Chapter 322
Chapter 322
I couldn't help it and burst out laughing.
"Stop laughing!"
Jason complained with a wronged expression:
"Boys are so scary, I'm seriously going to lose it."
Just as he was talking, the bedroom door was pushed open.
Jessica walked in wearing pink pajamas, rubbing her eyes.
"Dad, Mom, good morning."
Jessica's voice was soft and sweet, well-behaved like a little angel.
Jason's eyes lit up instantly.
He quickly jumped out of bed, scooped Jessica into his arms, and gave her a big kiss.
"My sweet daughter!"
Jason spun around with Jessica in his arms:
"Daughters are the best! So thoughtful!"
Jessica was a bit confused at first, not understanding why Jason was suddenly so enthusiastic.
But she quickly broke into a smile, wrapping her arms around Jason's neck:
"Dad, will you take me to buy new toys today?"
"Sure! Buy whatever you want!"
Jason waved his hand grandly:
"Dad's not going to work today, I'll take you shopping all day!"
I leaned against the headboard, watching the father-daughter duo, shaking my head helplessly.
Jason's favoritism toward Jessica was absolutely ridiculous.
If there really were two boys in my belly, he'd have a rough time ahead.
After breakfast, Jason actually canceled all his work and took Jessica and me to the biggest children's mall in the city center.
Jessica ran ahead, Jason followed behind her.
I walked slowly at the back, watching their figures, feeling peaceful inside.
The toys Jessica wanted were different from what ordinary kids played with.
She liked science experiment kits or problem sets.
The mall's selection was too ordinary, Jessica didn't really like anything.
Jason immediately said:
"Dad will have someone custom-make them for you."
Jessica's face lit up: "Thank you, Dad!"
Since there were no toys she wanted, we went out to eat.
By coincidence, there was another couple in the restaurant with a little boy.
The boy was incredibly naughty, jumping around the restaurant, completely ignoring his parents' scolding and discipline.
Jason looked at me with a meaningful gaze:
"Honey."
His expression was serious.
"What?"
"If it really is two boys, let's send them to boarding school."
Jason suggested earnestly:
"Save ourselves the headache."
How much does he dislike having sons!
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows onto the Persian carpet.
I was leaning on the chaise lounge, holding a glass of warm milk, with a tablet in front of me playing the company's newly launched series.
The plot had reached its climax, with the male lead pinning the female lead against the wall, his eyes red.
I hit pause and called Lily.
"The plot's wrong."
I got straight to the point.
The sound of keyboard typing came from the other end, and Lily asked:
"What instructions does Ms. Wilson have now?"
"The male lead shouldn't force a kiss here, he should kneel directly. The female lead suffered so much, why should she forgive him just because he shed a few tears? Tell the writer to change it, add five episodes of the male lead groveling to win back his wife. Make him stand in the rain, go bankrupt, get slapped by the female lead."
Lily was silent for two seconds, then sighed:
"Sue, the show's already finished and online. How am I supposed to change it now? Drag the actors back to reshoot?"
"Marc just approved next half-year's budget, we have plenty of funds."
I took a sip of milk:
"I'm the boss, I want to watch it."
As my pregnancy progressed, I was becoming uncontrollably demanding.
"Evil capitalist."
Lily gritted her teeth:
"Fine, you're the boss, you call the shots. I'll contact the director about reshooting, but isn't this plot a bit too harsh?"
"Not at all! It's good, I love it, I want to watch it!"
"Fine."
After getting Lily's promise, I hung up, feeling satisfied.
Days at home were really boring.
Marc managed the company perfectly, and Jason had turned our home into a utopia. All I did every day was eat and sleep.
Four in the afternoon.
The sound of a car engine came from the yard.
Soon after, Jessica ran into the living room carrying her pink backpack.
She was holding up a red certificate with gold trim.
"Mom!"
Jessica kicked off her shoes and ran straight toward me:
"I won the gold award!"
She spread her arms, ready to jump into my embrace.
A tall figure appeared at the top of the second-floor stairs.
Jason took the stairs three at a time, his long legs covering the distance, precisely blocking the chaise lounge.
He reached out one hand, grabbed the handle of Jessica's backpack, and lifted her entire body into the air.
Jessica flailed her arms and legs in the air for a moment, then stopped.
"Dad, what are you doing!"
Jessica's eyes widened in protest.
"Keep a safe distance."
Jason set Jessica down on the carpet 3 feet away from me, his expression serious:
"Mom has two babies in her belly. If you rush over like that, you might hurt Mom."
Jessica held up her certificate, looking at me with a wronged expression.
I glared at Jason and beckoned to Jessica:
"Come here, let Mom see."
Jason stood tensely beside us, his hands in a ready-to-defend position.
Jessica carefully walked to my side and handed me the certificate.
I patted her hair:
"Jessica's so great. What reward do you want?"
"I want ice cream."
Jessica's eyes sparkled.
"No."
Jason refused immediately:
"Sue can't eat cold things. If you eat it in front of her, she'll crave it."
I looked at him helplessly.
Ever since Jason found out I was pregnant with twins, his nerves had been stretched to the limit.
If I sneezed, he'd have Owen come to the house with a full set of equipment on standby.
"Jason, are you treating me like a national treasure?"
I put the certificate on the table.
"National treasures aren't as precious as you."
Jason said matter-of-factly, then turned to instruct the butler:
"Go get Jessica that newest set of custom competition test papers."
Jessica cheered and ran off with the butler.
That evening, I had just finished showering.
The phone on the nightstand vibrated.
The screen lit up—it was Maya calling.
My hair-drying motion paused.
Jason was walking over with a hairdryer. Seeing the name on the screen, his brow furrowed instantly.
"Don't answer."
He reached for the phone.
I pressed the answer button first and put it on speaker.
"Sue."
Maya's voice came through the speaker, her tone calm:
"Are you free on Saturday? I'd like to visit."
Jason snatched the phone and said coldly into the microphone:
"She's not available. Owen said she needs rest and can't receive visitors."
"Mr. Cooper is there too."
Maya wasn't surprised. Hearing the refusal, she didn't sound disappointed:
"I just want to thank Sue, I won't disturb you for long."
I pulled the phone back from Jason:
"Saturday morning at ten, I'll wait for you at home."
After hanging up, Jason plugged in the hairdryer, his tone clearly displeased.
"Why are you seeing her?"
He turned on the hairdryer, drying my hair with very gentle movements:
"Maya's a schemer, who knows what she's up to now."
"She's getting married."
I felt the warmth on my scalp:
"In business, it's better to have one more friend than one more enemy. Besides, Coleman Corporation is under her control now."
Jason snorted coldly and said nothing more.
Saturday morning at ten.
