Chapter 188 Complexion

Chapter 188 Complexion

Imperial City.

When Timothy and Elizabeth arrived, they saw Max looking completely worn out.

Max looked at the two of them as if seeing his saviors.

"Mr. Robinson, I swear, if I ever get married, I'm definitely not having kids."

Timothy's mouth twitched speechlessly.

Elizabeth cleared her throat lightly, feeling this had something to do with her Seraphina.

Max scratched his hair.

Having to rack his brains all night thinking up children's stories and answering endless "why" questions, his whole life felt hopeless.

He stepped aside to let them in.

Seraphina was sitting on the sofa watching cartoons. The moment she saw Elizabeth, her eyes, which had been fixed on the cartoon, instantly filled with tears.

"Mommy!"

She jumped off the sofa and, on her little short legs, charged toward Elizabeth like a cannonball.

Then she was picked up.

Timothy was worried Seraphina would knock Elizabeth over, so he instinctively swooped in and picked her up.

Father and daughter instantly locked eyes.

Seraphina's eyes were still teary. The moment she saw Timothy, she exclaimed with delight, "Jake!"

This scene made Elizabeth feel both bitter and amused.

Timothy curved his lips in a smile and explained, "Seraphina, I'm your daddy. My name is Timothy Robinson."

"Daddy?" Seraphina's little mouth opened wide in surprise. "You're my daddy?"

Seraphina blinked and nodded. "I get it, like the mama duck and baby duck."

They couldn't quite follow Seraphina's train of thought.

"Mama duck and baby duck look the same, and Daddy and Jake look the same too." Seraphina blinked her curious eyes at Timothy.

Perhaps because this face was too familiar, Seraphina warmed up to him quickly.

Seraphina fidgeted with her little fingers, tugging at her clothes, and introduced herself shyly, "Daddy, my name is Seraphina. I'm four years old."

In this moment, Timothy felt grateful that Jake hadn't taken Elizabeth's and Seraphina's lives.

"Let's go home."

Elizabeth had just flown back to Border Ridge City from Imperial City.

She received a call from Calliope asking her to come to The Sherman Mansion tomorrow.

She had already switched to another phone, but hadn't had time to change her number yet.

Vincent and Calliope seemed like decent people to Elizabeth so far, but she didn't really want to have contact with the Sherman family anymore.

"Calliope." Elizabeth didn't continue calling her Mrs. Sherman.

Calliope on the other end paused. She looked at Vincent, feeling that Elizabeth suddenly calling her Calliope meant something must have happened.

Calliope said softly, "Elizabeth, if something's wrong, speak up. We can all discuss it together."

"I'll resign from the chairman position," Elizabeth didn't beat around the bush. She didn't like dragging things out. "Actually, I wasn't Jake's wife. Jake threatened me with my daughter. He took my daughter away from me for five years."

The color drained from Calliope's face instantly.

Vincent noticed Calliope's expression and put down his teacup, walking over to sit beside her.

Calliope smiled bitterly, her lips moving. "I'm sorry."

Sometimes she would rather Jake had been a womanizing bad man.

So there was such a story behind it all.

Jake had threatened Elizabeth with Elizabeth's daughter.

Elizabeth lowered her eyes. She didn't tell Calliope that Jake had already passed away.

"Ms. Penrose, there will be lawyers coming to see you tomorrow. We don't know what it's about either, but if possible, could you come to The Sherman Mansion?" Calliope changed how she addressed her too.

Elizabeth was puzzled. Why would lawyers be looking for her?

She didn't answer Calliope right away, just said, "I'll think about it and get back to you."

Elizabeth hung up.

Elizabeth chose to discuss this with Timothy. "Mr. Robinson, Calliope asked me to go to The Sherman Mansion. She said lawyers will be coming to see me tomorrow."

Timothy's movements were a bit stiff as he held the still-sleeping Seraphina. "I'll go with you."

He was still worried about what Jake had said before he died.

With Timothy going along, Elizabeth nodded. She sent Calliope a message saying she would go tomorrow.

After Calliope hung up, she threw herself into Vincent's arms and started crying.

Calliope was usually cheerful and rarely cried.

She told Vincent what Elizabeth had said.

After listening, Vincent was quiet for a few seconds, then sighed. "Jake should be at peace now."

Calliope immediately stopped crying.

She looked up sharply. "What did you say?"

No matter what, Jake was the child she had carried and given birth to with such difficulty.

Vincent sighed deeply.

"Calliope, these past few years, we've both been mentally prepared."

He gently held Calliope's hand.

Back then, they shouldn't have brought Jake back from abroad to study.

If Jake hadn't returned, he wouldn't have met that child Annie.

It was all fate.

The next day.

Elizabeth and Timothy had breakfast with Seraphina before preparing to leave for The Sherman Mansion.

As they were leaving, Seraphina hugged Elizabeth's leg, looking pitiful as she wanted to go out with them.

"Mommy," she called out, her round eyes looking at Elizabeth. "Take me with you, please."

Elizabeth bent down and picked up Seraphina, looking at Timothy.

Elizabeth and Seraphina both looked at him with bright eyes.

Timothy chuckled softly. "Let's go together."

Elizabeth and Seraphina both smiled.

The Sherman Mansion.

Two lawyers had already arrived.

After a night, Vincent and Calliope looked older.

Calliope's expression soured when she saw Timothy, but when she saw Seraphina in Timothy's arms, she finally understood why Jake would threaten Elizabeth with the child.

Calliope felt guilty toward Seraphina.

Seraphina called out to them sweetly.

Vincent and Calliope smiled at Seraphina.

Eugene served tea to the guests and left the study. Having just seen Elizabeth and Timothy arrive together, his feelings were complicated.

The two lawyers, seeing everyone had arrived, introduced themselves. Then lawyer Griffin said,

"Mr. Sherman is gifting the twenty percent of Sherman Group shares he holds to Ms. Elizabeth Penrose."

"Additionally, there is a trust fund currently worth three billion dollars for Ms. Seraphina Penrose."

Both Timothy's and Elizabeth's expressions darkened.
