Chapter 132 A Severe Beating

"That one?" She pretended to laugh lightly, "It's a suit Alaric ordered from Mr. Ford. I got a call from Isolde just as I was leaving Splendid Workshop, asking me to bring it back, but I forgot."

Dorian looked at her slightly panicked eyes, half-believing.

"Alaric?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, Isolde's brother." Amelia tried to stay calm, secretly praying that Dorian wouldn't ask any more questions.

Dorian stared at her for a few seconds but ultimately didn't continue questioning. He just responded lightly and turned to leave.

Amelia secretly breathed a sigh of relief and turned back to continue battling the burnt eggs.

Snowy squatted at her feet, looking up, seemingly puzzled as to why today's breakfast smelled so strange.

Amelia looked at the burnt eggs and sighed helplessly. It seemed she really needed to learn how to cook properly.

Dorian sat at the dining table, looking at the blackened eggs in front of him, his brow slightly furrowed.

"Sorry, I was hungry this morning and wanted to try cooking. Just make do with it," Amelia explained awkwardly.

Dorian picked up a fork and lightly poked the egg. The blackened surface cracked open, revealing the half-cooked egg inside. He put down the fork, picked up a napkin to wipe his mouth, and said calmly, "Let's wait for Heath to bring breakfast from now on."

Amelia was stunned for a moment, then gently nodded.

The next day, sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Serenity Retreat, casting dappled shadows on the floor.

After work, Amelia curled up on the soft sofa, holding a tablet, the screen flickering with complex codes and data streams.

"Jace, how's it going?" She asked casually, her tone devoid of any emotion.

Jace's deep voice came from the other end of the phone, "Phoenix, I've successfully hacked into Marvin's home computer and backup machine. I found records of him arranging vehicles to block the fire escape."

Amelia's slender fingers tapped lightly on the screen, making a crisp sound. "Is that all?"

"Yes, I haven't found any records of him directly hiring someone to set the fire," Jace replied truthfully.

Amelia squinted slightly, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. "No evidence doesn't mean he's not the culprit," she said with certainty, a hint of coldness in her voice. "Keep digging. I refuse to believe we can't find evidence of his crimes."

"Understood," Jace replied succinctly.

Amelia hung up the phone, tossed the tablet aside, and picked up the water cup on the table, taking a light sip. She knew in her heart that Marvin was definitely the real culprit behind the Harbor City orphanage fire, but they still lacked crucial evidence.

"Snowy, where do you think Marvin would hide the evidence?" She looked down at Snowy lying at her feet and asked softly. Snowy seemed to understand her words, lifting his head and nudging her hand with his wet nose.

"Looks like you think he's suspicious too," Amelia smiled, reaching out to stroke Snowy's soft fur. "Don't worry, I'll find the evidence and make him pay."

Not long after, Jace sent another message: "Ms. Boleyn, I've tracked Marvin's movements. He'll be at a private club in the suburbs tonight."

"Got it," Amelia replied, a determined look flashing in her eyes. She got up, changed into a black tracksuit, and tied her hair into a high ponytail, looking sharp and ready.

As night fell, the private club in the suburbs was brightly lit. Amelia parked her car by the roadside, put on a mask and hat, and silently slipped into the club.

Following Jace's information, she found the private room where Marvin was. Through the crack in the door, she saw Marvin laughing and chatting with a few men, holding a suitcase full of cash.

Amelia didn't act immediately but observed Marvin's every move from the shadows.

When Marvin left the club and walked alone to the parking lot, Amelia emerged from the darkness.

She quickly approached and struck Marvin on the back of the neck with a single hand. Marvin let out a muffled groan and collapsed to the ground.

Amelia took a burlap sack from the trunk, stuffed Marvin into it, and drove Marvin's car away from the scene.

She drove to a secluded spot and dragged the sack out of the car.

"Marvin, you killed so many innocent children. Today, I'm going to make you pay!" Amelia said through gritted teeth.

She untied the sack and started punching and kicking Marvin.

"Speak! Who ordered you to set the fire?" Amelia demanded in a harsh voice.

Marvin, beaten black and blue, refused to speak.

"Looks like you won't talk no matter what!" Amelia sneered and raised her fist again.

Just as Amelia's fist was about to land another blow, the sound of a car engine came from a distance, growing louder and closer.

She abruptly stopped, looking warily in the direction of the sound. Two blinding headlights pierced the night, illuminating her slightly disheveled figure.

"Damn it!" Amelia cursed under her breath, quickly stuffing Marvin back into the sack. She didn't want to be mistaken for a kidnapper, even though her actions were no different from one.

The engine noise grew louder, and it was clear the approaching car had noticed the commotion. Amelia made a quick decision, abandoning the sack and running away.

She moved swiftly, disappearing into the darkness with a few leaps, leaving behind the discarded sack and the approaching car lights.

Two people got out of the car, cautiously approaching the sack.

"What's in there?" One of them nervously kicked the sack.

A groan came from inside the sack.

The two exchanged a terrified look, seeing the fear in each other's eyes. One of them quickly untied the sack, revealing the unconscious, battered Marvin. They gasped in shock and quickly ran away.

Amelia ran until she was sure no one was following her, then slowed down. She removed her mask and hat, tossing them into a roadside trash can.

The dim streetlights flickered, casting a glow on Marvin's swollen face. He groaned in pain, struggling to get out of the sack.

A cold wind blew, making him shiver. The pain in his neck came in waves. He fumbled in his pocket, pulling out his phone. The screen was cracked but still usable.

"Lucy, send someone to pick me up," Marvin's voice was weak and trembling.

Soon, a black car sped to Marvin's location. The door opened, and Lucy rushed out, shocked at Marvin's disheveled appearance.

"Mr. Hill! What happened to you?"

"Don't ask, just get me to the hospital!" Marvin shouted angrily.

At the hospital, doctors were treating Marvin's injuries.

"Mr. Hill, your injuries are severe. You need to stay in the hospital for observation."

"Damn it!" Marvin gritted his teeth, "Who did this? Who dared to attack me?"

He suddenly remembered the black-clad figure, striking with deadly precision, clearly intending to kill him. Was it a business rival? Or...
