Chapter 271 She Is in Pain
After the meeting ended, Jacob left Elizabeth's room with his laptop.
Back in his room, he thought about Elizabeth's eyes that looked like she had been crying.
He searched on his phone for the nearest toy store to the hotel.
Jacob went to the toy store, bought a few toys, and returned to the hotel.
Elizabeth heard a knock on the door and wheeled over to open it.
Jacob handed Elizabeth a bag of items, scratching the back of his head. "Ms. Penrose, stress relief stuff. I'm going now."
He quickly ran back to his own room.
Elizabeth closed the door, opened the bag, and saw a squishy bread toy and a giant Enter key inside.
For the last item, Elizabeth picked it up and looked—it was a stress relief jar, one of those scream jars.
Elizabeth paused for a moment, then smiled. Jacob was actually quite thoughtful.
She picked up the squishy bread and squeezed it, feeling its soft and bouncy texture. Then she placed the giant Enter key on the table and pressed it gently, making a clicking sound.
She picked up the scream jar again, her smile growing wider.
This scream jar was for venting emotions. She pointed the opening toward herself and let out a small yell.
A soundproof scream jar.
"This is actually pretty interesting," Elizabeth said to herself.
She put the toys away neatly. Regardless of anything else, it was Jacob's kind gesture.
She sent Jacob a message: [Mr. Grant, thank you]
Elizabeth glanced at the time. She still had some work to handle. She adjusted her mindset and got back to work mode.
In the next room, Jacob saw Elizabeth's reply and broke into a bright smile.
At 5:30 in the evening.
Timothy arrived on time with dinner.
"You don't need to bring me meals tomorrow," Elizabeth said softly while eating dinner.
After tomorrow's contract signing, she would have dinner with Eric and the others, and the day after tomorrow morning they'd catch a flight back to Border Ridge City.
"Okay, I know."
Timothy cupped the back of Elizabeth's head and leaned down to kiss her.
Her long eyelashes fluttered slightly.
They separated, both breathing heavily.
The next morning, as Jacob was pushing Elizabeth in her wheelchair toward the entrance of the ElizaTimo Group building.
Elizabeth told Jacob to wait. "Mr. Grant, push me to the coffee shop across the street."
The two of them entered the coffee shop. Elizabeth ordered three coffees, and Jacob went to queue up to pay.
She waited by a window seat and accidentally overheard some gossip.
"I heard an assistant manager in the testing department offended the boss's wife and got fired after work yesterday."
"Who's the boss's wife?"
"I heard it's Sarah from the testing department."
"Really?"
"Really, someone saw her having intimate contact with the BOSS."
The two female colleagues who had been whispering walked out of the coffee shop with their coffees.
Elizabeth heard the name 'Sarah' and raised her eyebrows in confusion.
She didn't think much of it, assuming they were talking about Dennis as the boss, not connecting it to Timothy at all.
As Elizabeth turned her wheelchair to change direction, she accidentally bumped into someone.
Sarah was holding a cup of hot coffee, and some of it splashed out onto the back of Sarah's hand.
Raina looked at Elizabeth and frowned, scolding, "What's wrong with you? Pay attention!"
"I'm sorry." Elizabeth quickly apologized. She looked up at Sarah. "Ms. Palmer, is your hand okay?"
Sarah's hand was slightly burned. Seeing it was the client Max had brought before, she said, "It's fine, not serious."
But Raina wouldn't let it go. "What do you mean not serious? That's hot coffee. You're just too nice."
Jacob saw something was happening with Elizabeth and quickly walked over.
Sarah frowned. She had no idea why Raina was being so friendly to her today. Sarah quickly said to Raina, "Forget it, it's really not a big deal. Let's go, we'll be late for work."
Sarah nodded at Elizabeth and left first. Raina had no choice but to follow her out.
Jacob came over and asked Elizabeth, "Ms. Penrose, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Elizabeth smiled lightly.
