Chapter 401: It's All a Scam
Regarding Jane's threat.
At this moment.
Grace felt both fear and anger.
Grace was just a woman from an ordinary family background - how could she compete with Jane, a socialite from such a prominent family?
But how was Grace supposed to get Stefan to come over?
The two of them had only exchanged a few words at the hospital. They weren't close at all right now.
Grace bit her lip and typed out a message to Jane: [Ms. Robinson, I don't even have his phone number. Please, can you give me more time?]
Jane saw Grace's reply and cursed under her breath - useless.
At that moment, at the party, Sloane maintained a polite smile while mingling, discreetly glancing over at Seraphina and Stefan.
The party was almost over, and Stefan was still here, which meant Jane hadn't made any moves.
Honestly, Sloane was a bit disappointed.
---
After returning home from the party, Seraphina could sum it up in one word: exhausted.
Seeing how tired Seraphina looked, Elizabeth felt bad for her. "Go wash up and get some rest."
Seraphina leaned against Elizabeth, "Mommy, dealing with all those people tonight was so tiring. I feel like I still have so much to learn."
Elizabeth gently stroked Seraphina's hair. "As the head of Seraphina Enterprises, you'll have to face even more. It's okay, we'll take it slow. Nobody knows everything from the start. Don't put too much pressure on yourself - you're already doing great."
Hearing Elizabeth's praise, Seraphina broke into a satisfied smile. "Thanks, Mommy. Oh, by the way, Mrs. Nightingale came to the company again this afternoon."
Elizabeth smiled faintly. "I know about that. Go take a shower and get to bed early."
Seraphina nodded and stood up. "Mommy, you and Dad should rest early too. Good night."
After watching Seraphina go upstairs, Elizabeth's face showed a hint of emotion.
Elizabeth turned to look at Timothy. "Mr. Robinson, what does Freya want with me so urgently?"
Timothy squeezed Elizabeth's hand, his voice cool as he said, "Your husband isn't a mind reader."
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. At his age, still acting so childish. But she still gave Timothy his reward first.
After they finished kissing and pulled apart.
Having received his reward, Timothy finally answered Elizabeth's earlier question seriously. "If you want to know what it's about, meet with her. Otherwise, she keeps showing up at Seraphina Enterprises, which is pretty annoying."
Elizabeth listened to Timothy's words and nodded slightly. She knew Timothy had a point.
"Alright," Elizabeth sighed. "I'll arrange to meet her tomorrow and see what she wants."
---
The next morning, as Seraphina was getting ready to leave for work.
Elizabeth told Seraphina that if Freya came to Seraphina Enterprises again today, she should call Elizabeth.
"Okay, got it. Dad, Mommy, Brandon, I'm heading to work."
Not long after Seraphina left, it was time for Brandon to go to kindergarten.
But today Brandon didn't really want to go to school.
Elizabeth watched as Brandon lazily clung to Timothy's leg and wouldn't let go, rubbing her temples.
Sometimes Brandon just didn't want to go to kindergarten.
Timothy dragged Brandon, who was hanging onto his leg, while carrying Brandon's school bag in his hand.
"Daddy, I'm sick today," Brandon blinked his big eyes, looking a bit pitiful. "Daddy, I really don't feel well."
Timothy stopped walking. He looked down at the little attachment on his leg. "I see. I'm planning to take Brandon to get a shot."
A moment of silence.
"Sweet medicine will work, no need for a shot." Brandon licked his lips. Medicine was sweet, but shots hurt.
Elizabeth was speechless. Brandon was such a foodie that he didn't even want to pass up medicine.
Timothy's face was expressionless as he said flatly, "Sweet medicine won't work either. We have to get a shot."
Brandon pouted. After a few seconds, he finally let go of Timothy's leg, puffed out his little chest, and said, "I'm better now. Let's go to school."
He held out his chubby little hand for Timothy to hold.
"Mommy, I'm going to school."
"Elizabeth, we're heading out."
Elizabeth stood at the door, watching Timothy and Brandon's retreating figures, smiling silently.
---
That afternoon, Freya went to Seraphina Enterprises again.
Freya had thought she might not get to see Elizabeth this time either, but surprisingly, Elizabeth agreed to meet with her.
Elizabeth walked into the office and saw Freya sitting in a chair.
Freya now looked thin and worn out, with no energy.
Elizabeth was a bit surprised.
Freya, who always liked to dress up nicely, had changed.
Seraphina left the office first.
This was the first time in over a decade that Freya and Elizabeth, mother and daughter, were meeting face to face.
Freya looked up and studied Elizabeth carefully. A tired smile appeared on Freya's face. "Elizabeth, it's been a long time."
Elizabeth walked over and sat on the sofa, her tone very calm. "Freya, what do you want to see me about?"
Seeing Elizabeth's cool expression and hearing her calm tone, Freya felt uncomfortable.
This was why Freya didn't really like Elizabeth - she seemed cold and unfeeling.
But thinking about Juniper and the others, Freya sighed. "Elizabeth, I came today because there's something I want to discuss with you."
"Discuss?" Elizabeth raised her eyebrows slightly, surprised by Freya's choice of words.
Freya nodded, looking somewhat helpless. "Yes, discuss. I know our mother-daughter relationship isn't good, but now, considering I'm dying soon, I hope you can agree to one thing."
Even hearing Freya say she was dying soon, Elizabeth's expression remained calm, showing no change. "What do you want me to help you with?"
Pain flashed in Freya's eyes. "I still have ten percent of the Nightingale Group shares, plus other assets in my name. After I die, I hope you'll inherit these things. Please don't give up the inheritance no matter what."
Hearing this, Elizabeth didn't respond immediately. She just quietly looked at Freya.
Freya clearly noticed Elizabeth's scrutiny, and feeling both embarrassed and angry, she explained.
"I only recently found out that all these years of Juniper and Gino being good to me was all a lie. They want my shares and my assets.
