Chapter 22 Speak for her
Dylan had delicate and handsome features, standing out among the many CEOs at the dinner party. In the past, he had always had a carefree hairstyle, but now it was neatly combed back with hair gel, giving him a more mature look. Heidi was surprised to see him among their business partners.
"Dylan, what are you doing here?" she asked.
Dylan's expression also froze for a moment as he glanced at Victoria behind him, furrowing his brows slightly. But he remained polite to Heidi, standing up and extending his hand.
"Long time no see. I heard you joined your family's company, and now we're working together," he said with a smile.
The people around them complimented the two beautiful ladies, and Heidi introduced Victoria to them. Victoria felt Dylan's displeased gaze on her, and it took her a while to sit down on the chair.
Heidi looked at Dylan and said, "I heard you're going to be engaged to Erica. You're already engaged, yet you still come out to socialize?"
Dylan's face changed slightly. "Yes, we're getting engaged. We've known each other since we were kids, and we've set a date. I'll definitely invite you all."
Heidi slammed her pen on the table. "No need. I don't want to bring bad luck."
The others at the table were surprised to see the Miller family's eldest daughter being so stubborn and disrespectful. Dylan was embarrassed, but he couldn't help directing his angry gaze at Victoria.
Victoria kept her head down, fumbling with the white cup in front of her.
Feeling his gaze, she felt an unbearable pain in her heart. If it were someone else, she could bear it, but it was him, and she felt uncomfortable no matter what.
There was a time when they went to school together, went home together, and studied in the library together. His gaze at her was always gentle and warm. When did everything change?
Perhaps it was when Erica came back and she became the Griffin family's adopted daughter. The two who never fought began to argue slowly. His words became more and more hurtful, and she always thought she had done something wrong. Now she knew that when someone's heart is not with her, no matter what she does, it is wrong, and no matter what she says, it is annoying.
Unable to withstand his questioning gaze, she got up and walked out. "I'm going to the bathroom."
But not long after she left, his voice came from behind.
"Victoria, I didn't expect you to be this kind of person."
Victoria turned around and saw disappointment in his gaze.
"What kind of person am I?" she asked with a bitter smile.
"Why did you talk to Heidi about our problems?" he questioned her.
Victoria found it funny. "You were so open about it in the group chat, how did it become me who said it?"
"It's ridiculous. If it weren't for you talking behind my back, why would she treat me that way? We broke up peacefully, but you slandered me behind my back, didn't you?"
Victoria laughed at herself, "Slander you? Would you believe me if I said I never said anything about you to her?"
Dylan looked at her with a face full of distrust, "Don't look so pitiful. You always act like you're so good to me, making me feel guilty if I'm even slightly less nice to you. Erica never does that. She never tells me anything, unlike you!"
"Haha...is that why you slept with her behind my back?" Victoria's eyes turned red as she finally couldn't hold it in anymore.
"You..."
Victoria stared at him, "Isn't what I said the truth? You two were already together a long time ago. Now you're telling me it's all my fault, that I put the bed in front of you and made you sleep with her?"
Dylan's face turned black.
Victoria didn't want to say anything else.
Yes, it was all her fault. She had to tell him everything she did for him.
Erica wouldn't have done that.
So she wanted to ask him, if Erica didn't tell him, how did he know?
She was wrong, she was too much of a failure. She didn't learn how to be a green tea like Erica, and instead told people behind his back. She was too straightforward and didn't know how to scheme, so she failed.
Heidi walked out from behind them at this moment.
"Dylan, what are you doing? I'm here and you still dare to bully Victoria!"
Xu Teng pulled Victoria behind her without hesitation.
Dylan looked at the two of them with a black face, "Fine, fine, you believe her. Heidi, one day you'll be left with nothing by her, and then you'll know what kind of person she really is."
After speaking, Dylan gave her a fierce look and walked away. "Are you crazy?" Heidi cursed at his back, watching Dylan get farther and farther away. Victoria grabbed her, not wanting her to go after him. Heidi was still angry, even though she knew he couldn't hear her, she continued to curse under her breath, "Being fooled by someone like Erica, thinking everyone is as foolish as you, hmph..."
The dinner ended on a sour note.
Back at home, Master Miller was angry with Heidi. "How could you argue with him? You know our brand wants to enter Clark Family's mall this time. If you make things difficult for him, how are we going to get in?"
Heidi pouted, "It's his fault for being so heartless and bullying Victoria."
Victoria stood behind her, "Uncle, I'm sorry, it's all my fault. If I didn't go, they wouldn't have argued."
Master Miller looked at the two children, "Oh well, you're still young and don't understand these things. Fortunately, it seems that Clark Family isn't that angry. Maybe if you coax Dylan nicely, it'll be okay. He's still young."
Heidi continued to mutter under her breath, who would want to coax such a fool like him.
Victoria felt very guilty.
At night, she stayed at the Miller Family and shared a room with Heidi.
Heidi hugged her, "I told my dad, starting tomorrow, you'll come to my company. Although you're studying architectural design, you can start as my assistant. That way, we can work together."
Victoria looked at her gratefully. She had caused trouble for her, but Heidi still treated her like this, making Victoria feel even more uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, at the Duncan Family, Victoria was still in his room, wiping the messy piano. Elijah said from behind, "Sir, do you really not need to find Miss Griffin? What about our plans?"
Brandon's dark eyes turned, cold light flashing.
"Elijah quickly shut his mouth and dared not speak again. 'Don't ever mention that woman's name to me again in the future!'"
