Chapter 146 Can't Sleep in a Different Bed

Bella looked at Amelia's slightly pale face and suggested, "Amelia, the weather is nice today. How about we take you outside to get some sun? The garden at Serenity Retreat is beautiful, and the flowers are in full bloom right now."

Rhys excitedly chimed in, "Yes, yes! Ms. Boleyn, I'll take Snowy to play in the garden!" As he spoke, he eagerly grabbed Snowy's leash.

Amelia glanced at the bright sunshine outside and felt a bit tempted. It was her day off, and staying alone in the house was indeed a bit dull.

"Alright," she nodded, "a walk would be nice."

Bella brought over the wheelchair, "Amelia, let me help you."

Amelia did not refuse and obediently sat in the wheelchair.

The servants would come later to help with the move, and there was still plenty of time.

Bella pushed the wheelchair slowly along the tree-lined path of the community. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, and sunlight filtered through the gaps, casting dappled patterns on the ground.

"Amelia!" A slightly flippant voice broke the tranquility.

Amelia looked up to see Wilder leaning nonchalantly against a tree with his hands in his pockets, a usual cynical smile on his face.

"Wilder? What are you doing here?" Bella eyed Wilder warily, feeling that he was up to no good.

Wilder approached, his gaze falling on Amelia's legs, "What happened? Did you hurt your foot?"

Amelia explained lightly, "I accidentally fell."

"Fell? That serious?" Wilder raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical.

Bella stood protectively in front of Amelia, her tone unfriendly, "What business is it of yours?"

Wilder chuckled, "Ms. Talbot, don't be so tense. I'm just concerned about an old friend." He turned to Amelia, "Can we talk for a bit?"

Bella was about to refuse, but Amelia held her hand, "Bella, go catch up with Rhys and Snowy. Don't let them get lost."

Bella hesitated, still a bit uneasy, "But?"

Amelia gave her a reassuring look, "It's fine. I'll just talk to him for a bit and come back."

Reluctantly, Bella left, but not without giving Wilder a fierce glare.

After Bella left, the atmosphere became somewhat tense. Wilder's flippant expression faded, and his gaze on Amelia grew serious.

"Amelia, you should leave Dorian," Wilder said earnestly, with a hint of admonition.

Amelia's eyes lifted slightly, her cool gaze falling on Wilder, waiting for him to continue.

"You and he are not the same kind of people," Wilder paused, then continued, "Did you make some kind of deal with him? If so, I can help you regain your freedom. If you need people, I have people; if you need money, I have money."

His words were firm, as if Amelia only needed to nod, and he could immediately fulfill his promise.

Amelia looked at Wilder, her eyes devoid of any emotion, "On what grounds are you advising me?"

Wilder took a deep breath, his tone resolute, "I like you, Amelia. Whether you believe it or not, my feelings for you are genuine." He paused, his tone growing heavier, "And Nora, that lunatic, you know what kind of person she is. She will definitely come after you."

Amelia's lips curled into a mocking smile, "How do you know I'm not more ruthless than Nora?"

Wilder was taken aback, then shook his head, "You're not that kind of person."

"How do you know?" Amelia retorted, her tone carrying a hint of coldness.

Wilder couldn't find the words. He couldn't be sure, only going by his intuition. To him, Amelia, though aloof, was not bad.

Amelia chuckled softly, "You, spoiled and pampered, have never seen the true darkness of human nature."

Wilder was stung by her words, his face turning a bit sour.

Amelia's smile faded, her tone calm, "I have no plans to leave Dorian for now. I appreciate your concern. And a word of advice, don't come near me again."

Wilder was unwilling, "Why? Why won't you give me a chance?"

Amelia was straightforward, "I've told you many times, you're not someone I'm interested in."

A look of defeat flashed across Wilder's face. He knew Amelia's rejection was final. He gave her a long, deep look before turning and leaving.

Bella returned with light steps, seeing Amelia sitting alone in the wheelchair, her expression unchanged, seemingly unaffected by Wilder.

"Amelia, did Wilder do anything to you?" Bella asked worriedly, her tone carrying a hint of vigilance. She knew Wilder's feelings for Amelia and was aware of the kind of heart hidden beneath his flippant exterior.

Amelia shook her head gently, a faint smile on her lips, "What could he do to me? Don't worry." Her tone was calm, as if what had just happened was not worth mentioning.

Bella finally relaxed, letting out a sigh of relief, "That's good, that's good. Let's go back to Serenity Retreat and pack up."

Amelia responded softly.

Inside Serenity Retreat, the servants were already methodically packing up. Amelia didn't have many belongings, so it was quickly done. Snowy wagged his tail happily, seemingly excited about the upcoming move.

Amelia held Snowy as Bella pushed the wheelchair, leaving Serenity Retreat.

A black Maybach was parked at the entrance of The Talbot Villa. Dorian, dressed in a black suit, stepped out of the car. Seeing Bella pushing Amelia, he raised an eyebrow slightly, "You're here?"

Amelia nodded slightly, acknowledging his greeting. She wondered to herself, how did he know she was moving here? She hadn't told him.

Dorian seemed to read her mind, his lips parting slightly, his tone indifferent, "I guessed they would bring you back."

He walked up to Amelia, looking down at her, "How's your injury?"

Amelia looked up, meeting his deep eyes, and answered calmly, "Much better."

"Good." Dorian responded, then turned and entered the villa.

Bella pushed Amelia, following behind, muttering softly, "Uncle Dorian is so easygoing today. How strange."

Amelia didn't respond. She couldn't figure out Dorian's personality and didn't want to waste energy trying to.

Bella pushed Amelia into a warmly decorated room, "Amelia, you'll stay here. How is it?"

Amelia looked around. The room was clean and tidy, with good lighting. She nodded, "It's nice."

"That's good, that's good." Bella said with a smile, "I'll help you bring in your luggage."

Rhys also came over to help, moving Amelia and Snowy's belongings into the room.

"Snowy, this will be our home from now on." Amelia patted Snowy's furry head, her tone gentle. Snowy nuzzled against her, letting out a contented sound.

After settling everything, Bella and Rhys left.

Amelia gently closed the door, and the room fell silent. Snowy rubbed against her feet, seemingly satisfied with the new environment.

Amelia bent down to pick up Snowy and sat on the bed. The soft mattress felt a bit unfamiliar. After staying at Serenity Retreat for so long, she had gotten used to the beds there. Her habit of being picky about beds kicked in, and she tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

Outside, the night was deep, with only a few sparse stars dotting the dark blue sky. The room was quiet, with only the faint ticking of the clock on the wall, each tick tapping on Amelia's nerves.

Meanwhile, Dorian's study was still brightly lit. He sat at his large desk, his brow furrowed, holding some documents but unable to focus on a single word. The progress of the company's new project was troubling him, and he hadn't slept well for several nights.

Frustrated, he tossed the documents onto the desk and walked to the window, lighting a cigarette and taking a deep drag. The nicotine calmed him slightly, but the restlessness in his heart remained.

After an indeterminate amount of time, Dorian stubbed out the cigarette and turned to head to his bedroom. However, perhaps due to his fatigue or his subconscious concern for Amelia, he found himself standing at the door of Amelia's room.
