Chapter 98 Very Strange
10 PM.
Elizabeth took a bite of the potato chip Mabel handed her and then sent out a post on Instagram.
She tagged the fake Yvonne's account.
"I gave you a chance, but you didn’t own up. Now the court's gonna handle it."
There were still plenty of people online at this hour.
It didn’t take long for Elizabeth to see comments pouring in after she posted from the real Yvonne’s account.
"Where's the proof? Show us what you got, or are you just bluffing?"
"Put the evidence out there if you have it."
"Is Quin Agency just desperate? A small company like that resorting to threats, it's already been reported to the cops."
Jade felt a wave of panic when she saw the lawsuit threat.
She called someone, "She says she's gonna sue me. What do I do? Does she really have evidence?"
Della read the message and replied, "Don't worry, I'll send you the final payment right now."
Jade was definitely worried, her heart racing.
But when she saw the notification of sixty thousand dollars deposited into her account, her anxiety was mixed with joy.
Sixty thousand dollars, an amount she’d have to work a long time to earn.
But her happiness didn’t last long.
The real Yvonne posted the evidence on Instagram.
Elizabeth had a habit of recording herself while composing. The recordings didn’t show her face.
She used to record every song she created and showed them to Quinton.
One of the songs she had Jessa sing was actually one she played for Quinton on his birthday three years ago.
Quinton had recorded her then.
The video showed her back to the camera, only capturing her from the neck down.
Holding her guitar, she played and sang.
Thinking of Quinton, Elizabeth logged off Instagram.
"Mabel, I'm gonna take a shower and head to bed."
"Alright."
Elizabeth walked into the bedroom, sat on the couch, and leaned back.
She stared at the ceiling.
Sometimes she didn’t understand why she felt a sense of self-loathing.
It was strange.
Elizabeth sighed, picked up her phone, and made a call.
The call connected.
Elizabeth spoke slowly, "Go to Imperial Garden for the nanny interview."
"Got it, Miss Penrose. Take care of yourself."
"Thank you."
Sloane was hiring a new nanny.
Elizabeth hung up, her expression complicated.
Jade's face turned pale when she saw the real Yvonne’s video.
She was done for.
Her fingers trembled as she dialed the number of the person who had asked her to impersonate Yvonne, but the call couldn’t go through.
Jade decided to save herself and posted an apology on Instagram.
"I'm sorry, I didn’t mean to impersonate Yvonne. Someone paid me to do this. My family is in debt, my mom is sick, and I have younger siblings to take care of."
"I'm drowning in debt, and I have to support my family. I'm really sorry, Yvonne, but I needed the money. I'm so sorry."
Jade's only option now was to position herself as a victim.
People always sympathize with the underdog.
Jade's neighbors knew about her family situation. She got along well with them, and some even spoke up for her.
"She's just a poor kid."
"She works day and night. If possible, Yvonne, please give her a chance to turn over a new leaf."
"If I were that desperate for money, I might do the same thing."
Two voices emerged online: one saying a mistake is a mistake, and the other asking for forgiveness because she's pitiable.
Jade felt a glimmer of hope.
Elizabeth woke up in the morning and read Lyle's message. She then checked Instagram.
Under the real Yvonne's post, there were many comments pleading for Jade.
She was being forced into a moral dilemma.
If she didn't forgive the impersonator, she'd be seen as heartless and cruel.
If she forgave her, some would think she was a pushover.
Indeed, being a good person or a bad person was never easy.
Elizabeth's expression remained calm as she posted on Instagram, "I sympathize with the impersonator's situation. See you in court. Wrong is wrong. I will give money to your mom to support your siblings."
The internet was stunned.
Could she really do that?
Elizabeth's post was flawless.
Sherry saw the Instagram post and her face darkened. Was she having a streak of bad luck lately? Nothing seemed to go right.
Last night, Armando's scrutinizing gaze nearly scared her to death.
Today, the real Yvonne's Instagram post infuriated her.
This plan had been in the works for so long, and now the result was not only unclear about Yvonne's identity but also free publicity for Quin Agency.
Originally, "My Voice" had paused Jessa's recording, but now that the issue was resolved, Jessa was back to recording.
As Sherry fumed, Axel called her with Armando's approval to ask about the situation.
"Miss Scott, at 1 PM today, two nannies will be coming to interview for Miss Johnson's nanny position. Will you be here?"
"Why the sudden change of nannies?" Sherry frowned.
"Mr. Johnson wants a more attentive nanny," Axel replied.
Sherry relaxed upon hearing it was Armando's decision.
He loved Sloane, which meant he had no major issues with her.
After thinking it through, Sherry said to Axel, "You handle the nanny selection."
Axel sighed inwardly, Sherry was clearly more focused on work.
Elizabeth was making coffee for the despondent Yosef when her phone vibrated with a message.
"I got the job."
Elizabeth read the message and silently deleted it.
