Chapter 90
I blinked, thinking I must have heard wrong.
I wanted to ask more questions, but Jason came over carrying the fruit basket I'd bought.
He smiled and said, "Why are you all standing at the door? Let's go in."
As he spoke, Jason freed up one hand to hold mine.
Kelly followed beside me, full of excitement, her gaze so intense I couldn't ignore it.
I tried my best to ignore it and ran into Charles, who came up to greet me. "Sister Sue, we meet again."
"Hello," I felt a bit awkward.
The last time I saw Charles, I had clearly stated that I was just Jason's colleague.
I didn't expect that when we met again, I'd become Sister Sue, though I hadn't agreed to it.
"Nice job," Jason commented from the side. The slight smile on his lips made it obvious to anyone that he was in a very good mood.
Charles's eyes lit up as he moved closer to me. "Sister Sue, did you just get off work? Are you tired? Are you thirsty? Should I get you some water? Or juice? Soda's fine too, we have everything at home."
I was so embarrassed that I didn't know what to do with my hands and feet.
"No need, thank you."
"Alright." Before Charles could say more, Jason pulled me into the main hall.
Everyone's eyes in the hall immediately turned toward us.
I felt a bit nervous.
Jason secretly squeezed my palm to comfort me.
"Let me introduce everyone. This is Sue, Jessica's biological mother, and also the woman I love. She'll become my wife in the future." Jason's tone was matter-of-fact.
But I felt uncomfortable all over.
We broke up five years ago!
What was he saying in front of his family?
I never agreed to marry him!
Grandma Cooper was thrilled and said, "Sue is finally meeting everyone else in the family."
Jason turned to look at me and introduced the family members. "This is Grandma, my dad, aunt, and uncle, and those two are my aunt's kids who were just chatting with you."
I greeted them and then sat down on the sofa with Jason.
Thomas cleared his throat and tried to put on a kind expression as he asked me, "How many people are in your family now?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Grandma Cooper jabbed him hard in the arm with her elbow!
Thomas winced and asked Grandma Cooper with surprise and innocence, "Mom, why'd you hit me? I didn't say anything too much, did I?"
"You sure know how to pick topics!"
Grandma Cooper scolded him, then smiled reassuringly at me. "It's okay, you don't have to answer any questions you don't want to."
I smiled with pursed lips, feeling warmth in my heart. "It's fine."
I shook my head gently, not feeling there was anything I couldn't say, so I replied, "There's my mom at home, and an older brother."
"I see, that's good, that's good." Because of Grandma Cooper's earlier warning, Thomas obviously didn't dare ask more questions and could only nod repeatedly with a smile.
Grandma Cooper smiled and took my hand, looking at the others. "Alright, you all go do your own things now. I want to chat with Sue!"
"Okay, I'll go play chess with Dad." Jason was the first to speak, responding to Grandma Cooper's command.
"Then I'll go play video games with my little bro." Kelly dragged Charles upstairs.
Only one middle-aged woman remained sitting on the sofa.
I secretly glanced at her a couple of times.
I remembered she was Jason's aunt, Lucy Cooper.
Grandma Cooper glanced at Lucy but ignored her, looking at me with a smile instead.
"Sue, don't be afraid. From now on, I'll support you. Whether Jason bullies you or you're wronged outside, you can tell me, and I'll definitely help you."
This was the first time an elder had ever said something like this to me.
I looked at Grandma Cooper with emotion and nodded firmly. "Thank you, Grandma."
"I liked you from the moment I first saw you!"
Grandma Cooper's smile paused, then turned to sympathy. "These five years must have been so hard for you, raising Jessica all by yourself. You must have been exhausted, right?"
Lucy said coldly from the side, "Mom, there are plenty of women in Seaside City who'd be willing to have Jason's baby. She just did something others would be willing to do. What's there to talk about?"
Grandma Cooper glared at her irritably and snorted. "Forget it! Besides my Sue, I don't approve of anyone else!"
Lucy frowned, her tone carrying some helplessness. "With Jason's qualifications and the Cooper family's background, the women who want to marry Jason could form a line from here to France. What kind of woman couldn't he have?"
Grandma Cooper glared at Lucy with displeasure. "If that were really true, after all these years, why haven't we seen him bring anyone home? Sue and Jason are the perfect match!"
Hearing Grandma Cooper's retort, I couldn't help but smile.
Grandma Cooper was really too cute.
Lucy's expression didn't look good as she frowned. "Even if you say that, you can't deny the fact that Jason is popular. He has good qualifications, he's handsome, so naturally he has many choices."
"If you really have nothing to do, go help in the kitchen! Stop annoying me here!" Grandma Cooper angrily shooed her away.
Lucy's lips moved. She wanted to say something more, but the words stayed on the tip of her tongue before she swallowed them back.
She stood up unhappily and walked toward the kitchen.
After Lucy left, Grandma Cooper pulled me close to comfort me.
"Sue, don't take what she said to heart. To Grandma, you're the best, and you're the only Sue that Grandma recognizes."
I felt warmth in my heart and shook my head with a smile to show I didn't mind.
After all, from the beginning, I never thought I would marry Jason.
I came here today simply so Jessica could integrate well into the Cooper family.
Dinner was very rich.
Lucy didn't say anything unpleasant, and the atmosphere during the meal was good.
After dinner, everyone sat on the sofa chatting, and naturally, the topic centered around Jessica.
Thomas and Grandma Cooper's love for Jessica was obvious. Whenever I looked, Jessica was either in one person's arms or on another's lap.
The affection they showed Jessica was genuine.
What I didn't expect was that Lucy also really liked Jessica.
This made me secretly breathe a sigh of relief and feel a surge of pride.
This was the child I had carefully raised, so naturally I hoped she could receive more love.
I looked around and picked a single-seat sofa to sit on.
I thought this way I could avoid Jason, but unexpectedly, Jason walked over to me. "Sue, make some room for me."
