Chapter 178
Cora said, "I can't explain it clearly over the phone."
I had a pretty good idea what this was about.
Tyler had asked Cora to contact me before.
Several days had passed since then, and Tyler had been quiet the whole time.
I thought he'd given up, but turns out he went to Cora again?
I curled my lip, "If you can't explain it over the phone, you can't explain it in person either. Plus, I don't want to see you."
"Sue!"
Cora raised her voice in displeasure, "Are you trying to drive me crazy?"
I sneered, "Don't worry, bad people live forever. In your case, you'll probably be remembered for all the wrong reasons."
"You! Jerk! Ungrateful daughter! I should never have given birth to you!"
Cora's voice trembled with anger.
She was about to continue cursing when Luke took the phone from her.
"Sue, if you don't want something to happen to Mom, come to this address."
I couldn't help but laugh, "With a devoted son like you around, what could possibly happen to her? If she gets sick, you can carry her to the hospital and beg everyone to cure your dear mother! If she wants something, same thing—you can use your devotion to please her and give her whatever she wants at any cost to maintain your good son image! What would I be there for? What's it got to do with me?"
I didn't give Luke a chance to continue and hung up directly.
These days all kinds of jerks are causing trouble.
Kelly stood beside me, carrying shopping bags, and turned to ask with concern, "Sue, was that your mom calling?"
I was also carrying quite a few things.
Today I'd been working with my plants at home as usual.
Kelly called to invite me shopping.
Thinking it was boring to stay home all the time, and since I had nothing else to do anyway, I agreed.
Now that I had money, shopping had become enjoyable.
It was my first time experiencing the joy of buying things without checking prices.
Shopping really could lift your mood.
At least, before Cora's call, I'd been in a great mood.
After they stirred things up like this, my good mood was cut in half.
I forced a faint smile.
"Yeah, she wants to meet me. Says she can't explain over the phone and has to say it in person."
My bad relationship with Cora wasn't a secret.
So I wasn't surprised when Kelly asked me about it.
Her eyes rolled, and she immediately said, "Go! Sue, let's go see what they're plotting! If we don't go, they'll think we're scared!"
Before I could respond, Kelly dropped her shopping bags on the ground and grabbed my phone.
Luke had sent me an address.
I saw it standing next to Kelly.
It was an upscale club I wasn't familiar with, though I'd heard of it when I worked for Brian.
Kelly noticed this too.
She was surprised, "Is your mom rich? Going to a place like that—aren't they afraid of going broke?"
I shook my head, equally puzzled.
Couldn't figure out what she was up to lately.
Kelly didn't think long. She clenched her fist to encourage me, "Sue, don't be scared. We've got backup! No matter who they are, it'll be fine!"
She replied directly to Luke's message: [On our way.]
My lips moved, "We're really going? I don't want to see them."
Kelly clearly misunderstood me.
She took my hand and said seriously, "Sue, don't be scared. I'll protect you. We're going there to take them down!"
Actually, I wasn't scared. I just didn't want to see them.
Bad luck.
Kelly gave me an encouraging look, then pulled me straight to the underground parking garage.
She handed me the car keys, "Sue, you drive. I need to send a message first."
I took the keys and started the car, catching a glimpse of Kelly sending something in a group chat.
I didn't pay much attention.
Maybe she was complaining to her close friends.
After all, my mom was definitely worth complaining about.
When Kelly and I arrived at the club, someone immediately led us to a private room.
When the door opened and I saw who was inside, Kelly and I both froze for a moment.
I quickly figured out what was going on and smiled coldly, "What's the occasion today? The wife and the mistress became best friends and invited me to witness it?"
Everyone in the room fell silent, exchanging glances with unpleasant expressions.
Kelly looked at me with admiration and gave me a thumbs up.
I nodded lightly at her and walked into the room, casually pulling out a chair to sit down.
Kelly stood behind me in a protective stance.
I crossed my legs and leaned back in the chair, "Didn't you want me to come? I'm here. Are you planning to have me witness the wife and mistress together? Or are you going to fight and want me to referee?"
Cora sat on the sofa looking upset, holding her head, seemingly finding this hard to accept.
Luke sat beside her and scolded me disapprovingly, "Sue, have you lost your mind? This is Mom! Do you hear what you're saying?"
I shrugged and spread my hands, "Then how do you explain you all being here?"
Luke frowned tightly, "Does saying that make you look any better?"
"I'm not the one who did anything wrong."
I laughed coldly, "I'm just stating facts. If you can't handle people talking about it, you shouldn't have done it in the first place."
"You!"
Luke was furious, "Sue, you've changed so much we don't even recognize you anymore. Since getting together with Jason, you've become so arrogant! You have no respect for anyone!"
I raised an eyebrow and showed my first genuine smile since entering.
"That's great then."
I loved that confident attitude Jason had.
Now that Luke was saying this, wasn't he basically complimenting me?
Seeing me smile, Luke's face filled with anger.
Flora, standing nearby, couldn't hold back anymore and pointed at my nose, cursing, "Sue, you're really shameless! Don't you understand what he's saying? Your mom is a mistress, which makes you a bastard! Back when your mom seduced my dad and gave birth to you, how do you have the nerve to live in this world?"
I knew she wasn't saying these things just to defend Ember, but also because I was with Jason and had "stolen" the man she loved.
"Flora, shut your mouth! Say one more word about Sue and I'll take you down!"
Kelly's temper was perfectly inherited from Lucy—hot-headed and unable to tolerate anything.
I just sat calmly in my chair, as if the person being cursed at wasn't me.
Back when I was Brian's secretary, working by his side, I was a thorn in many women's sides. What harsh words hadn't I heard?
Flora's words had no impact at all.
"Flora, do you really like Jason?"
I asked out of the blue.
Flora looked at me strangely, "What's it to you?"
"I can tell you like him a lot and fantasize about marrying him."
I paused, then changed the subject with a smile, "But do you know how many abs Jason has? You don't, do you? I do. Do you know where the moles on his body are? You don't, do you? I do too. Do you know how amazing Jason is in bed? You don't, do you? I still know."
