Chapter 80 Safe

Chapter 80 Safe

Aysel stared at the bright lights rushing toward her in the ocean, her hands shaking on the steering wheel.

"I’m coming for you, little mouse," Seraphina whispered through the phone, laughing a high, crazy laugh that made Aysel's blood run cold.

Aysel didn’t answer. She dropped the phone onto the floor of the boat, gripping the wheel as hard as she could. She pushed the metal handle forward, making the loud engine roar as they flew over the crashing waves.

She looked back over her shoulder again, expecting the other boat to crash into them. Suddenly, a thick, heavy fog rolled over the water.

The lights behind them vanished.

The sound of the other boat engine faded, leaving only the sound of the wind.

Seraphina was gone.

Aysel didn’t slow down. She kept driving straight ahead, tears pouring down her face, praying for the ride to end.

Finally, the boat bumped hard against a sandy beach, hitting the dirt with a loud thud, making Aysel fall forward onto her knees.

They made it to the other side of the water.

"Ruan," Aysel cried out, crawling over to her unconscious husband, grabbing his face with both shaking hands. "Please wake up, Ruan, we are safe now."

Ruan groaned a low, painful sound. His eyebrows pulled together as his eyes fluttered open slowly.

"Aysel," Ruan choked out, his voice rough and dry as he looked up at her crying face. "Where are we?"

"We crossed the water," Aysel sobbed, pressing her forehead against his cheek. "Seraphina chased us but she suddenly disappeared so we’re alone."

Ruan took a slow breath, gripping his bleeding shoulder tightly. He pushed himself up off the floor of the boat with a grunt of pain.

"Help me stand up," Ruan whispered, leaning his weight against her. "The safe house isnt far anymore baby."

Aysel wrapped her arms around his waist, acting as a human crutch as they walked slowly into the woods.

They walked for five minutes until they saw a wooden cabin behind tall trees, looking invisible to the rest of the world.

Ruan pushed the door open and flipped a switch on the wall, turning on a dim yellow light that filled the tiny cabin.

"There’s a white box in the bathroom," Ruan grunted, falling heavily onto the bed in the corner while holding his arm. "Go get the bandages, Aysel."

Aysel rushed into the bathroom, grabbed the first-aid box from the shelf, and hurried back to the bed.

She didn’t cry anymore. She opened the box, took out a pair of scissors, and cut Ruan's shirt off his chest.

The bullet had gone through his shoulder muscle, leaving a bleeding hole, but it hadn’t hit any major bones.

"This is going to hurt a lot," Aysel warned him gently as she poured cold cleaning liquid over the wound, watching his jaw clench tightly.

Ruan didn’t scream. He just squeezed his eyes shut, his chest rising and falling quickly, letting her wrap the bandages tightly around his shoulder to stop the bleeding.

"You did so well, baby," Ruan whispered, opening his eyes to look at her face. He pulled her down to sit on the edge of the bed next to him.

"I thought you were going to die on the boat," Aysel said softly, resting her hand on his chest, feeling his heart beating rapidly.

"I will never leave you," Ruan promised firmly, wrapping his good arm around her waist, pulling her against his body. "But we can’t hide in this cabin forever. We have to go back to the city tomorrow morning."

"The police are looking for you, Ruan," Aysel said quickly, panic washing over her. Her eyes widened with fresh fear. "Arthur framed you for murder. They will lock you up!"

"Arthur is dead," Ruan reminded her softly, kissing her hair. "I shot him, Aysel. I killed a man today. We need to go to the police station and tell them the truth."

"But what if they don’t believe us?" Aysel asked, her voice trembling.

"They will believe us," Ruan vowed, his dark eyes serious and cold. "Cole has all the security videos from Julian house. The cameras caught Arthur with that knife over your belly and also tried to kill us today. It’s clear self-defense."

Aysel nodded slowly, closing her eyes. She rested her head on his chest, letting exhaustion pull her into sleep.

The next morning, sunlight flooded through the cabin window, waking them up.

Ruan found an old set of clean clothes in the closet. He changed out of his bloody pants and put on a simple shirt.

They walked out of the cabin and found an old black car parked under the trees. Ruan started the engine quickly and drove them back into the city.

They arrived at the city police station. The tall building looked scary and intimidating, making Aysel's stomach tie into tight, painful knots.

"Hold my hand," Ruan said softly, grabbing her fingers tightly. He walked through the glass doors and approached the main front desk.

A hefty police detective looked up from his paperwork, his eyes widening in shock as he recognized the billionaire.

