Chapter 325 She Is Very Tired
Seraphina, sent to the kitchen by Zara, ate her meal with just a bowl of plain white rice.
She only had plain rice, no dishes, no delicious braised fish.
She really thought the fish smelled so good.
Simple-minded Will stood in front of Seraphina. He smiled foolishly, mumbling words that no one could understand.
Seraphina looked up at Will, then carried her bowl to eat by the chicken coop outside the kitchen, a bit scared.
With the chickens around, she wasn't afraid of Will.
Will followed her again.
Will reached out and knocked the rice out of Seraphina's hands. He clapped happily and laughed.
Her bowl and rice both fell to the ground.
Seeing her rice knocked over, Seraphina bit her lip and angrily pushed Will. Will fell and sat on the ground, starting to cry.
Zara walked out of the main room. Seeing Will sitting on the ground crying while Seraphina was picking up the white rice from the ground.
Zara quickly walked over and, without a word, raised her hand and hit Seraphina's face and head several times.
Seraphina curled up, crouching on the ground with her arms covering her head.
Will's father Soren heard Will crying. He put down his wine glass and walked out of the main room, annoyed. If there wasn't no one at home right now, he wouldn't have brought Will along for drinks.
Seeing Zara hitting Seraphina, Soren said nothing. He just picked up Will and yelled, "What are you crying about?"
Soren didn't expect foolish Will to answer him. He just carried Will back to the main room.
Zara remembered that Seraphina's life was worth a lot of money, so she only hit her a few times.
"Pick up the rice from the ground and eat it. Don't waste it," Zara said coldly.
Seraphina rubbed her head. She silently picked up the rice from the ground and carefully put it back in her bowl.
Zara watched her, snorted coldly, then turned and went back inside.
Around ten at night, Milan and his drinking buddies had drunk enough, and people gradually left.
After they all left, Seraphina was called to help clear the bowls from the table and wash them.
After washing the dishes, she still had to clean the main room.
From the master bedroom came the sound of Milan's drunken snoring.
Seraphina was kept busy by Zara's orders until very late before finally finishing all the housework.
She dragged her tired body back to her small room, her tiny body collapsing exhausted on that simple mat.
She was so tired.
Zara walked into the storage room yawning. She reached out and turned on the dim yellow light, took a rope and tied Seraphina's ankle again.
After tying it, Zara left the storage room and turned off the light. The room instantly fell into darkness.
Seraphina curled up in her bedding, sucking on her finger like a baby, as if this made her feel safe.
Early in the morning, when the roosters crowed in the village.
Mason dragged himself out with his backpack, grumbling complaints, slowly walking out the door.
Seraphina was released by Zara and started her day's laundry work by the well.
In Luca's yard, Nolan and Ryder had already gotten up early and eaten a simple breakfast.
Their task today was to ask Luca to show them the village's mountain land.
Luca led Nolan and Ryder out of the yard, following the village path toward the mountain land outside the village.
Nolan said with a smile, "I heard the village kids have to walk to other villages for school?"
Luca nodded and sighed, "Yes, we don't have a school in our village. The children have to walk an hour every day to go to school in the neighboring village. The conditions are really tough."
Nolan asked thoughtfully, "How many children are there in the village? Are there any plans to build a school?"
Luca shook his head helplessly, "We've thought about building an elementary school for lower grades, but the village's economic conditions are limited. Many things are beyond our means, and we only have about thirty kids in total in our village."
Nolan smiled, "To be honest, we know a boss who's always doing charity work. He might be willing to fund the construction of an elementary school to make it easier for the village children to go to school."
Hearing this, Luca's eyes lit up, "If that could really happen, that would be wonderful! The village children wouldn't have to walk so far to school every day, and they'd have a better learning environment."
What Nolan said about building an elementary school was true. Timothy had told them that while looking for people in the countryside, they could also do things to help children when appropriate.
Nolan said, "Tomorrow is Saturday. We plan to buy some gifts for the village children. We'll ask all the children to come and receive them. Luca, would that be convenient?"
Hearing Nolan's words, Luca's face broke into a smile, "You two are so kind-hearted. The children will be very happy. I'll notify the village parents tomorrow to bring their children over."
Nolan nodded, "Then it's settled."
Luca agreed, and they continued to look at the mountain land.
After returning to the village at noon, Luca happily went to notify the villagers, telling them to bring their children at nine o'clock tomorrow morning to receive gifts.
"Milan, are you home?"
"Yeah, Luca, what's up?" Milan walked out of the main room stretching.
Luca walked into the yard with a smile on his face, "Tomorrow, send the kids to my place to get gifts. Two bosses from Harmony City want to give gifts to the children."
Milan was stunned for a moment and muttered, "Rich people are so stupid." He said loudly, "Luca, I'll send Mason over tomorrow."
Luca nodded. He still had to notify the next household. As he was about to leave the yard, he suddenly remembered that Milan and Zara had picked up a little girl.
He turned around and called out, "Milan, let that girl come get a gift too."
Milan didn't respond to Luca about this. After Luca said this, he went to notify the next household.
Zara was eating sunflower seeds. She looked at Milan walking back to the main room, "Milan, should we really let Echo go get gifts tomorrow?"
Milan scratched his belly and glared at her, "Are you stupid? Of course we can't let her go. We can't let her leave the house."
Zara brought up another matter, "We have money now. Should we send Mason to study in town? The conditions in the village aren't good."
Milan also wanted to enjoy life in town, but he had to consider Seraphina.
Seeing Milan's thoughtful expression, Zara thought there was hope.
She quickly said, "Once we get to town, we'll just keep Echo locked at home. No one will know. When she's almost eighteen, we'll come back to the village and wait for that man. Honey, do we really want to wait in this village for that man for thirteen years?"
Hearing Zara's words, Milan's resolve wavered a bit.
Milan really didn't want to be stuck in this poor village for over ten years.
Thinking about the better living conditions in town, he hesitated for a while, then finally nodded, "I'll go to town tomorrow to look at houses first. We'll buy a house first!"
Zara was so happy. Their family could finally leave this poor place!
"I'll go to town with you tomorrow!"
"No, you stay home and watch Echo."
Milan's word was final, and his fists were hard. Although Zara was unhappy that she couldn't personally go see the houses, she didn't want to get beaten, so she had no objections.
