Chapter 174 Choice
In the elevator.
Jake chatted gently with Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, it's such a waste that you're not in the entertainment industry with your acting skills."
Elizabeth smiled faintly, "Your acting is even better than mine."
They were complimenting each other.
Jake turned his head to look at Elizabeth with mixed feelings. Even now, he couldn't see any sign of nervousness or fear in her.
"Do you think Timothy can rescue you from me?"
Jake asked casually.
Elizabeth looked up at the ascending elevator, her palms sweating nervously. She was scared to death, but she forced herself to appear calm on the surface.
She replied carelessly, "I don't know if Mr. Robinson can save me, but since my life is already in your hands, please tell me—whose child is Emma carrying?"
Though she asked this, her mind was constantly thinking about how to escape.
When Elizabeth mentioned the child, Jake instantly burst with intense hatred. He turned to look at Jane, who wasn't crying or fussing, "Just two disgraces."
These two were Annie's disgrace. The Robinson family, to protect Annie's reputation, chose to put Tommy and Jane under Timothy's name from the start.
What careful planning!
It both protected Annie's reputation and protected Tommy and Jane from being mocked in the future.
Jake sneered coldly. This was also an insult to him.
Elizabeth was stunned when she heard Jake behind her suddenly curse at Tommy and Jane. She didn't know the specific details.
Jake didn't plan to explain further.
The elevator dinged—they'd reached the fifteenth floor.
Timothy also arrived at the fifteenth floor shortly after.
Armando learned from Cecilia that Elizabeth had been taken hostage to the rooftop. Frowning, he rushed to the rooftop as well.
Beatrix frowned, "Armando, where are you going? Armando!"
Armando had already closed the door and left.
Beatrix pointed at the door, nearly dying of anger, "Mom, he definitely went to the rooftop! I hope Elizabeth dies."
Cecilia also noticed Armando's feelings for Elizabeth. Cecilia shook her head—young people who haven't experienced love sometimes only regret after they've lost it.
On the rooftop.
Elizabeth looked at Timothy sitting in his wheelchair, her red lips trembling slightly, her eyes reddening. Her hand rested on her stomach.
Timothy's eyes were deep as he looked at Elizabeth, his gaze fixed tightly on the knife at her neck.
A helicopter hovered above the rooftop.
Jake smiled, "Timothy, I didn't expect you to survive. You're tough."
Timothy said coldly, "As long as you're alive, of course I can't die."
Emma's eyes widened as she looked back and forth between the two Timothys. Only now did she realize that Jake, who was holding Elizabeth hostage, was a fake.
Emma felt both joy and worry.
After all, Jane was in Jake's hands. Fortunately, Tommy was safe with the nanny.
The helicopter lowered a ladder.
Jake stood below the ladder. He didn't plan to take both Elizabeth and Jane—he only needed one as a hostage.
He looked at Timothy and asked with twisted amusement, "Timothy, I'll give you a choice. Do you want to save this damned child in my hands, or save Elizabeth?"
"Mr. Robinson, save Jane, please! She's so young." Emma, tears in her eyes, tried to rush to Timothy but was stopped by Joe.
"Timothy, save Elizabeth!" Armando, who had just reached the rooftop, said coldly.
Jake raised his eyebrows and leaned close to Elizabeth's ear, "Elizabeth, both your ex and current are here. Let's see who they choose."
Elizabeth scoffed, "You really have twisted taste."
"Don't you want to know who Timothy will choose to save?" Jake smiled, "Timothy, I'm giving you a chance to choose. I promise to let one go. Otherwise, once I'm on that plane, I'll throw the other one into the sea to feed the sharks."
Elizabeth actually trusted Timothy. Timothy would save her—she just didn't know if Jake would keep his word about releasing someone.
As Jake finished speaking.
Timothy stood up from his wheelchair. Joe handed Timothy a crutch. Timothy couldn't have recovered so quickly from surgery—walking would pull at his wound.
"How about you let them go and take me as hostage instead?" Timothy said calmly.
Joe's expression changed, "Mr. Robinson!"
Timothy raised his hand to silence Joe.
Jake assessed Timothy's current physical condition. Being medically trained himself, he could naturally tell that Timothy's use of the crutch wasn't fake.
More than twisted amusement, Jake wanted to kill Timothy.
Jake thought for a moment and smiled, "Throw away the crutch. You can't have any weapons on you. Turn out your pockets and walk over."
Elizabeth looked at Timothy and shook her head.
Timothy smiled at her, threw away the crutch, and walked over.
Jake watched the interaction between Timothy and Elizabeth and snorted coldly, "One of you is about to die, and you can still smile."
Timothy walked closer and closer to Jake and the others.
Jake kept his eyes on Timothy to prevent any tricks. The knife that had been pressed against Elizabeth's neck moved slightly away.
Timothy noticed Jake's movement of slightly moving the knife away.
Timothy walked over and stopped when he was very close, "Let Elizabeth go first, then I'll keep walking."
Jake scoffed, "You think I'm stupid? I can't let Elizabeth go first, but I can give you this damned child back."
Timothy heard firsthand the tone Jake used when calling Elizabeth. Timothy frowned.
Emma ran over, biting her lip, "Jane, give her to me first."
Jake said, "Fine."
Jake didn't hand Jane to Emma but threw her directly at Timothy.
Timothy couldn't let a baby fall to her death in front of him. He caught Jane, and the violent movement pulled at his surgical wound. He frowned.
He handed Jane to Emma and continued walking to save Elizabeth. As long as he got close to Jake, he could rescue her.
Bullets pierced through the air.
Two bullets shot toward Jake from different directions at extreme speed—one toward his head, one toward his back.
Timothy's eyes instantly filled with rage.
Who ordered the shooting!
Jake only noticed the bullet coming from the front. At the last moment, he could have pulled Elizabeth over to use her as a shield against the most lethal bullet.
But at the critical moment, he chose to dodge by tilting his head. This move was actually very dangerous—he was just a hair's breadth away from having his head blown off.
The bullets moved extremely fast. All these thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant.
Jake's left ear was shot through. He smiled—at least his head wasn't blown off. But the bullet in his back wiped the smile off his face.
The sharp knife in his hand had already cut into Elizabeth's neck, and blood was flowing from her neck.
Timothy rushed over with red eyes.
"Don't move! I'll make her head roll right here!" Jake waved to the people on the helicopter.
The people on the helicopter fired randomly at those below.
Jake grabbed the ladder. The ladder rose and flew away, with the people on the helicopter continuing to shoot at the rooftop.
Timothy watched as Elizabeth was about to be taken away. He rushed over to grab the ladder. Armando also rushed over, ignoring the threat of bullets.
"Mr. Robinson, save us!" Emma, in her fear, threw herself at Timothy.
Timothy's fingers were about to grab the ladder.
Emma's lunge knocked him off course. He pushed Emma away forcefully.
Jane flew out of Emma's arms, flying toward the rooftop's wall—falling from there would be like falling from the fifteenth floor. The baby would die horribly.
Elizabeth blinked, "Timothy."
Timothy watched the helicopter fly away with bloodshot eyes.
Seeing Jane flying toward the wall, he pulled her back with a wooden expression.
