart. He couldn't help but admire her innocent beauty as he stared at her, even in the midst of their dire circumstances. But deep down, he was scared, scared of what Chief Cody would do. Zoa knew That he didn't give up so easily, and Zoa knew they were still in danger. He knew the chief would stop at nothing to bring his prey down.
As he watched over Nina, a plan began to form in Zoa's mind. He needed to find a way to hide from Chief Cody's relentless quest. They couldn't stay in one place for long, or they would risk being found and captured or possibly killed.
Deep in thought, Zoa considered their options. He knew they needed to stay on the move, constantly changing their location to avoid detection. But even then, he feared it might not be enough to hide from
Chief Cody's goal.
With a heavy heart, Zoa realized that he needed to tell Nina how he felt first. Delay is dangerous. He couldn't afford to wait any longer. If they were going to survive, they needed to rely on each other, and that meant being honest about their emotions.
Zoa made a decision. When Nina woke up, he would confess his feelings to her. He hoped she would accept him, despite his past and the dangers that surrounded him.
“Yes, I’ll confess my feelings to her, at dawn. And I hope she also feels the same way as I do towards her.”
With his mind fully made up, Zoa gently brushed a strand of hair away from Nina's face, his heart filled with yearning. He had never felt this way about anyone before, and he knew how Nina had captured his heart in a way no one else ever could.
On the final thought, Zoa leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to Nina's forehead, a silent promise of his love and devotion. At that moment, he vowed to protect her with his life, no matter what happens.
With that, he lay beside her and dozed off immediately.
Back in the Yitta clan….
Chief Cody's fury knew no bounds as he raged at everyone in sight. “All of you, get the hell out of my sight. You are all a bunch of useless people.” His face contorted with anger, he barked orders and demands, his voice echoing through the halls of the clan.
Williams, the butler, tried to calm him down, with a soothing voice. Chief Cody's raging storm. "Chief, please, you must give Zoa more time, you know he has never failed on any of his assignments, he's the best in the pack." Williams pleaded, his brow furrowed with concern. "He may have experienced problems or dangers. We must be patient, just give him a little time."
But Chief Cody would have none of it. His mind was consumed with anger and suspicion, his thoughts sprinting with the possibilities of what could have happened to Zoa. He couldn't afford any mistakes or delays, not when his family's reputation was at stake.
"I don't want excuses, Williams," Chief Cody snapped, his tone sharp and uncompromising. "I need results. Zoa should have reported back by now, and the fact that he hasn't only confirms my suspicions that something is amiss.
“I want results, I want the damn job done,” he said, as he paced back and forth on his study.
Williams nodded grimly, understanding the seriousness of the situation. He knew Chief Cody's temper was not to be taken lightly, especially when he was trying to protect his family.
As they continued to discuss their options, Chief Cody's mind was filled With malice and wickedness. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was a conspiracy, and if Nina crossed to Yoma, he was doomed. So he had to act fast. “What do I do?” he muttered. He was confused and desperate. It was just a simple task for him. Kill Nina And return him with evidence. “Why is it taking too long? What the fuck is happening?” he yelled, scattering whatever he could lay His hands on.
With a heavy heart, Chief Cody made a silent vow to himself. “Nina, I must find you,” He would stop at nothing to find Nina and bring her back to the clan, no matter the cost. And if anyone dared to stand in his way, they would face the full force of his wrath.
“I’ll give it one more day? Zoa.”
24 hours later….
When Zoa failed to give him feedback, he sent another
assassin, Ingo, after her, with specific instructions to
get rid of all of them.
After twenty-four hours of agonizing silence from Zoa, Chief Cody's impatience reached its breaking point. With a furious scowl etched on his face, he summoned Indigo, another skilled assassin, to his office.
Indigo entered the room, his expression unreadable as he awaited Chief Cody's instructions.
"Indigo, I have a new task for you," Chief Cody began, his voice dripping with anger and frustration. "Zoa has failed to report back, and I suspect he's gone rogue. Your mission is to find him and Nina. If they're together, eliminate them both."
Indigo nodded curtly, understanding the gravity of the assignment. He was well aware of Chief Cody's reputation for ruthlessness and knew better than to question his orders.
"Consider it done, Chief," Indigo replied stoically, his eyes gleaming with determination. "I'll track them down and ensure they meet their end."
Chief Cody's lips curled into a cold smile. "Good. I expect nothing less than success from you, Indigo. Failure is not an option."
As Indigo left the office, Chief Cody's mind churned with a mixture of anger and expectation. He knew that time was running out, and he couldn't afford any more delays. His family reputation was at stake, and he would stop at nothing to ensure that she met her fate at his hands.
