Chapter 187
[After all this talk, I still don't know what Jason looks like. Someone post a picture so we can all see.]
[I tried searching online, but I can't find any photos of him!]
Someone threw out an image.
[I screenshot and saved this before.]
[He's this handsome? How could such a good-looking guy be a bad person?]
[Don't be fooled by his appearance, he's a beast in human clothing!]
I scrolled through these comments, feeling both angry and amused.
Were these people all idiots?
They believed whatever anyone said online?
I called Jason, but the line was busy.
Well, that made sense. With everything in chaos online right now, Jason must be swamped.
I didn't call again, just replied to Lily's message.
[Don't worry, it should be fine.]
Even though I said that, I still felt uneasy.
Samuel stood in front of the desk, looking at Jason's grim expression, and said carefully, "I'll have someone take down the trending news first, then block Victoria's parents' accounts."
Jason's phone lay on the desk.
His eyes were cold, "No need, that would just make it look like I'm scared."
"But..."
"Leave the online stuff alone for now. I need you to look into something first."
Before long, Jason called me back.
He knew why I had called, and without much small talk, got straight to the point, "Don't worry about what's happening online, I'll handle it. Just go about your normal life, but don't go out these next couple days, and have Jessica take time off from kindergarten."
Hearing him say this made my heart sink.
"Is it really serious?"
Jason's voice was gentle, with a reassuring tone, "It's all minor stuff, don't worry, I'll have it sorted out soon."
If we couldn't even leave the house, how was this minor?
I figured Jason was just saying this to comfort me.
But right now, there didn't seem to be much I could do to help anyway.
Staying home and not causing Jason any additional trouble was probably the best way to help.
With that thought, I said, "Then you be careful. Come home early tonight, I'll wait for you."
"Okay."
After hanging up, I opened my browser again.
Cade and Kaida were trending high right now. They'd posted a new video continuing to tearfully accuse Jason, with even more likes than the previous one.
If it were Jason, he could definitely take down the trending topics and block their accounts if he wanted to.
But he didn't do that.
Thinking back to how Jason had called earlier telling me not to worry.
I figured he must have some kind of plan.
My anxious heart settled down a bit.
I was cooking in the kitchen when I heard a car in the yard outside, and quickly washed my hands and ran out.
Just as I reached the door, I saw Jason getting out of the car.
"Jason!"
I called out and ran toward him.
Jason took two quick steps and pulled me tight into his arms, bowing his head to kiss my forehead.
"Coming out dressed so lightly, what if you catch a cold?"
I wrapped my arms around his neck, acting cute, "I'm not cold at all."
I'd been so worried about him.
Seeing that he seemed to be in good spirits, I finally felt relieved.
"Put me down, I've got something cooking on the stove."
Jason didn't let go, instead carrying me to the kitchen like this.
Only when we reached the kitchen did he set me down.
His nose twitched, "What are you cooking? Smells great."
"Chicken soup, it's almost ready. Go wait outside."
I said with a smile.
Jason wanted to stay in the kitchen with me, but his phone happened to ring.
He glanced at the caller, bent down to give me a soft kiss on the lips, and went out with his phone.
I smiled and started working on the other dishes.
When I finished cooking and brought the food to the dining room, I looked around but didn't see Jason.
"Daddy's on the balcony taking a call."
Jessica saw what I was thinking and said in her soft voice.
She blinked, "Daddy's been so busy today. I went to find him several times, but he was always on the phone and didn't have time for me."
I ruffled Jessica's hair, comforting her gently.
"That means Daddy is very capable."
After having Jessica sit at the table, I went to the balcony to find Jason.
Just as Jessica had said, Jason was still on the balcony on the phone.
As soon as he hung up one call, another came in.
I walked over to Jason and waited quietly for him to finish this call, then took his phone away.
"Dinner's ready, let's eat first."
Even if the sky was falling, you still had to fill your stomach first.
How could you get anything done on an empty stomach?
Jason smiled warmly, took my hand, and we walked to the dining room together.
After dinner, I gave him back his phone.
"Now you can get back to being busy."
Jason pinched my cheek, kissed me on the lips again, and headed upstairs, already replying to messages on his phone.
I cleaned up the kitchen, put Jessica to bed, and took a shower myself.
I'd planned to wait for Jason before sleeping, but I fell asleep in bed and Jason still hadn't come back.
The next morning.
As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw Jason coming out of the walk-in closet in his suit.
Seeing I was awake, he said softly, "It's still early, Sue, sleep some more."
I looked at him in disbelief, "You're going to the office this early?"
"Yes, to handle some things."
Jason buttoned the last button on his suit.
He walked to the bed and gave me a good morning kiss, "I'm off to work."
"Okay, drive safely."
Jason left, but I couldn't fall back asleep.
I leaned against the headboard and opened my browser.
Sure enough, Cade and Kaida had posted another new video.
They kept crying about how hard things were for them, condemning Jason as an ungrateful wretch.
Even quite a few internet influencers were filming them under the banner of justice, claiming they wanted to make this known to everyone and use public pressure to get Cade and Kaida fairness and justice.
I curled my lip.
That sounded so noble.
They hadn't even bothered to understand what actually happened, yet they were clamoring for fairness?
What about Jason?
How unlucky did he have to be to run into a family like this!
Anger burned in my chest.
But more than that, I felt sorry for Jason.
I don't usually follow the stock market.
Today I was so worried that I checked Glacier Corp's stock performance from yesterday.
It had dropped seven percent.
For Glacier Corp, that was a significant fluctuation.
I had to admit, Cade and Kaida's actions had caused quite a bit of trouble for Jason and Glacier Corp.
The public opinion fermented online for two whole days.
Many internet bloggers actively shared and spread it.
Glacier Corp's official account was nearly overwhelmed by angry netizens.
Just when the public was at its angriest.
The police posted an announcement online.
[Following a report, we worked with foreign police to investigate an incident from three years ago. We successfully apprehended one member of the criminal gang from that time, who has confessed to the crime.]
[Below is the criminal's account of how the crime was committed...]
I read through the announcement word by word, and finally understood what really happened when Victoria supposedly saved Jason that year.
"So that's how it was. Victoria, you really had some nerve!"
