Chapter 399: Rejected
Gino happily put on the watch Freya gave him. "Grandma, this watch is so cool. I really like it."
Freya's face showed a kind expression as she smiled. "As long as Gino likes it."
Juniper's face also wore a smile. The watch Gino received was very expensive.
Juniper deliberately said, "Freya, Gino is still in school. He can't wear such an expensive watch. His father doesn't want him to be too extravagant while he's studying."
Herschel didn't want Gino to develop habits of spending money carelessly or getting into partying and entertainment from a young age.
Freya pretended to glare angrily. "I'm just giving Gino a watch. If Herschel dares to get angry, tell him to come find me."
Hearing Freya say this, Gino looked at his mother Juniper proudly, very pleased.
"Grandma, Dad listens to you the most."
Seeing this, Juniper could only smile helplessly. "Then you need to take good care of the watch Freya gave you."
Gino immediately stood up straight, raised his hand, and promised earnestly, "Don't worry, Mom. I'll definitely take good care of this watch!"
Freya watched Gino's serious manner and couldn't help laughing. She kindly reached out her wrinkled hand and patted his head. "Good boy."
She had watched Gino grow up. He had good character, and Herschel, whom she had raised, couldn't possibly be nice to her just because of company shares.
So it must be Juniper who had bad intentions!
After she died, everything she had would go to Herschel. Why was Juniper still playing games with her!
"Juniper, I also bought a ladies' watch for you." Freya opened the drawer, took out a box from inside, and handed it to Juniper.
Juniper didn't really like wearing watches.
But she still took the box, putting on a happy smile. "Thank you, Freya. You really care about us."
Freya smiled meaningfully. "If I don't care about you, who else would I care about?"
Freya asked Juniper to open the box and put it on now.
Juniper nodded. Fine, she'd wear it. Once she left the hospital room, she'd put the watch away.
But when she opened the box, she saw a diamond-studded watch that was actually quite nice.
She put on the watch. "Freya, you really have good taste. It's beautiful."
Both watches were bought by Freya at great expense from others.
"I'm glad you like it," Freya sighed. "All this time, while I've been sick in the hospital, you've been the ones caring about me. Buying you gifts makes me happy too."
Juniper smiled. "Freya, what are you saying? You're our family. Of course we care about you."
Freya's smile deepened. "Juniper, with my health, I probably don't have much time left. After a while, when I'm feeling a bit better, I plan to call a lawyer. I want to give you the shares I have."
Hearing this, a flash of delight crossed Juniper's eyes.
But she immediately controlled her emotions, showing a grateful expression, her voice becoming even gentler. "Freya, you can't talk like that. You'll live to be a hundred. Right now, what we hope for most is that you'll be healthy and live long. The shares aren't urgent. Once you're better, you can arrange things however you want."
Juniper could already see victory waving at her.
Gino spoke up to coax her. "Grandma, you'll definitely live to be a hundred."
Freya smiled. "Alright, live to be a hundred."
After Juniper and her son Gino left the hospital room, Freya immediately dropped the kind and gentle expression from her face.
Freya opened the drawer and took out another phone to eavesdrop on Juniper and Gino.
Juniper and Gino got into the car.
Gino touched his watch, pursed his lips, and complained, "Mom, I'm not coming to the hospital next week. Having to come once every week is such a pain. I can't even go dancing with my friends."
At that moment, in the hospital room, Freya was holding her phone and listening.
When she heard Gino say this, her whole heart went cold.
Gino found visiting her troublesome.
Not long ago, she had thought Gino had good character.
On the other end of the listening device, Juniper heard Gino's complaint and said helplessly, "If you really don't want to come every week, we'll change it to once a month. I'll talk to your father tonight and say you're busy with schoolwork."
Gino laughed. "Mom, you're the best."
Gino's complaints and Juniper's response were like a sharp knife stabbing into Freya's heart.
Freya's hand gripping the phone trembled slightly.
Freya had treated Gino like her own grandson and spoiled him!
Juniper's car drove for about half an hour before arriving home.
When Juniper and Gino got home, they each went to do their own things.
Juniper returned to the bedroom and immediately called Aurelia.
As soon as the call connected.
Juniper said in a triumphant tone, "Mom, that old woman brought up finding a lawyer to give us the remaining shares today!"
Hearing Juniper's words, Aurelia perked up.
"She really said that?"
Aurelia was genuinely happy for Juniper.
"Yes, really. Her health is getting worse and worse. She probably won't last much longer. Once we get the shares, everything else will be easy."
Hearing this, Aurelia said with satisfaction, "During this time, you need to pay attention to her mood. Don't let her become dissatisfied in any way. Once she hands over the shares, we'll be fine."
Juniper was really grateful to Aurelia. If Aurelia hadn't helped her plan, Juniper wouldn't have been able to become the lady of the Nightingale Group.
"Mom, you're amazing!"
At that moment, on the other end of the listening device, Freya not only heard what Juniper said on the phone but also recorded it all.
Freya absolutely would not let Juniper get her wish!
On the way to a business party with Stefan, Seraphina received a call from Jacob.
"Seraphina, Mrs. Nightingale came to the company looking for you again. I told her you weren't at the company, and she's already left."
"Okay, Mr. Grant, thank you."
After hanging up, Seraphina's heart sank a little. It seemed Freya really had something urgent to see Elizabeth about, otherwise she wouldn't have come to the company twice.
Stefan turned to look at Seraphina. "What's wrong?"
Stefan and Seraphina were already preparing to get married, so there was no need to hide things that weren't secrets.
Seraphina thought about it and decided to tell Stefan about the Nightingale family. "You know about the Nightingale Group in Border Ridge City, right?"
Stefan said, "I do."
"The current head of the Nightingale Group, Herschel, is my mom's first cousin. Back then, my mom gave up her shares in the Nightingale Group. She left all the shares to Mrs. Nightingale, who is my mom's biological mother."
Stefan was very surprised. Few people could let go of shares that were within their grasp.
"I know you're surprised. We cut ties with the Nightingale family over ten years ago. Yesterday, Mrs. Nightingale suddenly came to the company looking for my mom, and today she came again."
Stefan thought for a moment. "You can mention it to your mother."
Seraphina nodded. "I know. I'll bring it up when I get home tonight."
"Is there something on your face?" She noticed he kept staring at her, and her face unconsciously turned red.
Stefan reached out and pinched Seraphina's face, frowning. "Seraphina, have you been working too hard lately? Your face looks a bit thinner."
Stefan's concerned words were the complete opposite of what made Seraphina happy.
"Really? Has my face really gotten thinner?"
Seraphina was as excited as if she'd been given an energy boost. She went to dig through her bag for a mirror.
When she looked in the mirror this morning, she clearly hadn't lost weight!
After looking in the mirror, checking the left side and the right side, she fell silent.
She hadn't lost weight. It was because she'd put on makeup today.
