Chapter 308 Unable to Sleep All Night
In the evening.
Robbie texted Elizabeth first to ask if she had time.
He waited until Elizabeth replied that she was free before calling to tell her about Hugo. "This time, with Hugo instigating Elmer to set the fire, Hugo insists he was just getting revenge for a college friend - the person in charge of Luminary Agency. This won't implicate Maddox."
Elizabeth said coldly, "After all, Willow is Maddox's wife, and Willow and Hugo are very close as siblings. Hugo probably won't drag Maddox down with him."
Robbie nodded, feeling it was a shame that they couldn't arrest the real mastermind Maddox due to lack of evidence. He added, "I heard Hugo's grandmother went to Maddox's house to make a scene."
Elizabeth's words carried a hint of coldness, "That's good. Maddox has too much free time, now he has something to deal with. Plus, those people from the Sherman family probably regret selling their shares to me now."
Robbie looked at the invitation in his hand. "Mrs. Freya Nightingale came to the office this afternoon and brought you an invitation to Mr. Herschel Nightingale and Juniper's wedding."
Hearing this news, Elizabeth's expression remained indifferent. "Prepare a gift from me to send over."
She wasn't in the mood to attend anyone's wedding right now.
Robbie nodded. "Okay."
After hanging up, Elizabeth stood by the window, looking at the lights under the night sky outside, her thoughts entirely focused on Seraphina.
Unable to sleep all night, Elizabeth got up in the morning and drank a cup of instant coffee to wake herself up.
She and Joe took the elevator to the hotel's second floor for breakfast.
When the elevator stopped at the fifth floor, the doors opened.
Elizabeth saw Sarah and Delilah standing outside the elevator.
Sarah hadn't expected to run into Elizabeth and Joe in her hometown.
Sarah pulled Delilah into the elevator and greeted Elizabeth and the others. "Ms. Penrose, hello. Mr. Watson, hello."
Elizabeth nodded at Sarah with a slight smile. "Hello."
All four of them were going to the second floor for breakfast, so Elizabeth directly invited Sarah and her friend to sit at their table.
If it weren't for Sarah, she still wouldn't know that Seraphina was alive.
Therefore, Elizabeth was grateful to Sarah.
Sarah was smart enough not to ask what Elizabeth was doing in a small place like Pineville.
Joe smiled and asked Sarah, "Ms. Palmer, weren't you in Solstice?"
Sarah didn't realize that Joe, this calculating man, was probing her.
Because of running into acquaintances at this time, Joe was slightly more alert.
Sarah smiled and replied, "My grandfather's birthday is coming up, so I came back specially to celebrate with him."
Joe nodded. "I see."
Delilah looked at Elizabeth and Joe with some curiosity. Delilah didn't really know them, so she just quietly ate her breakfast.
After finishing breakfast, the four of them went their separate ways.
Elizabeth had Joe prepare a birthday gift suitable for an elderly person to send to Sarah's grandfather.
Joe understood and agreed.
He went to prepare the gift, and in the afternoon, had someone deliver it to Delilah's room, asking Delilah to pass it on to Sarah.
On the other side, after Sarah and Delilah finished breakfast, they also returned to their hotel room.
Delilah sat on the sofa and asked her friend curiously, "Is that Ms. Penrose the Elizabeth you mentioned? The wife of our company's real boss?"
Sarah nodded. "Yes, that's her."
Delilah's eyes widened in surprise. "She's really beautiful. I wonder what she's doing here?"
"Probably has some business to take care of," Sarah smiled. "The boss's wife is indeed beautiful. I need to go shopping in a bit, then head back to the village. I'll come out tonight to sleep with you and keep you company."
Delilah waved her hand. "Go ahead."
After Sarah left the room, Delilah leaned back on the sofa, lost in thought.
Without realizing it, she suddenly thought of Timothy.
Delilah rubbed her slightly flushed face, telling herself not to let her mind wander.
On Elizabeth's second day in Pineville, Max brought bad news in the afternoon.
"We haven't heard any sounds of children coming from where that man lives," Max reported with a furrowed brow.
Elizabeth's heart tightened, and she paced back and forth anxiously. "Arrange to have him arrested first. Make sure to be careful."
Max nodded. "Understood, I'll arrange it right away."
Joe figured Elizabeth probably wouldn't be able to eat dinner tonight.
He had the hotel chef make some simple porridge for Elizabeth.
Since arranging for Max to make the arrest, Elizabeth had been walking around the room holding her phone, waiting for news.
Every minute and every second was torture for her.
Timothy, far away in Border Ridge City, was also holding his phone waiting for news.
Just then, Elizabeth heard her phone ring and quickly answered it.
"Elizabeth, your cousin is getting married, are you really..."
It was Freya on the other end.
Before Freya could finish speaking, Elizabeth hung up on her without mercy.
Freya looked at the disconnected call in disbelief.
Freya took a deep breath and turned to Maeve with a bitter smile. "Mom, she doesn't want to listen to me at all."
Before Freya could finish speaking, Elizabeth had hung up - it was simply rude.
Maeve sighed inwardly. It would be difficult for Freya and Elizabeth to repair their relationship. "It's okay, Freya, we'll take it slow."
Freya was actually feeling somewhat displeased and dissatisfied.
Right after Elizabeth hung up on Freya, she heard a knock on her room door and went to open it.
Joe walked in carrying a container of porridge. Seeing Elizabeth's anxious state, he tried to persuade her, "Ms. Penrose, why don't you eat something first? Max won't make his move to arrest the person until late tonight at the earliest."
Elizabeth forced a smile. "Thank you, Joe."
The sky gradually darkened, the town's lights came on one by one, and there were few pedestrians on the streets.
Late at night.
Max and his team quietly approached the target residence.
They carefully drew closer, afraid of alerting the person inside and worried about disturbing the surrounding residents.
As time passed second by second, Elizabeth, waiting for news in her hotel room, felt each second become unusually long.
Finally, her phone rang, breaking the silence in the room.