At that moment, Raina walked out of the coffee shop smiling. "Sarah, I was just worried about you."
Sarah smiled politely. "Okay, thank you."
Raina brought up another matter. "I really didn't expect the big BOSS to care about you so much that he fired Emilio because of you."
They had also heard the conversation between those two female colleagues earlier.
Sarah smiled awkwardly. "Emilio being fired really has nothing to do with me."
Raina laughed. "Sarah, you don't need to hide it. We all know now."
Sarah sighed, feeling somewhat helpless. This matter really had nothing to do with her, but clearly everyone had misunderstood.
However, thinking about Emilio, who had always caused her trouble, being fired, Sarah was actually quite happy inside.
On the other side, Elizabeth and Jacob left the coffee shop and went directly to the ElizaTimo Group.
The elevator went up and didn't stop until it reached Dennis's office floor.
Jacob pushed Elizabeth into the office and then waited outside.
Elizabeth handed the three coffees she had just bought to Dennis and the others.
Dennis and Eric showed concern about Elizabeth's knee injury.
"Ms. Penrose, how's your knee? Try to rest as much as possible," Dennis asked with concern.
Elizabeth nodded. "Thank you for your concern."
They sat down together and began discussing the contract details.
Elizabeth and Eric carefully reviewed each clause and made some suggestions for modifications.
After completing the signing, they discussed other possible future cooperation matters.
They talked until noon.
Dennis picked up the coffee on the table and smiled. "Would you like to try the ElizaTimo Group's lunch?"
Elizabeth smiled and nodded in agreement. "Of course."
Eric also agreed, saying in a low voice, "Sure, I heard your cafeteria is pretty good."
At noon, the three of them went to the ElizaTimo Group cafeteria together.
The cafeteria was simply and neatly arranged, with the aroma of food filling the air.
Jacob went to get dishes Elizabeth liked for her.
Elizabeth tasted a bite and nodded. "The food here is really good, tastes great."
Dennis nodded with a smile. "We hope our employees can eat good food when they're not working."
After lunch, Elizabeth pushed her wheelchair to the women's restroom by herself.
Unexpectedly, while she was taking care of business in the restroom, she heard the sound of a suppressed argument outside.
She came out after using the toilet and saw three women arguing.
"Who are you talking about! Your mouth is so foul!" Raina cursed angrily.
"I'm talking about you. Knowing that the boss's wife is Sarah, you're rushing to please her. Don't you see if she even cares about you?" Skylar, a female colleague from the same testing department, mocked.
Unable to stand being insulted like this, the proud Raina raised her hand and slapped Skylar. "What are you talking about!"
Skylar wasn't easy to mess with either. She raised her hand and slapped Raina back.
Sarah suppressed her anger and urged them not to fight. "This is the company. Do you want to embarrass yourselves!"
Elizabeth pushed her wheelchair over as if nothing was happening, preparing to wash her hands and then get away from this drama.
Sarah also noticed Elizabeth's presence and felt a bit embarrassed.
However, Raina, who had been slapped by Skylar, could no longer control her temper. She raised her foot to kick Skylar.
Skylar dodged, but ended up bumping into Sarah, and Elizabeth happened to be pushing her wheelchair past behind Sarah.
The accident happened in an instant.
Sarah was suddenly bumped by Skylar and stumbled backward, then unfortunately knocked into Elizabeth's wheelchair.
The wheelchair tipped over.
Elizabeth was pinned to the ground by the wheelchair and Sarah.
"Elizabeth!" Raina and Skylar quickly helped Sarah up first.
Elizabeth was still pinned under the wheelchair.
Sarah's hand was probably fractured, and her waist also hurt badly. Her face turned pale with pain, and cold sweat broke out.
Raina and the others first helped Sarah lie down.
Skylar then moved the wheelchair away. Looking at Elizabeth lying on the ground moaning in pain, Skylar quickly took out her phone and called for an ambulance.
Elizabeth's consciousness was already fading.
She was in so much pain.