"Ruan Sinclair," the detective gasped, jumping up from his chair. His hand dropped toward his gun. "Put your hands in the air right now!"

"I’m turning myself in," Ruan said calmly, placing his own gun on the desk and holding his empty hands up high. "I shot Arthur Herrington last night. I killed him to save my wife."

Ten police officers rushed into the lobby, grabbing Ruan's arms quickly. They didn’t put handcuffs on him, they just led him and Aysel into an interview room.

They sat in the room for two hours, telling the detective everything that happened, sharing their story about Julian, and crying as they explained how they lost their baby.

Suddenly, the interview door swung open, and Cole walked in, holding his tablet.

"I brought the proof, detective," Cole announced, placing the tablet on the table and pressing the play button for the police to see.

The video showed Arthur breaking into the yellow nursery, kicking Julian in the face, and raising the knife over Aysel's stomach.

The detective stared at the screen, letting out a long sigh. He closed his notepad.

"This is clear, undeniable self-defense, Mr. Sinclair," the detective said softly, looking at Ruan with understanding eyes. "Arthur Herrington was a dangerous monster. You had every right to pull that trigger to save your family."

"So we can go home?" Aysel asked quickly,

"You are free to go," the detective said, nodding as he opened the door. "We will handle the paperwork. I’m very sorry for your loss."

Ruan stood up quickly, pulling Aysel into hug. He kissed the top of her head, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders.

"Let’s go home, baby," Ruan whispered, grabbing her hand and walking out of the police station.

Kai walked slowly down the hallway, holding a small paper cup of coffee. He stopped in front of a door.

He pushed the door open and entered the hospital room, looking down at Julian lying on the bed.

Julian was hooked to machines, bandages covered his entire stomach where Arthur had kicked him, and his face was marked with dark purple bruises.

"Kai," Julian whispered weakly, opening his eyes. His voice sounded like cracked, dry leaves. "Is she safe? Did Arthur hurt her?"

"She’s safe, Julian," Kai said softly, pulling a plastic chair up to the bed and sitting down with a heavy sigh. "Ruan saved her. Arthur is dead."

Julian closed his eyes tightly, a hot tear rolling down his cheek and hitting the pillow.

"I’m going to prison," Julian said, choking out his words. "I kidnapped her, Kai. I broke into his house and took her away. I deserve to rot in a cell for the rest of my life."

"You are not going to prison, Julian," Kai said firmly, shaking his head. He watched Julian’s eyes widen in shock.

"What do you mean?" Julian gasped, wincing as pain hit his stomach.

"Ruan called me from the police station an hour ago," Kai explained, taking a slow sip of his coffee. "He told the detectives you tried to stop Arthur. He showed them the video of you fighting for Aysel’s life."

"Ruan defended me?" Julian asked, disbelief shaking his voice. He knew he had caused Ruan so much pain.

"He isn’t pressing charges against you," Kai nodded slowly. "Ruan said you that you took a beating to save his wife, so he considers your debt paid."

Julian covered his face with shaking hands, sobbing loudly. He felt incredibly grateful and ashamed of his actions.

"I will never bother them again," Julian cried out, his voice muffled behind his hands. "I’m leaving this city the second I heal. I swear I will disappear forever."

"That’s a smart choice, Julian," Kai agreed softly. He stood up from the chair and walked toward the door. "Get some rest, start a new life, and leave everything behind."

Kai walked out of the hospital and got into his car, driving as fast as he could to see mina.

The gates of the island swung open, he noticed Ruan's black car already parked in the driveway.

Kai walked through the doors of the house.

Mina ran across the carpet, wearing her fluffy pink sweater. She threw her arms around Kai's neck, hugging him so tightly he almost fell backward.

"You’re back," Mina smiled, burying her face in his chest and kissing his neck softly. "I was so worried about you all day."

"I am right here, my baby," Kai laughed happily, wrapping his arms right around her waist, kissing her soft lips deeply,

Ruan and Aysel were sitting together on the sofa, looking so tired but peaceful. Ruan had his arm wrapped around Aysel, resting his chin on top of her head, while Aysel leaned completely into his chest.

The house was very quiet, but it did not feel cold or scary anymore, it just felt like a real, true home.

They lost a huge piece of their hearts, the deep, sad pain of losing their baby would probably ache for a very long time, but looking around, Aysel finally knew they were going to survive it.

"We are going to be okay," Aysel whispered softly, looking up at Ruan's face, touching his bandaged shoulder very gently.

"We are going to be more than okay," Ruan promised, his eyes shining with love, kissing her mouth tenderly, "we are going to build a new world together, Aysel, just you and me."
