Chapter 397 The Truth Behind
Elizabeth and Timothy only knew about the conversation between Sloane and Jane in the office.
But they had no idea who Jane would send to approach Stefan.
They didn't need to find out either.
They'd know when the time came anyway.
Elizabeth had already picked out the photos. She put down her phone and reached out her hand. Timothy cooperatively bent his back.
"Mr. Robinson."
"What's up?"
Timothy lifted Elizabeth, who had been lying on his lap, into his arms.
Elizabeth rested her head against Timothy's heartbeat. "After Seraphina gets married, let's have Seraphina take care of Brandon. Just you and me, the two of us, we'll travel around."
Timothy's thin lips curved up. He was obviously very happy about Elizabeth's decision. He nodded, "Okay, that's a great idea."
"Close your eyes, I want to kiss you." Elizabeth said softly, her usually cool voice carrying a rare tenderness.
Timothy chuckled quietly.
Just as Elizabeth was about to change her mind, he closed his eyes.
A cherished, burning warmth traveled from his forehead downward.
At this moment, Seraphina, busy working at the company, had no idea that Elizabeth and Timothy were planning to have her take Brandon after her marriage.
Seraphina was reviewing profiles of people who would be attending the business banquet the day after tomorrow.
At four in the afternoon, Seraphina's phone rang. She stopped her work and looked at the caller ID.
It was Stefan calling.
Seraphina answered, "Stefan."
Stefan said, "Seraphina, I can't have dinner with you tonight. My mom fell at Global Mall. I'm on my way to the hospital now."
Seraphina immediately stopped flipping through the documents. She quickly said, "I'll come over soon. Which hospital? Once you get there, send me the room number."
"Okay, don't rush too much. Be safe on the road."
They hung up without dragging out the conversation.
Seraphina quickly arranged her work and hurried out of the company to the hospital.
Kennedy had gone to the mall that afternoon to pick out a piece of jewelry for Seraphina.
She wanted to use this gift to make up for the unpleasantness of their last meeting.
Although she had already apologized when discussing the wedding, she couldn't just leave it at words.
She was giving a gift to try to get closer to Seraphina.
She just hadn't expected to fall on the escalator.
Fortunately, Grace had saved her.
"Mom, how are you?" Stefan walked quickly into the hospital room. Seeing Kennedy, he quickly looked her over.
Kennedy raised her hand with a smile on her face. "Just a scraped palm. Grace is the one who's more seriously injured. Stefan, this girl is Grace Martinez. She's the one who saved me."
Only then did Stefan breathe a sigh of relief. Good thing it was just a scraped hand. His gaze turned to Grace on the hospital bed.
Grace looked to be in her early twenties, petite and delicate in appearance.
Her left hand was in a cast, her complexion a bit pale, but her spirits seemed okay.
"Ms. Martinez, thank you for saving my mother."
"I just instinctively grabbed her. You're welcome." Grace's voice carried a faint weakness.
Grace had been quickly sizing up Stefan from the moment he entered the room.
Jane hadn't been wrong. Stefan really did look like a privileged son of heaven, a flower on a high peak.
Kennedy looked at Grace with gratitude. Grace looked so sweet and well-behaved, it was hard to dislike her. She made a good impression at first sight.
If Grace hadn't stepped in to save her, she would have been the one seriously injured.
Stefan didn't see Damon around. "Mom, where's Dad?"
"He went to buy us some food."
Stefan nodded. He took out his phone and sent Seraphina a message with the room number.
Although Kennedy wasn't seriously hurt, he knew Seraphina would definitely come to check on her.
Before long, Seraphina pushed open the hospital room door and walked in.
She went straight to Kennedy and said softly, "Ms. Hope, are you alright?"
Kennedy saw Seraphina had come and showed a warm smile. "I'm fine, just scraped my palm a bit. Thanks to Grace for saving me."
Seraphina wasn't quite sure who this Grace person Kennedy was talking about was.
Seeing this, Kennedy said, "Come, Seraphina, let me introduce you. This is Grace Martinez, the girl who just saved me. Grace, this is my son Stefan's future wife."
Grace gave Seraphina a weak smile.
Seraphina was really pretty. Grace was confident she could complete Jane's task.
Seraphina looked at Grace lying on the hospital bed and sincerely thanked her, "Ms. Martinez, thank you for stepping in to save her."
Freya had been staying in the hospital for some time now.
She now had to do dialysis three times a week, each session taking about three to four hours.
Her health was getting worse and worse.
When she woke up today, she felt very weak. She had the caregiver push her wheelchair and take her to the garden outside.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of low conversation nearby.
Freya looked in the direction of the sound and saw a mother and daughter not far away—it was Aurelia and Juniper.
They were standing in a corner of the garden, deliberately keeping their voices very low.
Because of the rock garden, Aurelia and Juniper hadn't noticed Freya.
Juniper's voice sounded impatient. "Mom, I really don't want to come to the hospital several times every week. She needs dialysis three times a week now. It's so annoying. I don't even have time to go out for tea and chat with everyone."
Aurelia gently patted Juniper's shoulder, her tone carrying a warning. "Juniper, don't say things like that anymore. She still has shares she hasn't distributed yet. You all need to act more devoted. If she's happy, she'll give you the shares."
Juniper frowned and said impatiently, "Mom, you keep saying this stuff. I'm sick of hearing it. Who else would she give the remaining shares to besides us? We're all she has left."
Freya still had ten percent of the Nightingale Group shares.
Aurelia was almost furious and scolded coldly, "She's your husband's aunt. You're not coming to the hospital to see her because you want to go to parties. If your husband finds out, will he be happy?"
Freya, behind the rock garden, heard Aurelia and Juniper's conversation. Her face instantly turned cold, filled with anger.
Freya's hands trembled slightly, a flash of disappointment and sadness in her eyes.
Freya had always thought Juniper's care for her came from the heart. She never imagined it was only for the shares she held.
A look of sadness appeared on Freya's aged face.
She hadn't expected the truth behind it all to be so cold.
Freya gripped the armrests of her wheelchair tightly, as if this was the only way to suppress the anger and pain in her heart.
And what about Herschel and Gino? Were they nice to her also just for her shares?
Freya closed her eyes, trying hard to control herself and not let tears fall.
If she had known, she shouldn't have given them shares earlier!
Freya was so full of regret!
When Seraphina encountered Freya wiping away tears in the hospital corridor, she was a bit surprised, but Seraphina passed by Freya as if she didn't know her.
Juniper and Aurelia entered the hospital room.
"Freya, my mother came to see you," Juniper walked to the bedside with a smile. "Gino wanted to come today too, but I didn't let him take time off."
Aurelia asked Freya with a smile, "Freya, how are you feeling today?"
"Not bad, feeling a bit better today." Freya nodded lightly, her voice somewhat tired. Seeing Juniper and Aurelia, she barely controlled her anger.
Freya couldn't let them know now that she had heard their conversation.
Freya really had no mood to deal with this mother-daughter pair. She made an excuse that she was tired and wanted to sleep, asking them to leave.
