Chapter 229

Chapter 229

Jason tightened his grip around my arm, clinging to me like a giant koala bear.

I shifted my trapped arm helplessly.

"Let go of me first, I'm still working on the frosting."

“Then let’s do it together.” Before I could protest, his much larger hand wrapped around mine.

I paused for a split second, but in the end, I let Jason hold my hand like that.

"Mom, did you really make this cake?"

Jessica looked at the cake in front of her with its somewhat questionable appearance, her expression complicated as she looked at me hesitantly.

I avoided her gaze and looked at Jason instead.

Everything had been going fine at first, and my cake had turned out perfectly.

Until Jason grabbed my hand, and we started working on it together.

That's when things gradually went wrong.

The once smoothly frosted cake somehow became bumpy and uneven, and even the whole cake started looking crooked.

I had been really confident about this cake originally.

Jason's expression didn't change as he handed the cake knife to Jessica.

"This is a cake Mom and Dad made together. Now you get to cut it."

Jessica's gaze lingered on the cake, her look of disgust quite obvious.

She sighed like a little adult and reached out to take the knife.

Fortunately, although the cake didn't look great, it didn't affect how good it tasted.

Jessica cupped her face and praised with wide eyes, "It's really delicious! Mom, you're amazing! This tastes even better than store-bought cakes!"

I smiled, "If it's good, eat more."

"Okay!"

That evening before bed, I went to the study to find Jason.

He was still working, but when he saw me, he immediately stopped what he was doing, "Honey."

I sat on the sofa across from him, studying him seriously.

"Honey, are you hiding something from me?"

"What?"

Jason raised a brow. “My heart is devoted to you, heaven and earth can testify. What could I possibly be hiding?”

I propped my chin up and tilted my head to look at Jason, "You're definitely hiding something from me."

Seeing how certain I was, Jason became interested.

"Why do you say that?"

I looked at Jason seriously and said, "Because you didn't fight with Jessica over the cake today."

Jason stood from behind the desk, approaching with long strides, his tone carrying a hint of outrage.

"Is that really how petty you think I am?"

I looked up at him, completely unaware of the approaching danger, "Isn't it true?"

If it were any other day, Jason would have started competing with Jessica already.

But today he just obediently finished his cake and went back to the study to work.

Very unusual!

Jason walked up to me, leaned down, and pressed his forehead against mine.

Up close, I could even see his thick, curled eyelashes.

"How come I can't hide anything from you?"

Jason let out a low, muffled laugh.

His fingers brushed my cheek, warm and gentle, making my heart soften.

I raised my hand to hold his, insisting, "Tell me quickly, you can't hide things from me."

Jason looked at me deeply and shook his head.

"It's nothing, just some minor trouble at work."

"Really?"

I stared at Jason suspiciously.

But his expression was calm and natural, and I couldn't see anything wrong.

“Honey, seems like you’re free tonight,” he murmured as he pushed me down beneath him. “Why don’t we do something else

As Jason spoke, he pressed me down beneath him.

His eyes were dark and deep, churning with heart-stopping waves, "Last time in the study was so unsatisfying. Honey, you walked in here yourself."

I tried one last struggle, "Honey, let's go back to the bedroom."

Jason raised an eyebrow, "Too late."

I swear, I'm never going to the study again!

My entire body aching, I was carried back to the bedroom by Jason.

Lying powerlessly on the bed, all I had left was a pair of eyes staring resentfully at Jason.

The instigator looked completely satisfied.

He looked at me with a half-smile, "Staring at me so intently like that, could it be you're still not satisfied?"

I immediately looked away.

"No such thing!"

I had originally noticed something was off with Jason and wanted to ask what was going on.

I never expected to end up getting myself into this situation!

“Actually,” Jason said, voice low, “if you really want more, honey, I can continue. As your husband, it’s my duty.”

"No, no, no need! You should go shower, it's late, and you have work tomorrow. Get some sleep early!"

I spoke rapidly, waving my hands repeatedly.

Jason laughed softly, kissed my lips, then grabbed his pajamas and went to the bathroom.

I leaned against the headboard looking at my phone.

Suddenly I received a message from Luke.

Luke: [Sue, you're going too far. We don't owe you anything. Do you really have to push us to the brink like this?]

I frowned.

Is he sick?

Me: [If you have persecution complex, go see a doctor. Stop having episodes in public!]

Luke: [How can you talk like that? Didn't you tell Jason not to help us? Now look, I can't find a job. How are we supposed to live from now on? How am I supposed to take care of Mom in her old age?]

Luke: [Sue, you can't just live the good life yourself and ignore us, can you? You can't be so ungrateful! I'm not expecting you to take care of Mom, but you can't completely block our way out either.]

Looking at Luke's messages, I just found it laughable.

Him take care of Cora in her old age?

His salary was barely enough for himself to live on.

The money for getting married and buying a house before, didn't Cora give him all that?

And that money was originally supposed to be child support from Chris for me.

I don't know where Luke gets the nerve to say such things.

But I noticed Luke mentioned Jason.

They went to find Jason, and then Jason refused them?

Thinking about Jason's slightly unusual behavior today, I immediately understood.

Me: [Not being able to find a job is because you're incompetent. If you want to blame someone, blame Cora for being a mistress for no good reason.]

Me: [Your current situation is all brought on by Cora. You're blaming the wrong person.]

Luke: [That's Mom, how can you say that?]

Me: [She's your mom, not mine.]

After dropping that last line, I turned off my phone.

How annoying!

My good mood was now completely gone.

Just then, the sound of water from the bathroom stopped.

Jason came out of the bathroom drying his hair.

I struggled to get up and took the hairdryer to dry his hair for him.

Jason seemed pleasantly surprised.

"Honey?"

I responded softly, not saying anything.

Jason's brow furrowed slightly. He turned around, took away the hairdryer, and looked at me with concern.

"Honey, what's wrong? Are you unhappy? Did someone bully you? Tell me and I'll go deal with them."

"You."

I slowly uttered one word.

Jason blinked very slowly, "Honey, I admit it was my fault for not stopping when you were crying and asking me to stop earlier, but you seemed pretty comfortable too. If you don't like it, I can restrain myself more next time."

I looked up and met his gaze calmly, "Cora and Luke came to find you, didn't they?"
