Chapter 158
"Who said that?"
Jason cleared his throat, "I'm just showing my loyalty."
He curved his lips, "And I want you to know that to me, you're the only one who's special."
My face flushed.
"Why are you so smooth-talking?"
"This is called speaking from the heart."
Whatever, Jason was a master at this. I really couldn't out-talk him.
Seeing me go silent, Jason simply pulled the car over to the side of the road. He looked at me with eyes full of worry.
"Sue, are you mad? Don't be mad, I don't have anything going on with anyone, I..."
Before he could finish, I kissed him directly.
Jason froze for a moment, then quickly took control again.
After a lingering kiss, the temperature inside the car had risen quite a bit.
I pushed him away with a red face. Jason reluctantly planted light kisses on my face, "Sue, let's just get married now. That way you can't run away, and everyone will know you're my wife."
I blinked, "Even married people can get divorced."
Jason immediately covered my mouth, "Don't say that, don't say that. Sue, why do you say everything? Don't say such unlucky things."
He was very close, his eyes full of my reflection.
He looked at me seriously, "I mean it, let's get married."
"No."
"Why not?"
"Too fast."
"Not fast. Jessica could be the flower girl."
Jason looked at me pleadingly, "Are you not planning to take responsibility for me? But we've already made love."
Me: "No rush."
Jason: "I'm in a rush."
"Then go marry someone else."
Jason leaned over and bit my lip fiercely.
"Don't say that. We'll only have each other, no one else can get between us."
"You won't let me say anything. Do you want me to be a mute bride?"
"If we don't leave now, the flower and bird market will close."
Hearing this, Jason reluctantly let me go and sat back to drive.
Last time I came with Tamsin, and after going back I asked her a lot of questions about flowers.
Although Tamsin didn't come this time, I was pretty comfortable with selecting them.
While I was picking flowers, Jason just stood to the side with a smile.
We browsed several shops. When we entered the next one, the owner's face lit up with a bright smile when he saw me, greeting me warmly.
"What are you planning to buy today?"
I looked around, "Still buying flowers. Any new varieties recently?"
"Your timing is perfect. New stock just came in yesterday, and here you are today."
The owner led me into the shop, "These are all newly arrived, new varieties. Not only are they easy to care for, they look great when they bloom too."
I carefully checked the condition of the flowers—they were all very healthy. I nodded with satisfaction, "Pretty good. I'll take all these varieties, two pots of each."
"Great."
The owner cheerfully called the staff to get the stock from the greenhouse out back.
I followed the owner to the counter to pay.
The owner's gaze circled around Jason, and his smile took on a knowing quality, "Brought your husband along today?"
I smiled and shook my head, "Not husband yet, but he is the father of my child."
The owner gave me an "I understand" look and nodded at me.
"No wonder your daughter is so beautiful. Not only are you good-looking, but the child's father has great genes too. Really nice! But why didn't I think of this approach back then—finding a more handsome man? Looking at him now makes me question my life choices."
I scanned to pay and smiled slightly, "They're your own, you love them no matter what."
The owner nodded, "That's true. After all, they're your own children. It's hard not to care."
While we were talking, the staff had already brought the flowers over.
I looked up at Jason.
Jason seemed to realize something and slowly raised an eyebrow, "Put them in my car?"
I nodded sincerely, "We only drove one car out."
I wouldn't mind driving separately, but I'm afraid a certain someone would make a fuss.
Jason's expression was a bit complicated.
He probably never imagined that his million-dollar luxury car would one day be used to transport flowers.
I held back a laugh, "If you don't want to, I can call for a car right now."
"No need, let's just do it this way."
Jason took the initiative to roll up his sleeves and move the flowers.
I asked the owner for some clean cardboard and padded the seats with it.
After all, the car seats were real leather. If they got scratched, even if Jason didn't feel bad about it, I would.
We drove home.
After getting out, I wanted to help Jason carry things, but he stopped me, "Leave the heavy lifting to me."
I didn't argue with him. It was almost dinner time anyway, so I went straight to the kitchen to cook.
By the time I had the meal ready, Jason had moved all the flowers to the sunroom and taken a shower, sitting at the dining table fresh and clean.
However, Tamsin still remembered that Jason didn't take her out, and didn't give him a pleasant look all evening.
Jason didn't care at all, calmly adding a piece of ribs to my plate.
My gaze shifted between Tamsin and Jason, and I shook my head rather helplessly.
These two were really like children.
Before bed that night, Jason clung to me again.
He held me tightly, calling out sweetly, "Sue."
I closed my eyes, making a last struggle, "Can't be too late!"
The next day when I woke up, it was already bright outside.
I came out of the bedroom and didn't see Jessica or Tamsin.
But Jason was sitting on the sofa in casual clothes, looking down at the laptop on his lap handling work while drinking coffee.
Used to seeing him in suits and ties every day.
Suddenly seeing him dressed so casually gave me the illusion that he was still a college student.
As if sensing something, before I could speak, Jason had already looked up at me.
He put down his laptop and walked toward me, reaching out to touch my head, "You're awake? Breakfast has already been delivered."
I let Jason lead me to the dining room and asked curiously, "Where are Jessica and Grandma?"
"They went back to the Old Mansion."
I didn't ask more questions and sat down at the dining table.
From the corner of my eye, I caught sight of the breakfast packaging bag.
It had a five-star hotel logo on it.
I drank my porridge sip by sip. Jason sat beside me, reached out to gather my hair, and tied it up not very skillfully.
After doing this, he picked up an egg and brought it to my lips.
I took a bite with his hand still there.
He didn't pull his hand back, just let me eat it bite by bite like that.
After breakfast, I went straight upstairs to the sunroom to organize the flowers we bought yesterday.
Jason came up once in the middle to bring me a plate of cut fruit, then went back to the study to work.
Because I got up late today, breakfast and lunch were combined.
Just past four in the afternoon, Jason pulled me out of the sunroom, "Come on, let's go out to eat tonight."
I had no objections. I changed clothes and went out with Jason.
I never expected that just going out for a meal, I'd run into someone unexpected.
