Chapter 179
Flora was shaking with rage, glaring at me through gritted teeth.
Behind me, Kelly couldn't help but snicker.
I curved my lips slightly and continued, "Flora, do you know what Jason said about you?"
Though Flora was angry, curiosity still flickered in her eyes. She asked instinctively, "What did he say?"
I stared into her eyes and said, "He said seeing you makes him want to throw up."
Kelly couldn't hold it in anymore and burst out laughing.
Her laughter seemed particularly inappropriate at this moment.
Flora's face twisted with anger.
"Sue, you bitch! Do you have a death wish?"
I shrugged, "I'm not the one who said it. If you're unhappy, go talk to Jason about it."
Hearing me use Jason as a shield, Flora gritted her teeth and cursed, "Your mom is a mistress, and you're an unwanted bastard! The blood in your veins will always be dirty! You'll be a bastard your whole life! You'll never escape being an illegitimate child. I'll always be more noble than you!"
I tilted my head and asked sincerely, "Does your nobility refer to dating several men at the same time? If so, then I truly can't compete."
Flora said, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Kelly snorted and chimed in, "You didn't? Then was the woman I saw lying across several men's laps a ghost?"
Flora's face darkened terribly.
She gritted her teeth and changed the subject.
"We're talking about your mom being a mistress. Why bring up my business? Sue, don't think that saying this makes you noble. A bastard like you is shameless, just as disgustingly cheap as your mom!"
Cora was clearly in the private room.
But the woman who usually cursed at me without hesitation was now very quiet.
I pulled at my lips, "So what if I'm a bastard? It's not like I held a gun to their heads to make them get together. They didn't ask for my permission when they were having their fun."
Flora didn't expect that my illegitimate status wouldn't hurt me at all, and she nearly went crazy with rage.
Kelly took the opportunity to lean close to my ear and whisper, "Sue, did Jason really say that?"
"No, I made it up."
I was completely frank.
To Jason, he wouldn't even spare Flora a single glance.
Kelly looked at me with admiration and gave me a thumbs up.
Ember, who hadn't spoken, pulled Flora down to sit.
"Enough, just say less."
She shot me a resentful look.
Flora was displeased, "Mom! Why are you stopping me!"
Ember said, "We're not here to argue today."
Flora wanted to say more, but after Ember gave her a warning look, she reluctantly shut her mouth.
Ember looked at Cora, signaling her to speak.
Cora looked unwilling, but still said, "Sue, I heard Jason grabbed several projects from the Miller family. Call Jason right now and tell him to give them back to the Miller family."
A cold smile appeared at the corner of my lips.
So this was why she was so insistent on calling me over.
But I was curious—given Cora's personality, why would she suddenly help the Miller family?
I looked her up and down, "So eager to help—did Tyler agree to let you be his hidden wife?"
Cora's face turned ashen, her temples throbbing.
Luke also darkened, "Sue, are you crazy! How can you talk to Mom like that?"
Ember and her daughter watched us gleefully.
My tone was calm, "What else then? I really can't think of another reason why she'd be willing to help the Miller family."
Luke's expression became somewhat unnatural.
My eyes narrowed slightly.
No, there was one other possibility.
If it was for Luke, it wouldn't be strange for Cora to do this.
Cora shouted, "Tyler is your dad! You're encouraging outsiders to steal his business? Are you even human?"
I laughed coldly, "Jason is my man, my child's father—he doesn't deserve to be called an outsider by you."
"Besides, so what if he's taking Tyler's business? In business, whoever lacks ability deserves what they get!"
"He earns money and not a cent goes into my pocket, but my man is different—when he makes money, he spends it on me. I wish he'd take even more."
Just thinking about how they must look right now made me happy.
Kelly clapped hard, her face full of excitement, "That was amazing!"
I smiled slightly.
Cora clutched her chest, looking like she couldn't accept it, "How did you become like this?"
I raised an eyebrow, "I think being like this is great—happy and carefree!"
Indeed, as long as I didn't care about so-called family ties, she couldn't hurt me.
Cora's lips moved, unable to speak.
Disgust flashed in Ember's eyes before she said, "He's still your biological father. Being this cold-hearted, you'll get your karma sooner or later."
I turned to look at her.
"I've followed the law my whole life, never done anything morally wrong. What karma would I get? If anyone's getting karma, it's certain people."
Ember didn't take my bait, her gaze threatening as she stared at Cora.
Seeing her like this, I became even more certain of my guess.
They'd most likely threatened Cora using Luke.
How interesting!
Cora could only look at me, "Enough fooling around, hurry up and call Jason."
"No."
"What good does this do you? How can you be so cold-blooded?"
"Of course there's good in it—my man earns money and spends it on me. Having money to spend makes me happy."
"But those are the Miller family's projects!"
"If Tyler can't hold onto the projects himself, it shows he's incompetent. Are the projects stamped with the Miller family name? If not, then everyone competes on merit."
"Sue! I'm ordering you to call Jason!"
"What if I just don't?"
"Then don't acknowledge me as your mother! From now on, we're cutting ties—don't even think about entering my home again!"
For Luke's sake, she could even say things about cutting ties.
But I didn't care about this so-called mother-daughter bond anyway.
I stared at Cora, smiling slowly.
Cora's eyes flickered as she said stiffly, "Wh-what are you laughing at?"
"Laughing because you're funny. Since you want to cut ties, let's cut them."
"Sue!"
Cora's voice shot up immediately, clearly not expecting this response.
I picked at my ear, "Why are you shouting? Didn't I already agree to cut ties? But now that I've agreed, you're unhappy."
Luke couldn't take it anymore and scolded me sharply, "Sue, apologize to Mom right now!"
I swept my cold gaze over him, "Nothing to apologize for."
Luke's lips trembled as he pointed at me with a shaking finger, "How did you become like this? Have you lost your mind!"
I laughed coldly, "Cora is groveling like this all for you, isn't she?"
Unease flashed in Luke's eyes.
He looked away and snorted, "I don't know what you're talking about. Right now you're the one being cold and heartless, breaking Mom's heart. And now you want to drag me into this—Sue, you have no heart. An ungrateful wretch like you doesn't deserve all the care Mom has given you over the years!"
