Chapter 274 Reconciled?
Avalonia is a small country.
Alfonso left his homeland back then to develop his career in Avalonia.
These past few days, whether he called or texted Mabel, she never replied, which filled him with unease.
He planned to fly to Border Ridge City tomorrow to check on her.
In the evening, he left the company and went straight to the hospital.
Alfonso walked into the hospital room where both Maya and Sophia were.
Maya looked at Alfonso with a smile and said gently, "Alfonso's here. Haven't eaten yet, have you? Perfect timing, Sophia made soup."
Maya's body was still very weak.
Sophia ladled a bowl of hot soup and walked over to Alfonso. "Alfonso, have some soup. It's just been made."
Alfonso took the bowl and thanked her.
Maya watched this scene with satisfaction.
She had always hoped Alfonso and Sophia would end up together.
Especially after her accident, it was Sophia who had been running around taking care of her.
Maya sighed. "Alfonso, Sophia told me you haven't been eating properly lately. You need to rest more too."
Alfonso nodded. He put down the soup bowl after a few sips and looked up at Maya. "Mom, I need to go to Border Ridge City tomorrow."
Maya's face instantly fell, her tone carrying a hint of displeasure. "I'm still in the hospital, and you want to go to Border Ridge City again? Didn't you just get back?"
Sophia lowered her eyes, showing a disappointed expression. She quietly stood up, making an excuse about going out to make a call, leaving Maya and Alfonso space to talk.
After Sophia left, Maya looked at Alfonso, her face even more displeased. "Alfonso, what are you trying to do by going to Border Ridge City again?"
Alfonso sighed helplessly. He held Maya's hand, his voice gentle. "Mom, I've told you, I'll never give up on Mabel in this lifetime. Sophia and I can never be together. I don't like her."
"Alfonso, have you forgotten who's been working alongside you all this time? And if it weren't for entertaining clients, Sophia wouldn't have lost the baby."
The warm smile on Alfonso's face instantly disappeared. "Mom, I don't want Mabel to know about this."
He had always been afraid of Mabel finding out.
If she knew, given her personality, she would feel guilty, and they could never be together.
Maya wasn't afraid of Alfonso's cold expression. She said angrily, "Why shouldn't she know? If it weren't for what her parents did, none of this would have happened to you, to Sophia, or to my grandchild!"
"Get out! I think you just want to make me so angry I die. When I fell this time, I should have just died!"
Alfonso quickly tried to calm the very agitated Maya. "Mom, please don't get upset."
Sophia, standing outside the hospital room, heard Maya's scolding and hurried back in with concern.
"Ms. Coleman, don't be angry." Sophia patted Alfonso, signaling him to leave first. "It's all Alfonso's fault for being inconsiderate."
Maya knew she couldn't stop Alfonso from going to find Mabel. Fortunately, she had already made that phone call, hoping Mabel would keep her promise.
Alfonso, who had been kicked out of the room, rubbed his temples.
After Sophia had calmed Maya down, she walked out of the hospital room.
She looked at Alfonso and said in a low voice with a bitter smile, "If you want to go to Border Ridge City, then go. I'll take care of Ms. Coleman. Alfonso, I'm sorry. When Ms. Coleman gets better, I'll leave."
Alfonso wasn't an unreasonable person. "I'm the one who should be sorry. I'm the one who got you involved."
He never expected back then that Jerald and Arabella from the Simpson family would be so underhanded.
Alfonso walked back into the hospital room.
Sophia took out her phone from her pocket, lowered her eyelids, composed a text message, entered a number, and sent it.
[Mabel, do you know why I ended up sleeping with Alfonso back then? Because your parents had someone force us both to drink an aphrodisiac]
At that moment, when Mabel in Solstice saw this message, her phone instantly fell from her hand to the ground.
Mabel bit her palm, covering up what was almost a breakdown scream.
Alfonso arrived in Border Ridge City.
He went straight to Mabel's place but found she wasn't there.
He asked the housekeeper, who also said they didn't know where she had gone.
Alfonso frowned and called Timothy. "Cousin, where's Mabel?"
Timothy, while feeding Elizabeth, said coldly, "Don't call me cousin anymore."
Timothy didn't answer where Mabel was.
Alfonso got in his car, his voice carrying a hint of anxiety. "Mr. Robinson, where's Mabel?"
"Where Mabel is, you figure it out yourself." After saying this, Timothy hung up directly.
Alfonso stared at the disconnected call, his frown deepening.
He pressed his thin lips together, feeling an ominous premonition in his heart.
He immediately used his connections and every available resource to start searching for Mabel's whereabouts.
Meanwhile, after hanging up the phone, Timothy continued feeding Elizabeth.
Mabel, who was also in the hospital room, thanked Timothy.
Elizabeth signaled with her eyes for Timothy to leave, as she had something to discuss with Mabel.
Timothy saw she had eaten enough, carefully wiped the corners of her mouth, then put down the bowl, stood up, and walked out of the hospital room.
Only Elizabeth and Mabel remained in the room.
Elizabeth's eyes were gentle. "Mabel, can you tell me what happened?"
Mabel smiled. "His mother called me, and most importantly, we can never be together."
Elizabeth frowned. "About the arranged marriage, have you really thought it through? You don't have to choose this path."
Mabel lowered her head, her fingers lightly rubbing her phone case, her voice somewhat hoarse. "Yes, Elizabeth, I've decided. I can't let myself get tangled up in this kind of messy relationship anymore."
Mabel wanted to cut ties completely.
Knowing what Jerald and Arabella had done, Mabel couldn't even forgive herself.
Elizabeth nodded, her eyes showing understanding and heartache. "I understand. I just hope you won't let yourself get hurt again."
Mabel looked up, her eyes slightly red but determined. "Thank you, Elizabeth."
Elizabeth smiled and held Mabel's hand. "Remember, you still have us. No matter what happens, we'll be by your side."
Mabel nodded gratefully, feeling a bit of warmth in her heart.
Elizabeth's eyes were cool and elegant as she said gently, "It's just an arranged marriage. For you, it's not a cage. You can leave anytime you want, because you have me and Mr. Robinson behind you."
Mabel knew Elizabeth was stating facts. "I know."
"Elizabeth, it's time for your rest. I'll leave now, or Mr. Robinson will get angry."
Before leaving, Mabel hesitantly asked a question. "Elizabeth, you and Mr. Robinson have made up, right?"
Elizabeth shook her head and smiled. "We won't be together."
This was the understanding between Elizabeth and Timothy.
No matter what happened to either of them, they would take care of each other, but they wouldn't choose to live together.
